Chapter 476 - 479 The Difference Between Men [4]
Luo Xiaoqian woke up from her sleep to find herself in darkness, which startled her, and she sat up in a hurry.
In the driver’s seat beside her, Leng Zimo glanced at her profile.
"Awake?"
Upon hearing his voice, Luo Xiaoqian’s nerves instantly relaxed.
She had clearly been on a plane just moments ago and then suddenly found herself in a car. It was natural for her to be anxious, but with him by her side, she no longer felt any negative emotions.
After yawning and stretching her body, she finally asked, "Where are we?"
"See for yourself," Leng Zimo said with a smile.
Leaning towards the car window, Luo Xiaoqian looked out curiously. They were driving on a road that wasn’t very busy.
Outside, it was night, and through the car window, she could vaguely make out the sea water slapping against the shore.
The sea?!
Spotting a familiar name of a place, Luo Xiaoqian’s previously foggy nerves instantly cleared up.
"Is this... Qingdao?!"
Leng Zimo chuckled from the front seat, "Impressive, you can recognize it."
"It’s my hometown, of course I’d recognize it!" Luo Xiaoqian diverted her gaze back to him, "I thought you were in Shanghai. What brings you to Qingdao?"
"I just wrapped up a project here and thought I’d check it out. Plus, I wanted to take you somewhere," Leng Zimo explained with a smile.
"Where?" Luo Xiaoqian asked.
Leng Zimo didn’t answer. "Your house is nearby, right?"
Luo Xiaoqian checked the road ahead, "Turn right at the upcoming intersection, then keep going until the end. We’ll get to the seaside, and there it is."
As the car approached the junction, Leng Zimo flicked on the turn signal and steered the vehicle onto the small road to the right.
"Why are you really turning?!"
"We’re going to see your house, of course."
"But..." Luo Xiaoqian said, her tone revealing a hint of resignation, "It’s not my home anymore."
Leng Zimo glanced at her profile, "You don’t want to let go?"
"It’s where I grew up; of course, I’m attached," Luo Xiaoqian took a deep breath, her hands clasped together as she averted her gaze, not daring to look forward, "There’s no point in going now, I sold the house directly to a developer, and by now it’s certainly been demolished!"
Her family’s place wasn’t in the city center; it was in the suburbs. Although the developers had approached her multiple times, she had never agreed to sell the house—it was more than just property to her, it was her home, her roots, where she grew up.
If sold to them, there would be nothing left.
Initially, she reluctantly agreed to sell it to help Lu Hao with a music video shoot. Later, even though she had the money and considered buying it back, she knew that some things couldn’t be undone.
"Is this the place?"
Leng Zimo slowly stopped the car.
Luo Xiaoqian lifted her face to see the two-story old building bathed in light, her house, which was exactly the same as she had left it.
"It’s really not demolished!" she said, her face lighting up with joy as she pushed open the door, hopped out, and hurriedly approached it, gently caressing the somewhat mottled old brick wall covered in rose branches, "When I passed by General’s Building in the villa area, I was so envious of their wall of roses. I heard that cuttings could grow, so one night I sneaked out with scissors like a thief and snipped a few branches to bring back. My mom said they wouldn’t survive, but I didn’t believe it. I watered them every day, and out of three cuttings, one took root. Eventually, it did grow into a flower wall, but it’s not the season now. In spring, when the flowers are in full bloom, the wall is incredibly beautiful."
"Really?" Leng Zimo came up next to her, standing by her side, "Then we’ll come back to see it in spring."
