Chapter 475 - 478 The Difference Between Men [3]
Beijing, a certain community.
The small one-bedroom was a mess all around, with dirty clothes strewn across the sofa.
On the coffee table, beer bottles and instant noodle boxes were piled up haphazardly. Lu Hao, wearing only a tank top and shorts, tapped his fingers rapidly on the computer keyboard, searching for the latest information on Luo Xiaoqian and Leng Zimo.
Although he really wanted to make this money, he was well aware of one thing—it wasn’t easy money.
Luo Xiaoqian wasn’t the issue, the problem was Leng Zimo.
This man was too powerful. Lu Hao had already suffered a loss last time, so naturally, he would be even more cautious this time.
As he searched, he noted down anything of value.
His phone rang on the desk, and he glanced at the display which read "Hospital Debt Ghost." Annoyed, he hung up directly.
Previously, Luo Xiaoqian had already fronted the surgery costs for his mother, but the surgery hadn’t saved his mother’s health.
Not long ago, Lu Hao had returned to Qingdao once he heard about his mother’s illness; although he complained a lot, he still took out all the money he could.
However, hospital fees for late-stage cancer patients were a bottomless pit.
Over the years, he had made some money, but he squandered it away, leaving little to no savings. Moreover, with no stable income now, his finances were indeed tight.
Assuming it was another call to press for medical bills, Lu Hao had no mood to answer.
A moment later, the phone rang again.
He glanced at it and ignored it, but the phone kept ringing as if it would never stop unless he answered.
He cursed and picked up the call, not waiting for the other person to speak, he blurted out, "I’m broke, I can’t even pay the damn rent, and I’m about to starve. Do whatever you want, if you don’t want to treat her, discharge her!"
On the other end of the phone was a long sigh, "Mr. Lu, I just want to inform you that your mother has passed away two minutes ago. Please come promptly to handle the necessary formalities."
Lu Hao froze on the spot, taking a while before he could answer in a low voice.
"What did you say?"
"I’m sorry, we did everything we could. Please accept our condolences," was the reply before the other end hung up.
Listening to the dial tone, Lu Hao was lost in thought for a long time before he put down the phone. He grabbed a beer can, only to find that it was empty upon closer inspection.
Crushing the can in his hand, he furiously threw the empty can onto the floor.
"If you were going to die sooner or later, why didn’t you die earlier? If I knew this would happen, why the hell did I pay for your medical bills... Damn it, damn it all!"
As he swore to himself, he crouched down, hugging his head on the floor.
Although he was a bastard and had always been not very filial to his mother, the woman who cared for him for most of his life just suddenly left, and heartache was inevitable.
After a while, he stood up from the floor, walked to the bedroom, and quickly packed a few pieces of clothing. Carrying the bag, he walked to the coffee table, intending to close the laptop. His eyes lit up when he saw Luo Xiaoqian’s photo on the screen.
"Mom, you really were my dear mother; You died at just the right time!"
Packing the laptop into his bag, he grabbed the phone from the desk and headed to the door, swiftly dialing a number, "Qiangzi, come back to Qingdao with me... Of course, it’s to make money... Don’t worry, I won’t let you down!"
