Chapter 284: You’re truly a good ghost
Chapter 284: You’re truly a good ghost
With his spatial talents activated, Alexander’s figure vanished once more from his original location. The next moment, a black dagger plummeted from the heavens, piercing the air.
"No need to rush," Alexander spoke casually, glancing at Roderick and Ignatius who stood not far from him. "How about we wait for them to finish their fight? Don’t worry, it’ll be quick."
Indeed, it was quick—not just on Emperor Kui’s end, but also with Blizzard.
Six Ghost Imperials were laying siege to Blizzard, and they were noticeably cautious. Faced with a female Emperor, even those who hadn’t heard of Blizzard’s famed reputation dare not take her lightly.
Besides, Blizzard’s fame considerably eclipsed that of Emperor Kui; her mere name was sufficient to instill caution.
From the onset, the six had resolved merely to entangle Blizzard, to ensnare her in a web of combat. However, their efforts were manifestly futile.
Unfazed by the formidable talents of the six Ghost Imperials, Blizzard calmly reached into her bosom and retrieved a straw doll no larger than her palm.
She smiled at her assailants and challenged, "If I call out, who among you dares to respond?"
"Do not engage her! Our sole objective is to tie her down. She possesses a horrifying curse talent; do not communicate with her under any circumstance," commanded a male ghost who was clearly the leader of the group.
However, no sooner had the words left his mouth than his eyes were irresistibly drawn to Blizzard.
She was stunning—her nose elegantly upturned, eyes brimming with gentleness, lips sensuous, and between rows of immaculate teeth, a hint of her soft, pink tongue was visible.
That smile was breathtaking, making the hues of the battlefield seem dull in comparison.
The smile was so bewitching that it caused the male ghost, who had just issued a stern warning against any form of engagement with her, to contradict himself by impulsively declaring, "I agree! Whatever you say, I agree!"
But as the words left his lips, his eyes regained their clarity. The beauty before him remained, yet a bone-chilling cold enveloped him.
"Use the body as a shield!" Another Ghost Imperial nearby, noticing his change, unhesitatingly activated his talents. His entire form morphed into a ghostly energy barrier that encased the male ghost like a wall.
However, all efforts proved futile.
With his declaration of agreement, ashen streams of energy began to emanate around the male ghost. Simultaneously, similar ashen streams circled Blizzard’s straw doll.
As the energy flowed, everyone was horrified to see the male ghost’s skin lose its color, then its very essence, gradually turning into a drab, grayish hue.Intricate patterns began to form on his grayed skin, mimicking the straw doll.
"What’s happening?" The male ghost cried out in terror, trying desperately to channel his Ghost Energy, but to no avail. Bit by bit, he lost all sensation, ultimately transforming into an enormous straw man.
In contrast, the straw doll in Blizzard’s hand turned into brown dust. With a flick of her fingers, the towering straw man barrier down to a miniature version, penetrating the protective shield and landing softly in Blizzard’s palm.
Astonishingly, the features on the miniature straw man bore an 80% resemblance to the male ghost.
The barrier, now pointless, quickly retracted, restoring the original Ghost Imperial. Even more horrifying was the discovery that upon reverting to his original form, the Barrier Ghost Imperial’s arm had also turned into a straw-like material, devoid of sensation.
But what terrified them most was Blizzard casually tossing the miniature straw man onto the ground, and then, with a smile, pulling yet another straw doll from her bosom. She looked around at the group and repeated, "If I call out, who among you dares to respond?"
Indeed, she was Blizzard, the female Emperor. And she was a force to be reckoned with.
The method of the curse was too eerie and horrifying, sapping the will to fight.
"We can’t continue like this!" Roderick exclaimed with a grave expression. If this kept up, they’d soon have to face both Blizzard and Emperor Kui once their respective battles concluded.
Alexander felt the same urgency. After all, there were still Brilliant and another Imperial who had plunged into the army formation.
The duo might not be able to take on a million by themselves, but with their special talents, they were certainly capable of breaking the army’s formation. Every second’s delay meant the slaughter of hundreds.
If it were only Roderick, Alexander would have charged in long ago. With the power of the forbidden force and his own talents, killing a Ghost Imperial would not be challenging for him.
No matter how powerful or insidious the enemy’s talents were, the forbidden force could fully suppress them.
The issue was that the enemy had not just Roderick, but also Ignatius, another Ghost Imperial possessing spatial talents. That complicated matters.
While Alexander could kill Roderick, he couldn’t kill Ignatius. If Ignatius discovered that he possessed the forbidden force, he would be able to both attack and defend using his spatial abilities.
Even though they both had spatial talents, Alexander couldn’t possibly match Ignatius in speed, even with the power of ghost food on his side.
If Ignatius were to escape and lead Brilliant to attack the army formation, that would spell real trouble.
Time had to be bought—either wait for Kui and Blizzard to be free or find a way to get close to Ignatius and kill him before he realized the presence of the forbidden force.
With this in mind, a smile crept across Alexander’s face. "No rush, let’s take a break, shall we?" he suggested.
"Stalling for time?" Roderick snorted coldly and shouted to the side, "Ignatius, you’re up!"
"Understood!" Ignatius nodded, his figure disappearing in a flash. The next moment, he appeared right in front of Alexander.
Before Alexander could react, Ignatius’s hand landed on his shoulder, "Kid, did you think you’re the only one with spatial powers? Come with me."
As he spoke, Ignatius’s Ghost Energy surged wildly towards Alexander, clearly intending to subdue him on the spot.
And Alexander?
He looked at Ignatius, who was within arm’s reach, then at the hand on his shoulder. Excitedly, he gripped Ignatius’s hand tightly, "What a good ghost you are! You’re really attending to my urgent needs and delivering yourself to me so punctually! You’re truly, truly a good ghost!"
Were it not for the battlefield that lay before them, were it not for the fierce combat in which they were engaged, where every moment countless ghosts met a grim end—
If not for the constant agony of death and war cries echoing in their ears, the scene before them might have resembled a long-awaited reunion between old friends.
Gripped warmly by Alexander’s hands, Ignatius was befuddled. His face conveyed utter confusion as he muttered, "What are you blabbering about? Are you sick or something?"
Though he said this, the Ghost Energy within Ignatius started to surge, clearly preparing to activate his spatial powers and whisk Alexander away.
Subconsciously, Ignatius cast a sidelong glance at the two individuals beside him. On Emperor Kui’s end, only two splits remained, desperately holding their ground.
The situation around Blizzard was even more unsettling.
All five Ghost Imperials who had been with her remained—none missing—but what sent shivers down one’s spine was that not a single one of them was whole.
Arms, legs, various body parts had turned into straw to varying degrees. The most unfortunate among them had half his body transformed into a scarecrow, barely able to stand, sustained only by his Ghost Energy.
It appeared as though Blizzard was toying with them, and no one dared to flee; the half-scarecrow had suffered his fate precisely because he had tried to escape.
Returning his gaze to Alexander, Ignatius felt an unprecedented surge of excitement. Regardless of whether Alexander was genuinely ill, this was an opportunity of a lifetime.
This was the man Lord K specifically wanted. Capturing him and bringing him back would be an accomplishment of the highest order, requiring no further action on his part.
Yet, in the very next second, he understood why Emperor Kui and Blizzard, despite having the upper hand, were indifferent to the situation here. He also came to realize who was truly afflicted by a grave ailment.
In the blink of an eye, a white mist enveloped Ignatius’ entire form. At first, Ignatius puzzled over what this white fog could be.
But as he activated his own talent ability, intending to transport Alexander off the battlefield through spatial manipulation, the white mist seemed to come alive upon contact with his Ghost Energy.
It surged wildly, as if imbued with life, cascading toward Ignatius’ body.
