Chapter 393 - 345 The Little Thief’s Night Raid on the Duke’s Mansion (Second Update)
"Those two are fighting again. Why are you coming to me instead of finding Mom?" Tong Airui was a bit irritated today. Mainly because her great-uncle had been pestering her wife to play chess every single day. It was her one day off, and she couldn’t even get a chance to talk to her wife."If I go to Mom, she’ll get angry. You go talk to Dad; he might actually listen to you." Xiaoyudian forcibly dragged Tong Airui outside.
"I still have a ton of unfinished work!" Tong Airui really didn’t want to get involved in this mess.
"Hurry up! It’s your wife who caused the trouble. If you don’t deal with it, who will?" Xiaoyudian gave her a slap on the arm. "You talk to Dad, and I’ll call Ai Ni so she can try to talk sense into Great-Uncle."
Tong Airui frowned as she descended the stairs.
"You’re my nemesis! When you’re watching, I lose ten games in a row. When you’re not, I can at least manage to win by a piece or two."
"How old are you now? The kid is letting you win on purpose, and you don’t even realize it? Always pestering Luowa to play chess with you—what young person would want to sit around like that all day?"
"Luowa hasn’t said anything. How is this your business!"
"Let’s all just calm down." Yi Luowa put on a placating smile and helped Teng Tianxiang to his feet. "Grandpa, let me take you for a walk. Sitting around all day isn’t good for your health."
Teng Tianxiang huffed and turned toward Long Che. "I wasn’t losing the argument to you! I was just giving Luowa some face."
"Seriously..."
"Dad, enough already. Don’t let Mom hear about this; you know she’ll just get mad again."
Tong Airui walked over, casting a glance at the chessboard. Once Yi Luowa had guided Teng Tianxiang out the door, she furrowed her brow and said, "It’s not just you getting upset. I’m upset too. Think about it—how exhausting it must be for my wife. When you’re not around, she has to find ways to lose without making it obvious. But when you’re here, she has to win against my grandpa. And not just win—she has to win in a way that doesn’t seem too overwhelming. That’s a hundred times harder than just playing to win."
"The older you get, the harder it is for you to relax!" Long Che snorted coldly.
"Dad, my grandpa may not care about how tired my wife gets, but you should. Don’t make things harder for Luowa. My great-uncle won’t be staying long anyway—just let him enjoy himself while he’s here. If you humor my grandpa a little, Mom will be a lot happier too."
"To hell with your mom—I’ve already fallen out with him ages ago!" Long Che glanced upstairs, his expression softening slightly. "Any news from Haotian recently?"
"That’s what I was dealing with when my sister dragged me down here. Dapeng has been to the base these past few days; the map is real. I’m planning to hand it over to Emperor Haotian soon and let him deal with it."
"Get that map to Emperor Haotian as soon as possible. Then we can round up those infiltrators. Even a tiger naps from time to time—let’s not give them a chance to cause trouble."
"Got it. I’ll contact Emperor Haotian shortly."
"The map came from that little thief who visited your aunt’s house, didn’t it?" Though his son hadn’t mentioned the map’s origin, Long Che had already deduced it.
"...Yes."
Long Che eyed Tong Airui dubiously. "You’re hesitating. Is there something you’re not telling me?"
"No. You said, if needed, she’d lead the team to attack the base. I’m just debating whether or not to let her help Emperor Haotian." Tong Airui gave him half the truth.
"Emperor Haotian’s affairs should be dealt with by Emperor Haotian. We only need to keep a grasp on the broader picture—avoid meddling in extraneous matters."
Tong Airui nodded. "Understood."
"If Xuanxuan isn’t out on a mission right now, have him come back and stay for a couple of days. This house feels incomplete without him."
"I’ll call him and tell him to come back." Tong Airui quickly went upstairs. But if Xuanxuan came back, what would happen to You? Without Xuanxuan around to keep her company, Tong Airui was worried she’d stir up trouble. Ugh... Tong Airui suddenly felt like his life was just too exhausting.
Mi Chenxuan got the call at noon and didn’t arrive home until dinnertime. Tong Airui caught him during a quiet moment to ask if he’d made proper arrangements for You. Mi Chenxuan assured him everything was under control.
But despite his assurances, trouble still arose that very night.
Yi Luowa was in Ni Lu’s room, keeping her company, when the house alarm blared.
Startled, Ni Lu jumped. Yi Luowa quickly hugged her. "Don’t worry; Tong Airui will handle it."
Ordinary thieves would have fled upon hearing the alarm, but this time it kept going off. Yi Luowa furrowed her brow.
A knock sounded at the door, and Yi Luowa warily called, "Who is it?"
"It’s me, your husband. Don’t be scared; everything’s under control," Tong Airui said in a low voice.
"Oh, I’m not scared. Go handle it; I’ll stay here with Mom." Yi Luowa patted Ni Lu’s shoulder.
Ni Lu looked up at Yi Luowa timidly. "I’m not scared. Really, I’m not scared."
"Mom, I know you’re not." Yi Luowa gazed at Ni Lu with a tinge of sadness. Though her condition had improved significantly, there were still moments when traces of it surfaced.
The footsteps outside the door grew distant. Yi Luowa pressed her lips together anxiously, unsure who had broken in. She couldn’t help but worry about Tong Airui and the others’ safety.
Tong Airui quickly descended the stairs and headed straight for the study on the first floor, where Long Che and the others were reviewing the surveillance footage.
"There." You Jia pointed to the bottom right corner of the screen.
Tong Airui approached and leaned in to look. What he saw made his head throb instantly.
That petite figure—he didn’t need to see her face to know who it was.
Mi Chenxuan recognized her too and immediately moved to leave.
"Stop!" Long Che said in a low voice. "The bodyguards will handle it. What are you running out there for?"
"Dad, you should let him go. If he goes, we can avoid unnecessary casualties." Tong Airui was already annoyed as he shifted his gaze to Mi Chenxuan. "Can we go one day without someone in this family causing trouble?"
Mi Chenxuan lowered his head in guilt. "I’ll take care of it as soon as possible."
After Mi Chenxuan left, Long Che turned to his son. "Is that woman You?"
Tong Airui nodded slightly.
Long Che frowned. "Looks like our alarm system is outdated. She managed to bypass two levels before triggering it."
Tong Airui shook his head helplessly. With You’s skills, she could’ve made it to at least the third level.he roof.
With an exasperated sigh, Mi Chenxuan lightly smacked her. "Stop looking!"
"I just wanted a look, and you hit me." You pouted unhappily.
"Didn’t you promise me you’d stay put?" Mi Chenxuan sighed, frustrated. "Can’t you ever make things easier for me?"
"I missed you." You clung to Mi Chenxuan’s arm tightly.
Flustered, Mi Chenxuan hurriedly pried her hand away. "Stop fooling around. Behave yourself when you’re inside. There are a lot of people here, and if they say anything about you, don’t talk back. If they ask questions, look at my expression before you answer. And no matter what, don’t reveal your identity. Got it?"
You huffed but said nothing.
Mi Chenxuan stopped walking. "I’m serious! Did you hear me?"
Seeing that he was getting angry, You quickly nodded, appeasing him.
The two finally entered the living room, where You was immediately taken aback by the sight.
Oh, wow. No fewer than twenty people were seated inside.
Mi Chenxuan scratched his head awkwardly. "I’m sorry for disturbing everyone."
Long Che turned his head toward You. Now, with better lighting, he could finally see her face clearly—and that one look left him stunned.
In fact, the entire room seemed to freeze. Yan Zi, Mi Xiaotian, and Jing Ya all widened their eyes in shock.
"This..." Yan Zi pointed at You, too surprised to speak.
Mi Chenxuan assumed his mother was pissed at him, so he quickly released You’s hand.
You glanced at him, pouting, then clung to his arm even tighter.
Mi Chenxuan tried to pull his arm free, but the more he struggled, the tighter You held on.
Tong Yao narrowed her eyes. She had already recognized this girl—this was the same little rascal who had caused chaos at the Viscount Manor. Clearly, her relationship with Xuanxuan was anything but simple!
"Where’s Ni Lu?" Yan Zi looked around; only Ni Lu and Yi Luowa were absent from the room. She could hardly wait to introduce Ni Lu to this young girl. As for how clingy the girl was with Xuanxuan, Yan Zi didn’t even have the mental bandwidth to process it right now.
Even Tong Airui was momentarily stunned, perplexed by everyone’s reactions. Why was his aunt so eager for Ni Lu to see this girl?
"I’ll go check upstairs." Tong Airui hastily made his way to the upper floor.
After Tong Airui left, Long Che slightly tilted his chin. "Xuanxuan, have her sit down."
Mi Chenxuan nodded and led You to sit beside his mother.
Yan Zi glanced past her son to scrutinize You. "How old are you?"
You looked at Mi Chenxuan expectantly. He had told her to gauge his expression before answering any questions.
"Mom, she’s twenty."
Yan Zi pushed her son aside firmly. "Go sit somewhere else. I have something to discuss with this little girl."
