Chapter 190: Why hesitate?
Chapter 190: Why hesitate?
With the assistance of Peter and the Hello Kitty ghost, the over 20,000 ghost members quickly surrendered to Alexander.
Alexander treated these surrendered ghosts generously. Unless they were particularly malicious, he allowed them all to join the ranks of the Fierce Ghost Association, including even Soren.
Although Soren had a somewhat feminine demeanor and wasn’t adept at combat, he had a large number of mature female fans. Right now, what Alexander needed most was numbers, not power.
Only with significant numbers could they trigger the bandwagon effect amongst their enemies.
The Fierce Ghost Association was now a major force, soon to control an entire block, and they needed to entertain their many members.
Riding his motorbike with more than twenty thousand ghosts trailing behind him, Alexander found himself at the back of the pack. No longer needing to deliberately search for the Fierce Ghost Association’s group, they simply followed the loudest noises.
Soon, the sounds of intense combat echoed from up ahead, prompting Alexander to lead his followers towards the source. From a distance, the sounds of fighting and screams emanated from an alley, indicating that a battle had begun.
"Hurry up!" Alexander ordered his troops to speed up.
In his eyes, these ghosts would join the Fierce Ghost Association. If they died in battle, it would be a waste.
Inside the alley, Cain was directing members of the Fierce Ghost Association, having trapped tens of thousands of ghosts in a pit, and was working on clearing those trying to escape.
"Sir, bad news! A large force is coming from behind us; it looks like they’re from the Wicked Ghost Association!" a member reported in panic.
"How are there more behind us?" Cain was alarmed.
Their tactic was to inflict maximum damage with minimal losses, and the last thing they needed was to be tied down by the enemy. The new wave of enemies was entering the trap just as another was approaching.
Even if they won, the losses would be tremendous. "Let’s go see what’s happening at the back, and be ready to retreat!" Without another word, Cain dashed towards the rear.
He was met with a massive number of ghosts. "This is bad, there are at least 20,000 of them!" Cain was ready to order a retreat, believing they were outnumbered.
But just as he was about to, the roar of motorbikes rang out.
"Aren’t these motorbikes exclusive to the Fierce Ghost Association?" Cain thought, and to his astonishment, he recognized the leader: "My God, it’s the boss!"
"Alexander?" Other members of the Fierce Ghost Association were equally baffled, wondering why their honorary chairman seemed to be leading the enemy.
Soon, Alexander, riding his motorbike, rapidly approached. Without acknowledging their surprise, he declared, "Tell everyone to stop. They’re all on our side!"
"Who’s on our side? Boss, why are you with members of the Evil Ghost Association?" Cain was confused.
However, the leader of this 10,000-strong group was Foreskin. While others might not be familiar with Alexander’s capabilities, Foreskin certainly was.
Without hesitation, he shouted, "Cease fire! Everyone stop!"
In the massive trap, several elite fighters of the Evil Ghost Association were planning a joint breakout.
But before they could make their move, they saw members of the Fierce Ghost Association cease fire. These elites were stunned.
They had seen the cunning of the Fierce Ghost Association before. Now they had fallen into a trap, and the enemy had suddenly stopped fighting. They were certain there was a plot afoot!
Suddenly, the few of them ordered their subordinates to stop climbing towards the exit of the pit, casting wary glances above the trap.
Shortly after, several heads peeked out from the edge of the several meters deep pit.
"Soren!" The leader in the pit clearly recognized these figures.
Upon seeing the Hello Kitty ghost and Soren with members of the Fierce Ghost Association, he exclaimed in anger, "Soren, have you, of all people, betrayed us too?"
"How dare you speak to me that way! Atrsh, remember it was me who invited you to the Evil Ghost Association. How could you say that about me?" Soren, agitated, leapt out of the pit and approached the lead evil ghost.
Was Soren suddenly brave? Not at all.
He had long been acquainted with this evil ghost, Atrsh, and some of the ghosts accompanying Atrsh were, in fact, his fans.
But more importantly, Soren wanted to prove his worth in front of Alexander.
Being a performer, Soren had a knack for deception. He whispered a few words, and the expression on Atrsh’s face swiftly changed.
He called out to the figures above, "Dr. Charles, Tommy DeVito! Turns out we’re on the same side! Stop fighting, everyone! Don’t you see Hello Kitty is with them?"
Only ghosts from Happy Street knew the name Charles. But Tommy DeVito was a reputable name in the dark underworld.
Alexander’s school-made story had been spread by the red-haired and purple-haired ghosts. Many aspiring mobster ghosts loved the tale.
It was even more popular than the online books by JUWEL and began trending in many sectors, even threatening to spread across the entire dark hell.
Both the Fierce and Evil Ghost Associations had members who admired and envied characters like Jimmy Conway and Tommy DeVito from the story.
What happened next was simple. The 30,000 evil ghosts from the pit were swiftly recruited, and with Cain’s team, their numbers swelled to 70,000 as they moved on with an imposing momentum.
Soon, they ran into a dispersed group of Evil Ghost Association members. This team was clearly scattered, with just two or three thousand members, the most powerful being only a Fierce ghost.
The two groups coincidentally met at a road fork.
The Evil Ghost Association group was dumbfounded, not just by the numbers but also the odd mix of members from both associations. They were unsure if they should run or stay.
"What are you waiting for? Come over!" Alexander beckoned to them.
The Fierce ghost leading them was even more confused, "Which side are you on? Evil Ghost or Fierce Ghost Association?"
"Why worry about that?" Alexander didn’t directly answer but urged, "Forget about evil or fierce; we’re all on the same side. Hurry up; we’re on a tight schedule!"
"Exactly, hurry up! Stop dawdling like Soren!" Peter added impatiently.
"What do you mean ’like me’? I’m not that slow!" Soren playfully hit Peter and said to the opposite side, "Just come over and follow us. Stop asking questions!"
Whether human or ghost, intelligent beings all have a herd mentality. Facing a massive group they couldn’t possibly defeat, and with their own beckoning, why hesitate? They decided to follow.
