Back to the 70s: My Childhood Sweetheart Spoils Me Rotten

Chapter 516: The Principal’s Proposal

Chapter 516: The Principal’s Proposal

Gong Ruini and the others had no idea they had become the talk of the town; they were anxiously waiting for their exam results.

The so-called nervousness of Gong Ruini and Zhao Xuran was actually about whether they could make a big impression, to let everyone at school know that even though they didn’t enter the specialized class, it wasn’t due to their grades being insufficient, but because they chose not to.

Because there had been some pleasant surprises before, Zhuge Zhi and the others were eagerly awaiting the grading of the exams, and soon enough, the results were out: "All full marks."

It wasn’t the full marks that surprised everyone the most, but rather, "Wasn’t this exam time quite short?"

"Yes, it was short, from the time they started to the time they submitted, fifty minutes." Achieving full marks in fourth grade isn’t unheard of, but it’s more challenging in sixth grade, especially within such a short time.

Full marks were a must, which relieved Zhao Guangran, "Are our results okay?"

"Not bad, not bad." Initially, Zhuge Ming had only agreed to this because of Zhuge Zhi, without expecting such a big surprise.

"Your scores can get you into the specialized class." Regardless of how Teacher Wu and the others felt before, as the principal, Zhuge Ming had to ask.

It was coming; when grading the exams, Teacher Zhao and Teacher Ding already knew things were going south, considering such good results. Didn’t the school have a specialized class? Wouldn’t they want to be a part of it?

As for Zhuge Ming’s suggestion, they also found it quite normal, considering the principal constantly put the school’s interests first.

Being in the specialized class is a must; if their grades couldn’t get them into the specialized class, they might as well buy a piece of tofu and end themselves with it.

"If our grades couldn’t get us into the specialized class, we wouldn’t have a good time at home." Even though the big brother didn’t say what grades they needed for this entrance exam, since Ni Zi said they wanted a remarkable performance, and the big brother hadn’t opposed it, it meant he supported this idea, so they must work even harder.

"Indeed, it’s a must." Gong Ruini used to be more reserved, but after seeing how Teacher Wu could just ignore them, how could she not be angry inside?

"Teacher Zhao, we’ll be counting on you and Guang Ran from now on." Gong Ruini noticed that Teacher Zhao and the others’ faces stiffened after hearing Zhuge Ming’s words, hinting they likely assumed the good students would head to the specialized class.

After all, their grades were sufficient to warrant acceptance by Teacher Wu, but given such an attitude, Gong Ruini was simply unwilling.

Wait, trouble her? Teacher Zhao was stunned, "Um, uh."

While not unmoved, she steadied her emotions, "The specialized class is where the best students in the entire grade gather, and your grades could improve there too."

Zhao Guangran waved it off, "Since they don’t value us, why should we force it?"

"Besides, we’ve always studied at home, never attending school classes, and still, every time, we’re top two in the grade." Zhao Guangran stated they truly didn’t mind whether they had companions to progress with, having just been themselves and continued to work hard before.

Study at home? Teacher Zhao was very surprised, "Do your parents teach you?" Such formidable parents! Even families with college-educated parents don’t always tutor their kids directly.

Parents tutoring? Zhao Guangran smirked, as their dad was the kind who only cared about results, "It’s my brother and uncle who teach us."

"Teacher, honestly, this test paper was really simple. The quizzes my brother gave us were far more difficult." Zhao Guangran used to worry whether he could keep up here, but now he was very confident; the difficulty was very low.

Feeling pleased, Zhao Guangran stated as long as he could tackle the test papers his brother set, passing the school exams would be no problem.

Teacher Zhao and the others doubted Zhao Guangran’s words. In their view, despite Zhao Xuran’s good grades, it wasn’t to such an extent; they figured it was a little boy’s admiration for his brother that made him say this.

Not believing him, occasionally Zhao Guangran’s thoughts came online, noticing Teacher Zhao and others’ untrusting smiles, a bit annoyed—did they take him for a lying child?

Just as Zhao Guangran wanted to explain, Gong Ruini pulled him aside, signaling him not to speak further.

It wasn’t that the teachers didn’t want to believe but, to them, Zhao Xuran seemed too young to coach two great students.

Why wasn’t he allowed to speak? Zhao Guangran felt a bit dissatisfied, as he hadn’t lied.

"Uncle is a primary school teacher, and he ranked first on the college entrance exam in our area," Zhao Xuran wasn’t keen on becoming the center of attention, worried it would bring him a lot of trouble if it got out.

Zhao Xuran felt accomplished enough taking care of Zhao Guangran and Gong Ruini; he never intended or planned to tutor other kids.

It wasn’t that Zhao Xuran was afraid of training his competition; he simply believed there was nothing that would limit him, but he had more pressing issues in Beijing.

In recent days, Zhao Xuran roamed around Beijing, even visiting a recycling center. While he discovered certain things, none were profoundly astonishing; however, with time, they were bound to be valuable after a few years.

Zhao Xuran just thought if he could, he had to make an effort in these times to earn well, or else he’d regret missing these precious years.

Moreover, who knows if there’d be unwelcome guests? Then he had to decide whether to refuse or take on new tasks. Zhao Xuran resolved to put in all sorts of effort for the next half-year, aiming to get into a prestigious university, to see the expressions of those teachers who once looked down upon them—it should be quite amusing.

"Xuran, what’s your plan?" Zhuge Ming noticed Zhao Guangran’s disgruntled expression, sensing something was up; but since the kids weren’t forthcoming, he could ask Zhuge Zhi later.

"We don’t plan to enter the specialized class; after all, they’ve been classmates for years; no need for us to blend in." Zhao Xuran believed this would leave some people utterly surprised.

Teacher Ding breathed a long sigh of relief upon hearing this response.

Zhuge Ming found no major objections to their response, perhaps related to Teacher Wu’s earlier stance, "Alright, then follow Teacher Zhao back."

"Thank you, Principal."

Teacher Zhao and Teacher Ding had initially worried if Zhuge Ming might enforce his principal authority to send Gong Ruini to the specialized class, but thankfully, he refrained from suggesting so, easing their concerns.
