Connor used to never dare to have any thoughts about her; he felt she should marry that kind of elite man, at least someone with a PhD, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, refined, and articulately spoken.But by a twist of fate, she became his, really giving him a lucky break.
Connor took out a soup bowl to serve the soup, and Natalie Niles reached out to carry it, but he didn’t let her.
"It’s very hot, don’t touch it. I’ll carry it. You go sit outside and just wait to eat."
He carried the soup out of the kitchen, with Natalie Niles following behind him. When he put down the soup bowl and went back to the kitchen for the rest, Natalie followed him in again.
Connor, feeling helpless, had to hold a dish in one hand and her hand in the other: "Do you like following me so much?"
Natalie didn’t speak, just kept following him wherever he went; when he went to wash his hands, she followed him.
Connor’s heart was pounding inexplicably because of her actions; she was so well-behaved today, like a child afraid of being abandoned at any moment, clinging to him for a sense of security.
It was driving him crazy; if she kept doing this, he wouldn’t want to eat anymore and just wanted to hold her!
"I didn’t come home for lunch. What did you eat by yourself at home?"
"Instant noodles."
"How can you eat that? There are frozen dumplings in the fridge, even eating those would be better than instant noodles."
"I didn’t want to cook, instant noodles are quick."
She usually handled everything methodically and calmly, except for eating. She was always in a rush and didn’t like waiting. When she was hungry, she needed to eat immediately.
Connor knew this was a leftover symptom from the hardships she faced during her previous missions.
He led her to sit at the dining table, served her soup and rice, and couldn’t help but ask, "And you still made dinner for me? Didn’t you find it troublesome?"
"I couldn’t let you eat instant noodles too, besides, we’re out of instant noodles at home."
Connor was surprised: "That’s impossible. I remember there are still three or four cup noodles at home, right?"
Natalie was quite indifferent: "I ate them all. Do you usually eat only one at a time?"
Connor was shocked: "Did you really eat three at once?"
"Four."
Natalie drank the soup, quickly finishing off the food in front of her, "Do you feel like you can’t afford to feed me now?"
Connor looked at her slender figure, hardly believing she could eat that much!
He gently pushed all the dishes towards her: "I can afford to feed you, you can eat as much as you want."
How much could eating possibly cost?
She neither liked luxury goods nor makeup and dressing up. Clothes washed to the point of fading were still being worn. Where was the money being spent?
After the meal, Natalie had eaten two-thirds of the food, polishing off everything without wasting a bit.
Connor felt distressed. What kind of days had she lived through in the past three years, turning from a pampered young lady into this?
Natalie didn’t have a good lunch. Instant noodles weren’t filling, and she finally had a good dinner, leaning contently on Connor’s shoulder: "Who’s washing the dishes?"
"I will."
Since she made the food, Connor definitely wouldn’t let her wash the dishes. Even if she wasn’t injured, he wouldn’t let her do it.
He hugged Natalie closer to him: "Where are the clothes you changed out of last night?"
"I put them in the washing machine."
"I’ll wash them from now on. You don’t have to do anything."
Natalie couldn’t help but look at him. His profile was quite well-defined, with deep eye sockets, a straight nose, slightly wavy short hair, and a full forehead, reminiscent of a European nobleman from the last century with a distinctive aura.
Yet, he always spoke and acted with a bit of humility, always smiling, placing himself very low, creating a strong contrast with his noble-like appearance.
