Chapter 169 124: No Water Problem!
Chapter 169 124: No Water Problem!
Zhang Su was very excited to hear this result. The various water tanks on the two RVs add up to nearly two thousand liters. Once filled, they could properly solve everyone's hygiene problems.
"It's easy. Just climb over three, no, four houses, and there's an old-fashioned hand-pump well. Uncle, do you want a drink? I'll go get it for you, and then you let me watch another episode of cartoons, okay?"
Pang Dakun immediately perked up.
Zhang Su waved his hand and said, "We have plenty of drinking water, but the RV's water tank is empty. Can we drive the RV over to fill it?"
"That definitely won't work... If we remove the barricade, those zombie creatures will rush out!"
Pang Dakun shook his head vigorously. He entered and exited the village by walking over the rooftops of each house, which offered a wide view and was safe...
"Got it, I'll handle it. Where do you plan to rest tonight? There's space in the RV if you want to stay, but no cartoons."
Zhang Su stood up and dusted off his pants. The water refilling wasn't urgent and could wait until daylight.
"I need to go back and bury the cup next to my grandpa. I'll come back tomorrow." Pang Dakun patted the cup in his arms, then grabbed Zhang Su's arm and said, "Uncle, you can't leave without telling me."
"I'm going back to the village tomorrow to fetch water, so why would I leave?"
Zhang Su kicked at Pang Dakun but he nimbly dodged it.
"Uncle, can you spare me a few more cigarettes?"
Pang Dakun grinned shamelessly.
Zhang Su looked into his cigarette pack and saw only four or five left. He tossed it to Pang Dakun and said, "Don't smoke too much!"
"Got it!"
With those words, Pang Dakun slipped out of the fertilizer shop like a streak of smoke.
Zhang Su stepped out of the shop, shone his flashlight, and saw Pang Dakun scamper up to the rooftop next to the barricade like a giant gecko, wave back at him, and then disappear into the night.
Observing Pang Dakun's agility, and considering the nearby river, Zhang Su felt that crossing the river to cause trouble for those people wouldn't be difficult for him.
Though the bridge was gone and cars couldn't pass, people still had ways to cross.
"Hey, is that kid not planning to leave with us?"
Seeing Zhang Su return alone, Zhao Dezhu, who was picking his nails with a dagger, asked in surprise.
"He'll come. The little guy is quite filial; he went back to bury the cup on his grandpa's grave and will come back tomorrow."
Zhang Su took a water bottle from Zheng Xinyu, drank a few sips, and continued, "I've got some good news for everyone."
"Good news?"
"Spill it; it's about time we had some good news."
"Brother Su, what's the good news?"
Everyone perked up at the mention of good news.
"The good news is, Shuwa Village will be an excellent training ground for us. Tomorrow, you'll engage in practical training in the village. You need to clear out a portion of the zombies!"
Zhang Su gestured grandly in the direction of Shuwa Village.
"Tsk..."
"Oh."
"Let's just sleep."
After hearing this news, everyone's spirits dimmed. In short, killing zombies didn't sound like good news to them.
However, Zhao Xue, Wu Lue, and Zheng Xinyu, who knew Zhang Su best, were still waiting intently, aware that there was more to come.
When Zhang Su noticed most people's disheartened expressions, he added, "As a reward for clearing the zombies, the village's crops—corn, sweet potatoes, and so on—are all yours. Take as much as you can load!"
"Huh? Yeah, only a few villagers survived; there must be lots of stored grains they couldn't take."
"Right, we're in luck now. Just need to be careful while clearing zombies; it's still dangerous!"
"With food, there's nothing to fear. Let's do it. There's still space in the RV, load it up!"
The mention of abundant food supplies significantly boosted everyone's morale. Fighting tooth and nail was all for a decent meal, but the real surprise was yet to come!
"The food is just part of the reward. The main thing is!" Zhang Su's gaze swept over everyone, and seeing their curiosity, he said, "Water. The well water in the village is safe, and can be used for drinking and bathing!"
"This... is it true? It must be true!"
"Wow, now that's truly good news!"
"Damn, I'm filthy; I really need a good wash!"
Upon hearing this, not only the women were overjoyed, but the men were as well. Nobody wanted to stay grimy all the time; it even affected their fighting strength after a while.
Independent women had to deliberately make themselves unattractive to avoid unwanted attention from lustful men, but now, with a strong team, they could afford to prioritize personal hygiene.
"So everyone take a good rest tonight, except those on watch duty. Work hard clearing the zombies tomorrow. No matter how excited you get, safety comes first, understand?"
Zhang Su motivated them once again.
"Got it, got it!"
Everyone agreed, and soon a group of them got up to head back to the Fukner Mobil RV to prepare for sleep.
Zhang Su stood by the RV door, and when Zhang Ya was about to get off, he blocked her way with his arm and gave her an inscrutable look, asking, "Have you done what you were supposed to do?"
"Huh?" Zhang Ya was taken aback by Zhang Su's sudden question, forced an awkward smile and replied, "Wha-what, Brother Su, I have nothing to do."
Tan Huajun, who was following Zhang Ya, looked at Zhang Su and Zhang Ya with some surprise, not understanding what was going on between them.
Zhang Su stared at Zhang Ya for several seconds and then asked, "If you haven't done it, do you have anything to say to me?"
"N-no, I don't." Zhang Ya, feeling awkward under the scrutiny of several pairs of eyes, lowered her head. Suddenly seeing the arm that blocked her path retreat, she quickly stepped off the RV.
