Chapter 563 - 272: Xu Dejun on the Run (Part 3)

Chapter 563 - 272: Xu Dejun on the Run (Part 3)

This round of probing didn’t manage to take down the middle-aged man, but it did reveal the middle-aged man’s attitude. He was indeed ready to fight desperately, thinking that killing one would be worthwhile, and killing two would be a bonus.

The four pursuers showed hesitation on their faces; none of them wanted to be the first to strike, to take on the middle-aged man.

After a moment of stalemate, the Future Warrior made a gesture, ordering the four of them to act simultaneously to capture the middle-aged man.

The atmosphere turned tense. Just as the few people were about to act, a player dressed as a half-orc pointed to the foot of the mountain and said, "Boss, why is there someone over there."

The few looked in the direction the half-orc pointed and discovered a stranger sitting quietly on a boulder like a small mountain, watching their fight.

The stranger’s presence was concealed. If it weren’t for the half-orc using skills to summon the Beast Soul, seeing the stranger through the Beast Soul, they wouldn’t have noticed someone was watching from the sidelines.

Who is he, how long has he been there, what does he want?

The Future Warrior began to sweat from his forehead, pointing his gun at the stranger, and asked, "Who are you?"

Facing the muzzle, Wu Chang waved his hand and said, "I’m just passing by to watch the excitement, you don’t need to mind me, continue with your matters."

Can this really be ignored?

The Future Warrior and the others left the middle-aged man alone and surrounded Wu Chang.

"I’ll ask you again, who are you. Either speak, leave, or die."

Wu Chang remained unfazed and asked back, "Who do you think I am?"

The Future Warrior directly pulled the trigger and shot at Wu Chang. His attack was like a command, the other three followed quickly, locking onto Wu Chang and releasing each of their lethal skills.

They seemed like police from the White Tower, determined to empty their magazines with one trigger pull. One skill wasn’t enough, after using their skills, they went into a frenzy, continuing to strike, each releasing at least five skills, flattening the boulder before stopping, breathless.

No sooner had they relaxed when they found that the stranger had appeared behind them again.

Wu Chang sighed and said, "What’s the point, you guys are too impatient."

As soon as Wu Chang finished speaking, he saw the tip of a dagger extending from his chest, the Jungle Assassin had somehow managed to sneak behind him and launched an attack.

As an ambusher, the Assassin’s eyes were blood-red, mumbling, "Kill you, kill you..."

The Assassin pulled out the dagger, about to make two more holes in Wu Chang, but the half-orc had already transformed into a meteor from the sky, crashing Wu Chang and the Assassin under his body.

The half-orc, combined with the Beast Soul, had transformed into a five-meter-tall Minotaur, wielding a battle axe, frantically pounding the ground as if he could see through Wu Chang’s red underwear with x-ray vision.

The Future Warrior pulled out a charged Energy Cannon and pulled the trigger at Wu Chang and the two subordinates.

The blinding light flashed, followed by thunderous roars filling the valley.

As the sound of explosions faded away, the Future Warrior looked towards the explosion site, finding only two severely injured companions in the crater, the stranger had vanished without a trace.

Seeing this, he breathed a sigh of relief, a look of satisfaction appearing on his face.

But the next moment, the familiar voice appeared in their ears again, this time the voice came from above.

They looked up and found that this time the stranger was standing on a stone pillar very close to them, overlooking them.

Behind the stranger, a mysterious human-sized Talisman shimmered, emitting purple ripples, full of ominousness.

Wu Chang made a gesture to pause, signaling the Future Warrior and others to not continue, then put his hand to his ear, mimicking listening, and said, "Do you hear anything?"

The four didn’t know why, but they were led by Wu Chang and listened attentively.

Thump, thump, thump.

They heard an increasingly rapid, deep thumping sound, familiar yet strange, seemingly their heartbeat.

The fourth pursuer, the weakest who had yet to act, subconsciously said, "Is it my heart beating?"

The Future Warrior and the others looked down at their chests, suddenly finding themselves enveloped in a layer of purple ripples, its frequency matching their heartbeats.

Seeing the ripples, they felt flustered, dizzy, and nauseous, as if they had to break something to feel normal again.

Wu Chang clapped encouragingly and said, "Correct answer, but no rewards."

The clapping interrupted the ripple on the Future Warrior and the others’ bodies, the ripples stopped, and their hearts ceased in tandem.

Without any warning, the four pursuers’ eyes widened and died instantly on the spot.

On the stone pillar, Wu Chang shook his head, stating that since they were members of the Bright Society, they were bound to die.

This scene was as bizarre as a horror movie, leaving the abandoned middle-aged man stunned, unable to even tend to his wound, muttering, "What happened?"

Ever poised to take the middle-aged man away, Wu Chang, dispelling his Social Phobia and Elite Stealth, said:

"I don’t know, too much work pressure leads to sudden death from overwork these days."

Not sure if the four pursuers died suddenly, the middle-aged man was startled seeing Wu Chang appear silently next to him, almost having a heart attack.

The middle-aged man, unsure whether to clutch his heart or his stomach, looked at Wu Chang and said, "Thank you, if it weren’t for your help today, I would’ve died here."

Wu Chang calmly accepted the gratitude, saying, "Knowing you owe me your life is enough, I intervened because you mentioned they were Bright Society members."

"Who are you, and why is the Bright Society chasing you?"

In the Abyssal Game, strength reigns supreme, and this person’s seemingly supernatural skills were unfathomable. Although the middle-aged man was aged, in front of this person, he was just that—aged.

"I am Xu Dejun, a second-level Wanderer of the Management Bureau, being chased by the Bright Society involves internal Bureau matters not convenient for outsiders. I hope you understand."

Wu Chang said, "That’s not acceptable, I’m interested in this topic, don’t forget I just saved your life."

Xu Dejun was a senior with the Management Bureau, being part of the first group to join. Due to his abilities, he remained a second-level Wanderer, but his actual standing within the Bureau far exceeded that of ordinary first-level Wanderers.

In his dealings, both in the Abyss and in reality, he had always faced prominent figures where decorum was expected. Now confronted by someone like Wu Chang, he found himself at a loss.

"Bureau matters, knowing them does you no good, why be so forceful."

Wu Chang grinned, "Whether there’s an advantage isn’t for you to decide. I forgot to mention, I’m called Peace, and officially we’re still at war. Gathering intelligence on opponents is never without advantage."

Xu Dejun fell silent, as Wu Chang was ready to press further, Xu Dejun unexpectedly asked:

"Are you the Peace, who broke the B-level malfunctioning dungeon in the Trial Dungeon, seized the Pillar of the Present World half a month ago, and repelled the Joy clone at the Hymn Company days ago?"

Wu Chang nodded, "That’s me."

Xu Dejun continued his inquiry, "You’ve obtained two Pillars of Reality and the temporary management rights within?"

Wu Chang nodded again, not knowing what Xu Dejun intended.

Xu Dejun exhaled heavily, seemingly rejoicing, thinking it’s great that it’s Peace, that they were saved.

"Lord Peace, I have a request for your help. You’re the only one who can complete this task, I urge you to agree."

Wu Chang: ?
