After Rebirth, I Accept The Arranged Marriage

Chapter 202: Earning Big

Chapter 202: Earning Big

After Jessie finished speaking, there was a long silence from Arya Thorne on the other end of the line.

Then, she hung up.

Jessie’s attention had already drifted from the phone call. Gazing at the large, second-floor walk-in closet, she couldn’t resist messaging Victor Morgan.

Jessie Sterling: I have nothing to wear!

When Victor Morgan received Jessie’s message, he replied with a single word: "Buy."

Jessie had been busy with work lately, so the clothes sent to Sixi Courtyard by various brand managers were mostly formal business attire. There were many Chanel-style outfits and other professional looks, but very few resort-wear pieces.

It was Saturday, and Victor Morgan was working overtime at the office to prepare for their upcoming vacation.

Jessie wanted to go shopping. She called Victor directly to ask if he was free in the afternoon.

Come to think of it, Victor really hadn’t taken Jessie shopping much in their home country. Although his wife had posed it as a question, he knew that if he were foolish enough to say he wasn’t free, he could probably forget about sleeping in their bed tonight.

Victor Morgan, of course, agreed immediately.

Jessie dragged Victor to the mall for a shopping spree. She had initially thought that shopping with a workaholic like him would be boring. Given his habit of working even on airplanes, she figured he’d just sit on a sofa reading documents while she tried on clothes.

But to Jessie’s surprise, Victor didn’t pull out his phone or laptop to look at files. Instead, he sat in the store and watched her attentively each time she came out of the fitting room, offering his opinion.

Although Victor’s advice was always the same—"It’s beautiful, buy it"—she couldn’t help but be swayed by the praise.

His vocabulary was limited, but his praise was completely genuine, with no hint of just going through the motions.

Jessie stifled a laugh, but the sales associate beside them chimed in, both pleased and envious, "Ma’am, your husband is so good to you."

Jessie smiled and said, "Is ’buy’ the only thing he knows how to say? You’d think he could come up with a few more compliments."

’In front of strangers,’ Jessie thought, ’it’s best to be a little humble.’

The sales associate’s eyes widened. "And that’s not enough for you?! I’ve been working here for almost four years, and I’ve seen all sorts of men come shopping with their partners. Very few say ’buy it’ without even looking at the price tag, let alone someone like your husband, who just says yes to everything. Plus, while you were in the fitting room, he just stared at the curtain. He didn’t even glance at his phone once."

That was something Jessie hadn’t noticed.

The moment the associate said that, Jessie couldn’t control the expression on her face. Her eyebrows practically flew up in delight.

With such an enthusiastic supporter as Victor by her side, combined with her own natural propensity to spend, the afternoon turned into Jessie’s personal shopping tour of the entire mall.

She bought so much that she didn’t carry any of it herself. Instead, the mall manager came over personally, took down her home address, and arranged for everything to be delivered later.

After an afternoon of walking, Jessie was starting to get hungry.

"Not so fast." Just as Jessie was about to head off to eat, Victor, who was beside her, took her hand.

"Hm?"

"Let’s do a little more shopping," Victor said.

Jessie raised an eyebrow. ’She’d bought more than enough on this trip. Racking her brain, she couldn’t think of anything else she possibly needed to buy.’

"Let’s get you a new pair of shoes," Victor said, his gaze falling to the silver high heels Jessie was wearing.

He had actually wanted to suggest she change into a pair of flats for a while now. They would be easier to walk in and wouldn’t tire her feet. But he knew his wife was someone who meticulously coordinated her outfits before leaving the house. While they were out, Jessie would never agree to take off her current heels.

’But once they were at dinner and seated, who would be staring at her feet? It would be a good chance for her to rest them and be comfortable.’

Just as he expected, when Victor made the suggestion, Jessie’s eyebrow shot up. "I’m not tired. Besides, don’t you think these shoes are beautiful?"

They were three-inch stilettos with pointed toes, covered in tiny rhinestones. They really did look just like Cinderella’s glass slippers.

Victor nodded. "They’re beautiful. They also look exhausting to wear."

Jessie: "..."

"Change into a different pair for dinner. You can change back after we’re done eating," Victor coaxed in a low voice.

Jessie wanted to hold her head high and argue, but her resolve crumbled the moment she met Victor’s eyes.

"All right, fine. I’ll listen to you this once."

Victor gently squeezed her palm. "Such a good girl. If you want to buy anything else after we eat, we’ll get it."

Jessie laughed and nodded. "Well, you’re the one paying. Besides, I’ve already earned you so much money!"

Last time in Paris, Leo Goodman’s scheming had caused many investors to pull their funding from *Glory*. Even after a release date was set, sponsorships were scarce, and Victor had to step in to cover most of it.

But judging by the results, the investment Victor had made to bail Jessie out of her predicament had turned into one of the best investments of the year. The success of *Glory* had earned him a massive profit.

It was quite the windfall.

Victor didn’t particularly care about the money he’d made from the investment, but he knew he had to praise Jessie for her sharp eye. Otherwise...

"In that case, next time you have a good project, President Sterling, please consider me, will you? Whether or not I strike it rich in this lifetime is all up to you," Victor said with a smile.

His flattery went straight to Jessie’s heart, making her laugh out loud.

In fact, Victor wasn’t the only one who made money from this investment. Old Second and Lynn Jennings had invested as well.

It was just that at the time, both Old Second and Lynn Jennings felt that since Jessie was married, she should naturally go to Victor whenever she ran into trouble, especially financial trouble.

After all, President Morgan wasn’t short on cash, and since they were husband and wife, it was only natural for Victor to help out.

Still, as family and friends, Old Second and Lynn Jennings had chipped in a symbolic amount.

It wasn’t much, but given how things had turned out, they were now set to make a tidy profit as well.

Jessie felt rather smug. When they got back to Sixi Courtyard, she couldn’t help but go up on her toes and do a little twirling dance in the silver-white flats Victor had bought her during dinner.

"Victor, from now on, you should just invest in my company’s TV shows," she declared. "I guarantee I’ll make you a fortune!" Jessie had had a few glasses of sweet, low-alcohol red wine at dinner. Given her low tolerance, she was now in a tipsy state, if not outright drunk. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have made such a brazen boast.

Victor followed her into the room. Just as Jessie was about to dance away, he reached out a long arm and scooped her into his embrace. It was as if he had caught a sprite dancing in the night, and he had no intention of letting her go.

"Oh? Is President Sterling really that amazing?" Victor murmured with a smile, lowering his head so his lips brushed against Jessie’s ear. "Then I’ll have to ask President Sterling to take good care of me in the future..."

As he spoke, the hand Victor had wrapped around Jessie’s waist had, at some point, slipped beneath the hem of her skirt.
