Chapter 573: Space Manipulation
Chapter 573: Space Manipulation
With the zombie leader busy with the Chaos Ye Xuan and the others had created, he didn’t have the time to contact the zombies guarding the hostages.
He had also not realized that one of the humans who had just arrived was missing.
After eating and drinking a bowl of soup made with spiritual water, Chu Miao brought the team that had just recovered to the other side of the city.
She didn’t take them to where Ye Xuan and the others were.
She decided to use a divide and conquer strategy.
If they all went to face the zombies from the same side, they would have heavy firepower aimed at them. However, if one team attacked from the south and the other from the north, it would divide the attention of the leader and the smaller evolved zombies would have to step up.
Fortunately, not many zombies have the same potential to evolve and reverse their condition, taking on their human form again with the same intelligence.
The battle took four hours straight. By the time it was over, everyone was on the verge of collapse.
However, the close five million zombies, including the evolved zombies and the intelligent leader who could talk were all eliminated.
Ye Xuan also found out from that zombie that the king had fully taken on human form and could talk and reason like a normal human.
In fact, it is different to identify him as a zombie.
This information made the team realize that zombies were changing too much. Some might even have infiltrated survivor bases.
Even there the talking zombie reassured several times that only the leader had achieved that level of advancement, they couldn’t fully believe it.
What if it was lying to make them lower their guard?
They couldn’t take the risk.
"Did you guys manage to recruit anyone from Russia?" Pei Ming asked the team members who had come on a mission.
"Yes, we managed to recruit more than five hundred people and we were supposed to pick them up today but with what has happened, I doubt we’ll make it."
"We can still make it. Do you have the coordinates of the place they are waiting?" Chu Miao asked the person who had just replied.
"Yes of course. We were worried about encountering issues and derailing from our path. So, we took the coordinates of everywhere we went." He replied.
"Okay, just give me the coordinates. We’ll teleport there. Also, why were you guys caught by those zombies? Why didn’t you use the teleportation talismans you were provided with?" Chu Miao asked once she remembered why they had come to Russia.
The question hung in the cold air.
"Why didn’t you use the teleportation talismans?" Chu Miao repeated calmly.
The rescued team members exchanged uneasy glances but no one spoke.
This made Chu Miao and the others who came for the rescue confused. Did something major happen? Why do they look so uneasy?
Finally, Qi Long, who had led the team, stepped forward. His clothes were torn and stained with zombie blood, but his posture remained straight.
"We tried." He said seriously.
"What do you mean you tried?" Pei Ming asked in confusion.
"After recruiting a good number of people, we realized that many humans in Russia had turned into zombies early on, so there were a lot of supplies left in many places. So, we decided to collect some supplies before going back. We settled the people in a secure place and entered the city to search for supplies. However, for unknown reasons, we found ourselves quietly surrounded by a large number of zombies. We tried to fight. Killing over two hundred thousand zombies in one hour but we realized that no matter how many we kill, the number wasn’t reducing. It was like the zombies were endless. So, we decided to leave before we ran out of strength. Who would have known that after activating the teleportation talismans, they failed. We remained on the same spot." Qi Long explained in detail what happened.
"That should be impossible. My talismans would not malfunction." Chu Miao said thoughtfully.
She was wondering what could have gone wrong.
"Indeed, your talismans would not fail, unless..." Ye Xuan also agreed but he stopped mid-sentence.
"...unless space was suppressed in the area you were in." Chu Miao finished for him.
But that possiblity caused a chill down her spine. Things were getting more and more complicated.
She never thought she would experience something like that in this lower realm where even cultivators didn’t exist until she introduced cultivation.
Qi Long nodded.
"When we realized that we couldn’t use the talismans, we opted to find a way out of the city. We managed to curve a path out but when we entered the forest outside the city, things became worse. The forest suddenly began to freeze and zombies started surrounding us from every direction. It was as if they had been waiting. But we couldn’t understand what was happening. Eventually, we were either injured or ran out of spiritual energy and strength. That zombie that could talk finally showed up and said they weren’t going to kill us. They wanted to catch a bigger fish. At least, that’s what it said the king had instructed it to do. We were taken back to the city and monitored constantly by evolved zombies and that leader. We didn’t even have the space to take out medicine or food to replenish ourselves and could only meditate to restore our strength. But for the ordinary members, it was tougher."
Qi Long didn’t like to talk usually and Chu Miao was surprised he could talk for so long.
"It seems like these zombies are planning something. Especially that zombie king mentioned in every sentence. It is as if it is announcing its existence but is still afraid of appearing. Either because it’s too afraid, or it’s planning something bigger. I would rather believe the second possibility and prepare for war. Let’s collect the crystal cores here first. Even though these zombies have causes us trouble, we have benefitted a lot." Chu Miao smiled when she thought of the millions of crystal cores they would have to strengthen themselves. Especially the ones with a trace of immortal qi.
