Chapter 394
Chapter 394
The celebration dinner was held at a bar-like venue with a buffet, game competitions, and live singing performances. It wasn’t overly noisy but had a lively atmosphere.
The guests included staff, team members, their families, and sponsors like Qin Xiaoyu, who brought along her own group.
Wen Bo instructed his mother to stay with the other elders and not wander off, then went to find Qin Xiaoyu and her group.
However, Wen’s mother was uneasy and secretly watched from a distance. "Maybe those siblings are playing tricks on my son, but they hold his future in their hands. I have to stay calm. As long as that fox doesn’t seduce my son, he’ll be fine!"
When Qin Xian arrived, he immediately noticed a middle-aged woman lurking in a corner, spying on the booth in the distance. Without a word, he walked past her and headed in that direction.
At the booth, Ji Fei and her two companions were observing the scene with amusement.
Wen Bo was seated beside Qin Xiaoyu but kept stealing glances at Qin Jing. The twins, being naturally sensitive, didn’t notice anything unusual. Occasionally, Wen Bo leaned over Qin Xiaoyu to talk to Qin Jing with a cheerful demeanor. Qin Xiaoyu, unaware, leaned back to make room, while Qin Jing politely leaned closer to listen.
Ji Fei, Qin Chao, and Qin Rong collectively facepalmed in their minds. Why don’t they see it?!
At that moment, Qin Xian arrived.
Everyone greeted him immediately. Upon learning his identity, Wen Bo quickly stood up, eager to show respect.
"Scumbag, no matter how polite you are, it won’t save you. You’re already in a deadlock." Ji Fei’s inner voice was sharp as always.
Qin Xian, unfazed, listened to his wife’s commentary while calmly sitting down. He gently pulled Ji Fei closer and planted a kiss on her forehead.
This habit of his had become so natural that no matter the occasion, he would always greet her with a kiss upon seeing her. Ji Fei was used to it, but others still found it hard to process, given Qin Xian’s typically cold demeanor. Even his cousins were reserved around him.
“Where’s Big Cousin and Jiaxi?” Ji Fei asked.
"If there’s drama tonight, they can’t miss it."
“Big Cousin is composing at home. He said he didn’t want to be disturbed since it’s a rare quiet moment. As for Jiaxi, she was invited to an event by her classmates.”
“Big Cousin is one thing, but Jiaxi is socializing now? She’s making friends?” Ji Fei asked, visibly excited.
Qin Xian nodded. “That’s what I heard before I left home.”
Ji Fei looked genuinely relieved and then turned her attention to her husband. “Have you eaten yet?”
Qin Xian shook his head.
Ji Fei immediately cupped his face with concern. “Don’t starve my handsome man.”
She eagerly dragged him to get food.
When they returned, Ji Fei’s focus shifted back to the scene at the booth.
Qin Jing was trying to reach something to eat but couldn’t quite grab it. He was about to stand when Wen Bo quickly grabbed the entire plate and handed it over.
Qin Jing, surprised by the gesture, found it overly considerate and felt a bit uncomfortable. “Thank you,” he said politely.
"Oh, my God! Pfft—this is inappropriate, but I want to laugh."
But the laughter faded when Wen Bo began encouraging both Qin Xiaoyu and Qin Jing to drink.
"He probably doesn’t dare to do anything outrageous, but with everyone drunk and off-guard, he’ll definitely find excuses to get handsy. This guy’s audacity is insane!"
Qin Chao and Qin Rong couldn’t watch anymore, especially since they were worried about Qin Jing. They didn’t want him to unknowingly become a victim.
By now, Wen Bo was already using the excuse of toasting to lightly pat Qin Jing’s arm or hand. While such contact might seem normal under other circumstances, knowing what they did, it was impossible to ignore.
Ji Fei also kept a close eye on the situation.
While they grew increasingly anxious, Qin Xian remained calm, eating the food Ji Fei had picked for him. By the time he finished his meal, Wen Bo had maneuvered Qin Xiaoyu out of her seat.
“Let me drink with your brother. You sit over there,” Wen Bo said.
Surprisingly, Qin Xiaoyu, caught up in the atmosphere, complied and moved aside. Wen Bo eagerly took the seat next to Qin Jing, his excitement barely concealed.
With trembling hands and a racing heart, he reached out, planning to drape his arm over Qin Jing’s shoulders in a gesture of camaraderie.
Before Ji Fei, Qin Chao, and Qin Rong could come up with an excuse to interrupt, an icy voice cut through the air.
“Qin Jing, where’s your girlfriend?”
The question from Qin Xian startled everyone at the table.
Wen Bo’s hand froze mid-air, and he quickly withdrew it, his expression guilty.
“Huh? Second Brother, did you forget? I haven’t officially met her yet, so how could I invite her here?” Qin Jing replied.
Qin Xian’s brows furrowed as if deep in thought. “You haven’t met her yet? Then you should arrange that soon. Grandma Lü already asked me earlier if we needed to reserve a seat for your girlfriend. You need to confirm these things in advance so the family can plan accordingly.”
At first, Ji Fei thought it was strange for Qin Xian to bring this up out of nowhere, but then she realized it was the perfect opportunity.
Qin Chao and Qin Rong silently gave Qin Xian a thumbs-up. They were certain this wasn’t a coincidence—Qin Xian must have subtly guided Grandma Lü into saying something earlier to create this moment.
Even if Qin Jing followed up later, the story would hold.
Qin Jing blinked in confusion but then sighed. “I doubt she’ll come. It’s hard enough just arranging to meet her, let alone having her attend a family gathering.”
Ji Fei, Qin Chao, and Qin Rong glanced at Wen Bo’s expression. It was subtle but clearly tinged with sadness.
"Is he seriously comforting himself by thinking that being with Qin Xiaoyu is the same as being close to Qin Jing? As if Qin Jing would want him anywhere near if he knew the truth! Stop acting all sentimental—it’s disgusting!"
“Did you tell her about the family gathering?” Qin Xian asked.
Qin Jing paused. “Not yet. I wanted to meet her first before bringing it up.”
Qin Xian lowered his gaze thoughtfully. “Maybe such an important invitation would motivate her to meet you. Why don’t you contact her now and ask?”
Wen Bo’s face stiffened, his unease growing.
Qin Chao immediately jumped in, grinning. “Yeah, you should invite her now! We’re all here—we can extend the invitation together.”
Encouraged by his cousins’ enthusiasm and slightly tipsy from the alcohol, Qin Jing decided to give it a try. He took out his phone and sent her a message.
Unsurprisingly, there was no response.
Qin Xian calmly added, “If she doesn’t reply, give her a call. You must have her number if you’ve been dating this long.”
Ji Fei’s heart raced. Wen Bo had tried to keep up his act, but now his composure was faltering.
Although Qin Jing impulsively called her, Wen Bo’s phone—lying on the table—remained completely silent.
