Chapter 324-I Watched Him Drown
Chapter 324-I Watched Him Drown
Iris:
Whichever direction she stepped, the water went silent as if letting her walk through.
"You will watch him drown," she said calmly and reached for my throat.
I wanted to get away from her, but I could not.
The water was holding me tightly.
I stumbled backward, barely slipping, staying above the surface.
My lungs burned from earlier. My limbs felt heavy, and fighting became too difficult at this point.
She stood over me, her hand hovering above my chest.
Her eyes were cold, and there was a creepy grin on her lips.
"This is what you deserve for stealing Kash from me," she whispered.
Then she pulled back while I stayed sitting in the water, barely able to breathe because half of my ears were submerged, listening to the strange screams beneath the surface.
My face was the only thing out.
Then I watched her pull out the dagger I had lost.
She must have secured it when we were being thrashed around.
She held the dagger up and smiled.
"When you are gone, I will take your Kash, and I will start the life with him that I have dreamed of," she mumbled.
That made me realize that now that she had lost her legs, she would no longer be welcome in the water.
Losing her throne and her territory must have been too much for her.
So she had come to claim the other happiness she had left.
Before she could drive the dagger down, her expression changed.
Confusion flickered across her face.
Then it turned into shock, her jaw dropping as a yelp escaped her lips.
Her expression turned into shock as her body stiffened, and a large claw burst through her chest from behind.
For a second, there was no sound, and even I had to hold my breath because what I was seeing was terrifying.
The claw was holding something red and glowing, beating for a few seconds. It was her heart.
I watched her eyes widen and her lips part, but no words came out. Pain twisted across her face, followed by disbelief.
The claw tightened around her heart, then pulled back, coming out of her body, and her expression stopped changing altogether.
She turned into stone, and then she started to melt like sand in a hand, her body dissolving into the water.
Behind her stood Kash in his mid-transition form, his claw fully shifted and water streaming down his arms.
His jaw was clenched, his eyes dark, and veins stood prominently across his face. He was still holding her heart, though it was no longer beating.
He kept staring at me as he clenched his fist around it before finally letting it fall.
The moment the heart hit the water, everything went silent, and the storm that had started to arrive disappeared as if it had never been there.
It was once again a peaceful night.
I should have known my mate would find me and save me. There was no way Kash wouldn’t arrive when I was in danger.
It had become repetitive now, but it was the kind I felt blessed by.
Those few seconds of looking at Kash were enough for me to realize I was blessed with a mate who understood that one missed call meant his mate was in danger.
Kash moved toward me the moment Eira’s body had completely disappeared, and without hesitation, he reached down, slid one arm behind my back and the other beneath my knees, and lifted me out of the water as if I weighed nothing.
"My wife, are you okay?" he asked very sweetly and I nodded my head.
However, I began to push against his chest immediately, and he noticed that I had something to say.
He adjusted his hold and lifted me slightly in his arms so our eyes could meet.
"Luca is in the water. Please save him," I said, gently touching his cheek.
Touching him again after going through so much in just a few hours felt like heaven, and my hands were probably cold because his skin felt so warm.
"He’s drowning. He needs to be with his kids. Please save him. He cannot die like that," I cried, twisting in his hold, my fingers gripping his shoulders as I tried to look past him into the dark water.
I noticed Kash’s jaw tightened at my words, realizing that Eira had caused us immense distress, and he nodded.
"I’ve got him," he said firmly, his voice steady despite the chaos around us.
Then he strode through the shallow water.
He moved toward the private resort line where the sand was edged with polished stone steps.
Dim lanterns flickered along the wooden deck that extended over the water.
The warriors who had once been under Eira’s control no longer seemed to be in her charge.
They were all standing in a line, their hands tied in front of their bodies, heads bowed in shame for following her directions.
Even though it had not truly been their fault.
When we reached the wet sand near the dock, Kash lowered me carefully but quickly, setting me down just above the tide line where the waves could not drag me back in.
"Stay here," Kash said, cupping my face in his hands.
He then lowered his face and kissed me on the lips.
"I’ll come back with him," he added before leaning in to give me another quick peck on my lips.
I wanted us to stay like that, but he had to go and look for Luca.
Kash turned and was back in the water before I could even respond.
I noticed how large he looked and how easily he cut through the water, yet it was still confusing how silently he had come and gotten rid of her so easily.
Kash swam deeper into the water.
I crawled forward onto my knees, ignoring the ache in my lungs and the cold biting into my skin, my eyes scanning the area desperately for any sign of Luca.
Kash dove into the deeper water without hesitation, and once he disappeared beneath the surface, agitation tightened in my chest.
"Your Highness," one of the warriors whispered from behind me, placing a thick blanket over my shoulders.
I hugged the blanket around myself and turned my head toward him, giving a small nod to reassure him that I did not hold them accountable for what had happened here.
"We truly don’t know what took over us. I am very sorry. We all are," the warrior murmured, tears glistening in his eyes.
"Do not worry. It wasn’t you. She was a mermaid, even a siren. She controlled you," I replied quickly, trying to keep them from being swallowed by guilt.
As anxiety began to crawl into me, I started to worry about Luca.
I remembered our last conversations and how much he wished to be with his children. It was truly unfair.
First Lara, and now Eira, both had tried to take away his happiness, and his only happiness was to be with his children and give them the life they deserved.
Then finally, Kash emerged from the water with Luca, and I drew in a deep breath of relief.
However, I immediately noticed how limp Luca’s body was, his head tilted back unnaturally, water streaming down his face.
"Come on, come on," I whispered under my breath, my nails digging into my palms.
Kash reached the shallows and shifted Luca’s weight over his shoulder, carrying him the remaining distance before lowering him onto the damp sand beside me.
Without wasting a second, Kash dropped to his knees and pressed his hands against Luca’s chest, his expression hard and focused as he began forcing water out of his lungs.
"Breathe," Kash muttered under his breath as he worked.
I pressed my palms together, praying to the Moon Goddess that she would give this man one chance at his happy life, because this was the only time he had truly had a dream of his own, a family of his own.
He was fighting to stay alive, not for me or my mothers, but for his children.
I crawled closer despite the trembling in my limbs, my hand hovering over Luca’s arm without touching him, afraid that if I did, I would feel nothing.
"Please," I whispered, my voice breaking, my eyes fixed on Luca’s face as Kash continued pressing down with good strength.
"Come on, you have to do it for your children," I almost screamed.
I was scared at the lack of movement from him.
Then I began to think about all the time that had passed since Eira started drowning him. Was he really gone? Did we take too long?
All these questions circled in my mind, and I buried my face in my hands, letting out sobs.
"Iris, please get a hold of yourself. He’ll be fine," Kash said, diverting his attention from Luca to comfort me.
But he knew it was not easy for me. I did not understand where that monster came from or why now.
Then I thought about Luca’s children. What would happen to them? Would the council even allow us to keep them?
All these thoughts circled my mind, and I broke down even harder when Luca did not wake up.
