Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 255 255: Happenings

Chapter 255 255: Happenings

The King of Eldor let out a tired sigh as the last supplicant left his throne room for the day. It was not a common occasion for him to hold court so openly, yet it was an inevitable necessity with the current expansion project underway.

He needed to ensure that the petty nobles and affluent merchants did not forget to whine they swore their fealty too.

Theodore wanted nothing more than to just spent the rest of the day in peace and quiet after the past many hours presiding over the lessers squabble amongst themselves, saddly heavy is the head that wears the crown and responsibilities demand that he continues with his work.

The King soon found himself walking down the opulent corridors of his palace, hardly even taking notice of the servants that bowed in his presence.

Before long he entered into the all too familiar private meeting room, only accessible by his top advisors and military generals.

Upon his enterance every person present rose to their feet and bowed low towards him. Everyone except for one, who only nodded his head fractionally.

That display infuriated the King, yet he was forced to hide his rage at General Hovis, after all ever since he had defeated the Storm Titan his renown and prestige had risen to near unheard of levels. That coupled with his status as the undisputed strongest person in the entirer kingdom, being at the very peak of the 5th tier ensured that the King truly had no easy way to deal with the man.

Regardless, he was working on something, it would just take time.

"At ease, inform me of the latest situation in the Endless Forest." The King stated with an imperious wave of his sleeve.

Ralph bowed once again, always showing the propper respect due to the King. "Your majesty, our army has finally completed its siege of the city of Parsus. The savages have been defeated and our army is in the process of cataloging our gains and repairing the damage dealt to the walls during the siege."

The King nodded absentmindedly at the news, already knowing that it was only a forgon conclusion that the city would be captured eventually.

"What of the other cities deeper in? Have we discovered any news? What has there response been to our victory?"

One of the other generals spoke this time, he was a sturdy man with an ostentatious handlebar moustache that had been styled to perfection and extended a good distance out from the side of his face.

"Our forward scouts have managed to make their way into 4 further cities in the eastern part of the Forest. From what we have gathered they are aware of our actions but have not made any overt moves past bolstering their defenses."

"Except for the city of Syan that is. They seem to be making serious moves, dozens of diplomatic and military expeditions have been seen departing from the city. Some heading towards known cities and others heading deeper into the wilds. We believe that they may have found hints of the Wild Dragons location and are making moves to make contact with it."

The King frowned at those words. He had heard very little regarding that pesky wild dragon, its appearance had thrown the natural order into disarray and caused unrest in his kingdom, an unacceptable act.

Still their was little he could do regarding that lowly beast until it was discovered so he put the matter out of his mind for now to focus on more important matters.

"How is the second army faring?"

"Making slow but steady progress, they should be able to make it to Syan within two months if the situation remains the same."

The King frowned at that, displeased at how long they were taking. "Why so long? Our scouts arrived there weeks ago." He stated with clear reproach in his voice.

The advisor that spoke before fidgeted nervously with his hands as he spoke. "About that… the Wilds appear to have become significantly more dangerous as of late… the army has run into large hives of monsters that they have had to fight off, they have suffered significant casualties so we're forced to reduce their speed to limit losses."

"Monsters? They are supposed to be a rare occurrence are they not? What is going on?"

The gathered advisors and generals looked around in worry, none of them seemed to have a clear idea of why monster populations seemed to be on the rise, or at least they seemed unwilling to give their opinions on the matter.

Except for General Hovis, he snorted in derision at the sight of the fidgeting advisors and spoke up, power rippled out from him in unconscious waves causing those present to feel as of a blade had suddenly been pressed to their throat.

"Isn't it obvious?" He paused Ashe glanced around, then let out another snort before continuing. "It's all because of the Champion Beast Protocol, ever since it opened up to anything that killed one of these champions the wilds have been in turmoil. The old monsters that have previously been dormant have finally started to wake up."

A vicious grin grew on his face as a wave of bloodlust spread out around the room, further pressuring those present, not even the King was spared from the pressure of the man's blood drenched domain.

"The Wilds are waking up, and we are marching in thousands of walking bags of blood and food into the monsters domains."

His chilling words caused the assembled men to shiver unconsciously, particularly at the reference to their army being called 'walking bags of blood and food'

The King took a moment to shake off the effects of Hovis's domain before he responded to the news, a wicked smile adorning his own face as he came up with a brilliant idea.

"Then I have a new mission for you General Hovis. You and your mount are to enter the Endless Forest, investigate this monster activity and quell any monster waves before they can become an issue for our army's."

Yet instead of any negative reaction to that order the General smiled at the King, yet whilst it held hints of genuine excitement at the prospect of slaughtering monsters, it also held an unfathomable darkness that caused beads of sweat to drip down the back of the king as he gazed into those dark eyes.

"It shall be done, I will set off immediately."

And just like that General Hovis, the most powerful man in the Kingdom of Eldor turned on his heel and left the room. His exit finally allowing those present to breath freely now that is domineering domain and presence had left them.

"Then if their is nothing else I shall leave the rest to you." The king stated after some time had passed in silence, like that King Theodore left the meeting room as well, this time he was determined to get some much needed rest in after such a taxing day. After all it was almost lunch time and it had already been such a tiring day.

Ivy sat in her office within the Wild Orders headquarters within the city of Cragkieth, her subordinates had just finished filling her in on the battle that had just wrapped up. Not that it was exactly needed given that she had personally witnessed the fight, still it was good to get the report in case she missed any details.

Once the report had been given her sobordinate left the office, leaving Ivy once more alone to her thoughts.

She leaned back in her chair as she went over the events of the day.

Ivy had truly not expected things to get quite so out of hand, for one of the generals to fall in battle was a serious blow to the city. Uliis was a solid man, simple minded yes, but simple meant he was easy to deal with.

Then came the fact that because of his failure to handle that tyrant by himself something had happened to the Wild One.

Ivy had wanted to intervene at the end, yet space was simply too broken for her to do anything before it was too late and Violet was already gone.

She sighed once again and took out an inscribed gemstone, watching as an etherial arrow formed above it and pointed off towards the East.

Well at least she had managed to get the tracking stone attuned to her presence thanks to that old artificer Masel. Now she just wondered what it is that she should do with it.

Then a smile adorned her face as she though of exactly what she could do. The man Masin seemed to have survived the final attack, along with young Olivia and the wild ones friends.

Yes they would be prefect to give the device to, after all if she did this small favour for them her goals would be just that much easier to accomplish.
