Chapter 656: Unable to Bear the Cost of Losing You
"Natalie!"Connor quickly caught her, "Are you lying to me again? Don’t use this to deceive me!"
He held Natalie Niles tightly, cold sweat dripping down his forehead.
Natalie had no response, only the blood at her lips continued to flow.
Connor was furious beyond words!
She had just said there was bleeding in her chest, and it turned out to be true!
She had barely recovered a bit, yet she was walking around, certainly reopening the wound.
The hateful thing was her lies, making it hard for him to tell what was true and what was false.
Connor picked her up and quickly returned to the second-floor bedroom, laid her on the bed, wiped the blood from her lips, and anxiously called Johan Niles.
"She’s coughing up blood!"
"How could that be!"
Johan had just left not long ago, and upon receiving Connor’s call, felt his scalp prickling: "Wasn’t she fine a moment ago?"
"She moved around a bit."
"She shouldn’t move! Make her lie still!"
"What should I do now?"
"Is she still vomiting blood?"
"No, she’s fainted."
Johan sighed with relief, "That’s good, feed her some anti-inflammatory and hemostatic medicine. I can’t come over now, Lucas Chambers just arrived at the hospital!"
After saying this, he hurriedly hung up to deal with Lucas Chambers.
Connor found the medicine and carefully fed it to Natalie, holding her by the bedside, watching over her.
Her face was pale, her brows furrowed lightly, as if even in her coma she was aware of endless pain.
Connor felt a pang of regret.
He shouldn’t have talked about breaking up with her at this moment.
But she could see and still lied to him saying she couldn’t, even found the hidden passage he had concealed and went through it herself; he couldn’t help but be angry.
Yet, he couldn’t help but love her.
Connor gently stroked her face, thinking he must owe her something from a past life, being tormented to death by her in this life.
His heart was aching yet filled with joy, like a masochist repeating this process again and again.
When she slept, she looked so obedient and gentle, Connor wished he could merge her into his body, never to be separated, bringing her wherever he went so she couldn’t make more trouble.
But that wasn’t possible.
He had to lower his head and secretly kiss her.
Kiss after kiss, at some unknown point, Natalie opened her eyes, calmly watching him.
Connor quickly sat up from her, intending to leave, but her hand firmly gripped his wrist.
Her face pale, voice weak, "I was wrong..."
Her once calm eyes turned red, filled with unusual emotion, "I’ll behave from now on, I can’t bear the cost of losing you..."
She admitted her mistake more times today than she ever had, as if all her strength was concentrated in her fingers, holding on to him, not letting him go.
Connor held her wrist in return, "Let go, don’t grip so hard. I’m staying with you, I’m not leaving."
He said, lifting the thin blanket, and lay on the bed next to her, on his side.
Natalie wanted to turn on her side to hug him too but was pressed down by Connor, "Don’t move, just lie still."
Natalie disregarded his words, stubbornly shifted from lying flat to curling into his arms, her back already soaked from that small movement.
Internal injuries hurt more than external ones, for they couldn’t be seen, yet the pain could take one’s breath away.
Her voice was even weaker than before, "Why aren’t you holding me?"
Connor couldn’t bear to see her like this, hurting so much yet insisting on pressing close to him, insisting he hold her.
His heart ached deeply, yet it felt as though something flooded it, calming his restless soul—she truly loved him, that couldn’t be faked.
