Chapter 263 263: Fighting Fish

Chapter 263 263: Fighting Fish

The blade of water sliced through the ocean before the girls at frightening speeds, they both tried to move out of the way but were instantly reminded of the difficulty of quickly moving whilst underwater.

The expanding water blade managed to clip both of them before they could fully dodge the attack, drawing a thin line of blood on Luna but only managing to scuff the sturdy scales on Violet's flank.

This fact did not seem to escape the crabs notice, angry and muffled clacking reverberated out from the gathered crabs as they made their displeasure know.

Unfortunately for the crabs they did not quite understand the difference in power between the two parties.

A spear of utter nothingness shot forward with incredible speed, a vacuum of space was left in the spears wake as it simply erased the water that dared block its path. Small shockwaves of pressure echoed out moments after the spear passed leaving a clear trail of destruction leading directly to the crustaceans.

The spear was aimed at the large crab. The one that had chosen to attack them first. The crab noticed the incoming attack, opting to raise its large claw in a misguided attempt to deflect the attack with its shell alone.

That theory was instantly disavowed when the spear punched straight through the claw, then impaled the body of the crab but a moment later. The crab seemed stunned for a moment, then the spear exploded and the remenants of the now dead crab were scattered in bloody chunks.

The surrounding crabs all froze at this, looking over at the disassembled corpse of their former leader. Then before they could process the sudden shift Luna appeared right in their midst, the temperature of the water surrounding her instantly as she unleashed her pseudo domain and lashed out with claw and fang.

They only killed around half of the crabs that chose to attack them, allowing the remaining ones to flee in terror. It truly was not worth it for the girls spend the time required to hunt down those that saw reason and fled.

Still with the first combat of the day complete the girls had a moment to properly take in the environment that seems to be the preferred home for tier 4 beasts like them.

It is understandable why beast of this level would choose to settle here instead of closer to the shore. For one beasts of this level can get very big so they would need the space that this area provides to live comfortably.

But perhaps the most important reason would be that the mana levels in the ocean take a noticeable jump once they passed by the cliff edge leading deeper into the area.

That is something that the girls have now noticed as their power increased, as they get larger and more powerful their bodies naturally require some mana to keep them running. This can come from their own internal mana supply, but that would cause a steady drain on their supply, so it made more sense to reside within an area that held mana at a level suitable for them to naturally maintain their strength.

The land up above the waves was only just suitable to maintain their high tier 4 bodies with no ill effects, yet if the mana were to get much sparser it could begin to cause some issues. The mountains where the ancient dragons once called home held much denser mana levels, this was likely the reason that they chose that location as their home.

As for the ocean it seemed like the deeper they went the higher the mana levels went. And this process did not seem to slow down at all, this led the girls to assume that if they went out far enough they would surely encounter tier 5 beasts out in the depths of the ocean.

Still they would not risk going so deep whilst in an unfavourable environment such as this. So they were content to simply explore this strange new world of the coral towers and kelp forests.

"Shall we explore the sea floor some? Or did you have somewhere else you wanted to go?" Asked Luna.

Violet scanned their surroundings some more, her powerful eyes taking in details at impressive distances. She took note of the shifting shadows that told tales of powerful beasts, of the large shoals of low leveled fishes that lived high up near the surface, never daring to delve deep into the domain of the powerful predators that lived below them.

She soon stopped upon a seemingly harmless looking coral tower some distance away. From first impressions it did not seem overly impressive, it was of average height when compared to its neighbors, the corals on it were of a deep emerald and crimson hue.

All in all ot looked quite mundane, yet Violet found herself inextricably drawn to it, something inside of her was nudging her to investigate that tower and she was intrigued to find out what.

"That tower over there, not sure why but I think we should find something interesting if we explore around it." She eventually said.

Luna looked at the coral tower in question, but seemed confused as to why Violet seemed interested in it, still she simply shrugged and acquiesced to her companions desires.

The two of them then set out in its direction. Their bodies cutting through the water with ease, Violet using her tail much like a rudder. It was reminiscent of flying, except she did not need to flap her wings to maintain her altitude.

As they approached the tower they suddenly felt a surge of a fairly powerful presence pass by them. That was soon joined by a second presence of equal strength, then a third, and a fourth. Soon they were enveloped with nearly a dozen presences, all of them locked into them as they floated in the waters just above the tower.

The two companions merged their own presences to hold back to pressure that they were being subjected to. Eager grins adorned their faces as they awaited the arrival of those that had so boldly challenged them.

They did not have to wait for long.

From within the tower itself several figures emerged, they mostly resembled regular fishes, except for the fact that each one was almost 10 meters long.

They were adorned with primarily blue scales, with some yellow highlights. Sharp ridges lined the spine of the beasts and sharp blade like protrusions jutted out from the ends of their fins on their tail. Their mouths were large, lines with rows of razor sharp teeth that promised pain if they were to be bitten.

The beasts rapidly emerged one after the other, soon their full group emerged bringing their total number up to 14, quite the intimidating number of foes for most people to face.

Still the two companions eagerly observed their foes, taking note of the speed at which they swam through the water, how they easily turned on a dime as they worked to encircle the two of them.

Powerful water currents seemed to ripple along their bodies, showcasing their natural affinity for the element, unsurprising in powerful aquatic beasts such as these.

Still even with the clear intimidation display, Violet and Luna only looked on with excitement, eager to have a propper fight where their skills could be truly tested.

"Wanna make a bet?" Asked Violet as she observed the arrayed group before them.

"Oh what would be the wager?"

"Hmm let's say that the looser has to cook dinner?"

"I can agree to that. What would we be betting on though?" Replied Luna with clear amusement in her voice.

"Let's see who can kill the most of them, I see 14 of them so let's see who can take down the most." Answered Violet with a matching level of excitement.

Luna let out a short amused chuckle through their mental bond. "Alright I'll take that wager. Just don't go complaining when I win and you are forced to cook for us!"

Violet in turn let out a snort of her own. "Well then let the best girl win!"

And like that the two companions rushed forward, void and ice forming around them as they eagerly dove into the battle before them.
