Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 245 245: Struggle

Chapter 245 245: Struggle

Violet coughed slightly after she had unleashed her dragon breath, thanks to that treasure that she ate on the first floor of the dungeon her breath no longer wrecked her throat with every use of her breath attack. Still her void was by no means a gentle element, so even with her body being reinforced some pain still persisted.

Violet guessed that she would have to advance to later in tier 4 before she could fully withstand the force of her own breath. Well that is assuming that the force of the attack doesn't increase faster than her own constitution.

Regardless now was not the time for such pondering, after all they were still in a fight.

Her breath had managed to cut down a good number of foes, that coupled with her friends explosive entrance into the battlefield had tilted the momentum of the battle in the adventures favour. Yet the adventures were still outnumbered and with the strength that Violet felt from the being standing at the back of the army, they were also outclassed.

Odrin did seem like a powerful ranger, yet his skill set was just outright countered by these special creatures causing his impact to be drastically reduced and causing him to have to struggle to make any impact on the overall battle.

Even violet with her own void was somewhat stifled by these special creatures. Her void should be the counter against special magics, yet the incarnation simply overpowered her own magics making any attempt to fight directly against it a hopeless endeavour.

Thankfully her skills seemed able to overwhelmed the lesser creatures magics, so she eagerly unleashed hell on them.

Bolts and spears manifested all around her as Violet unleashed her onslaught of spells against the creatures, they tried to errect portals and shields to block her attacks. Yet what hope did these creatures that were of a similar level to her have of overpowering her magic?

Her piercing void spears tore straight through a portal, the space simply ceasing to exist as the void exerted its power. The unlucky creature that summoned that portal didn't even have a chance to react before its head was run through, only to explode a moment later.

The rain of bolts had less luck punching through the defenses, yet they did not get transported by the portals either. The portals simply acting as a defensive shield and loosing some of their strength with each successive bolt they blocked.

Violet focused her attack on any areas that seemed to be getting overwhelmed, sending a precise spear or barrage of bolts to intercept any creature that was posing a threat to the adventures.

She could not stop them all however, new wounds appeared up and down the line of defenders. Yet Susan was there to heal the wounded, her wand held ready as swirls of water protected her back from any teleporting ambush.

Olivia was like the stalwart barrier that refused to give ground. A sea of thorny vines emerged from the ground around her as she stood fearlessly in front of the adventures. Her shield crushing the skull of any foe that got too close, her back being defended by those that she in turn protected.

Rhyana was like a flittering bolt of devastation, she rushed through the lines of attackers with impunity. Occasionally regaining her corporal form only to deliver a devastating strike with her gauntleted hands.

Condensed lightning coursed through any creature that she struck, ricocheting bolts streaking out to lance through nearby beings. The intensity of the bolts causing the creatures to momentarily freeze as their muscles spasmed from the force, that moment never allowed to be missed as the desperate adventures delivered devastating attacks to the momentarily incapacitated foes.

Luna was an island of frozen death, she danced around in the middle of the attacking army. The ground around her freezing over as she manifested a world of arctic ice, her frozen illusions joining her in a choreographed dance of death.

A steady stream of ice spears forming around her to impale her foes, some forming from the frozen ground and other simply condensing from the water frozen from the air itself.

Her domain steadily turned into a macarbre display of deadly grace. Pillars of ice emerging from the ground in a wide area around her some adorned with the impaled corpses of the unlucky creatures that failed to dodge.

Yet they were still only 5, even with their greater than average strength it was not enough to overcome overwhelming numbers of foes of a similar strength to them.

Despite over half of the original attacking force having been defeated already the number of foes was steadily being replenished by the incarnation standing on the back. Small portals would appear for a scant few seconds through which more and more of the creatures would emerge.

The only consolation to this was that less creatures arrived than were killed, still this could not be allowed to continue. The original band of adventures had been fighting for some time by now, their stamina and mana already running low from the prolonged battle.

Even with the reinvigorating presence of Violet's draconic aura and Susan's supportive spells there was only so much that a tired warrior could withstand.

These adventures, whilst definitely skilled fighters, they had not been baptised in constant battle, battle upon which their lives were on the line in a constant struggle.

They had been raised in relative safety, only recently had they been allowed to venture out into the world with no supervision, only recently had they learnt the vicious truth that the wilds represented.

Under this building pressure their will was slowly being deteriorated, they still fought with skill and determination, yet fear was beginning to seep in as they saw the steady stream of reinforcements that the attacking army was receiving.

Violet was not the only one to notice this fact. The other mid stage lords and Odrin, those who had more experience in the world noticed the steady diminishing of the less experienced adventures resolve. Yet what could they do? Help was both so close yet so impossibly far away.

The stronger groups still within the dungeon were their greatest hope for aid, yet it was anyone's guess as to when or even if they may emerge from within to assist the beleaguered adventures.

So they did all that they could, powerful skills were unleashed, rallying cries were shouted and death was dealt to those creatures that charged at them with reckless abandon. The creatures fell, yet more came to fill in the gap left by their fallen brethren.

Violet grimaced as she saw the slowly shifting battlefield. The momentum that her group had recovered upon their arrival was steadily diminishing, the advantage in skill and strength was being steadily whittled down with shear numbers. All the while the strongest combatant for the opposing army never even deigned to make a move, simply standing back and continually calling in more reinforcements.

Violet growled in frustration, despite the strength that she had gained so recently she was still unable to make a significant difference. Sure she was powerful, but she was not powerful enough. Her pride had once again been wounded and that was not something that she would allow to happen again.

Her mana surged, a massive magical circle began to form in the air above her as dozens of smaller runic circles began to form in the air all around the cavern. She entirely stopped firing her spears and bolts, her entire concentration dedicated to the spell that she was devising.

It was centered on her void cannon, that being the primary 'node' of the spell. She knew that that spell alone would not be enough however, instead she worked to maximise its impact and widen the range of damage that it could do.

The circle slowly filled in, the runes carving themselves into reality as her powerful mana continued to flow ceaselessly into the runes she was forming.

Her mind strained with the effort to complete such a complex spell, this being the single most complex working of magic she had ever attempted.

Some of the creatures noticed the magic she was casting, choosing to try and ambush her in this delicate moment. Yet when they teleported besides her they were greeted by a crossbow bolt to the head curtesy of Odrin, he was watching her cast her spell and was ensuring that none could intrude on her efforts.

Soon the spell was ready. The last of the runes had been carved and her mana was nearly entirely spent. All that was left was to choose the target and unleash the destruction.

Violet's gaze locked onto the cause for all of this destruction, the Incarnation of Space standing in the back. It felt her gaze and turned to face the dragon, its vertical mouth splitting in a terrifying grin showing the abysmal maw that only promised death to all that entered.

Violet grinned, her mana surged one final time and the world once more turned purple as devastation was unleashed into the world.
