Chapter 238: Back to the Dungeon
Chapter 238: Back to the Dungeon
Violet listened to the elderly dragon describe his life, she found it fascinating to hear stories of both her mother and supposed grandfather. She would have liked to have properly met them, sadly that seemed to be an impossibility.
Still when Violet heard about her mothers disastrous trip into that scary hole in the Earth both her and Luna could not help but shudder as they realised that they had been so close to such a terrifying existence. If whatever that tree in the hole was able to defeat multiple sovereign tiered dragons... what hope would they have ever stood against such a being.
Vithrax seemed to pause after describing that event, likely still remembering the pain of loosing two friends in that event.
"But how did you end up in this dungeon? And didn’t you say you were a sovereign? But your only a powerful lord right now?" Violet couldn’t help but ask the dragon after some time of silence had passed.
Vithrax snorted at that but did proceed to explain. "Well that is a result of the war. After the human kingdom killed the dragon king, dragons the world over were being hunted down. The princess was no exception to this. I was severely wounded whilst holding back a powerful kill squad over the spine mountains."
"Upon crashing into the mountains I managed to fall into a nascent dungeon." He mirthlessly chuckled then. "Was just my luck really, I failed to hold back all of the attackers, only to be denied my death when the dungeon decided that my dying body made a good snack. It managed to preserve some of my essence which resulted in me being here."
Violet felt her eyes open wide at that, she did not envy the old dragon its fate. Having to be forced to stay alive to deal with the knowlage of its failings and never being able to repent for his perceived sins.
She also found it fascinating that such a thing could even happen, that a baby dungeon could somehow incorporate such a powerful existence as a tier 5 dragon sovereign. Not only that but use the power of that dragon to form itself into a true dungeon whilst keeping an ’echo’ of the true being.
"Wow such a thing can happen?" Luna muttered to herself in surprise. By this point the other girls had also ventured down the small hill and had been arrayed around in front of the red dragon as he told his tale. They had all felt sorry for the old man, each able to feel the deep seated degree that still lingered within him shine through when he talked about those dark moments.
"Indeed it can, it is vanishingly rare for such an occurrence to happen, likely only happening as I had completely accepted my death, such a young dungeon had no will to be able to to forcefully overwhelm me and make me submit. I guess I subconsciously accepted what happened as penance for my sins." Vithrax lamented with a self deprecating tone.
Violet, hearing this once powerful dragon talk down about himself so much felt a strange sense of annoyance flair up within her, she tried to understand why she felt that way, eventually coming to an odd realisation. She felt that it was beneath such a being to act like this, that it disrespected dragons as a whole.
Whilst her race had been nearly whipped out, now mainly existing as only brainwashed pets for those that enslaved the remenants of her race. She and Rhyana, were two of the only free dragons in existence, for her to listen to the only other dragon she had ever truly met to be so depressed stirred something within Violet.
She was slightly unsure how to express that feeling so she quickly shared her thoughts with Luna, the two rapidly exchanged thoughts in the matter until they came to an idea that they thought might work.
"So you are just going to wallow here in your regret and never work to improve your situation?" Violet asked with a hint of venom in her voice.
Her words stunned not only Vithrax but also the other girls who looked at Violet as if she had lost her mind. Vithrax however, after his moment of shock looked at Violet with growing anger. "Watch your words little dragon." His words came out as a growl of warning.
"But are they not the truth? You stand her bemoaning your situation, yet all you do is sleep and wallow in misery. Not working towards setting things right." She piled on further.
"And what should I do then!" He bellowed, steam puffing out of his mouth as the temperature around him rose dramatically. "I am sick in this dungeon, I can do nothing!"
"No there is something that you can do." Violet stated calmly. That seemed to halt the older dragons rising rage as he looked at her curiously, obviously eager to hear whatever idea she had.
"You can help the next generation. I am the daughter of Moraznia, the princess of the dragon race and your sworn ward. I am here speaking assistance in growing stronger so that I can get revenge of those that caused her death. Will you aid me in my quest to enact this vengeance?"
A fire seemed to be suddenly lit in Vithrax’s eyes as Violet spoke, a bubble of excitement forming in the ancient dragon. "Will you work to recitfy your perci bed failures or will you sit here in this decrepit hole in the ground like a worm? Are you a worm? Or are you a dragon?"
That bubble of excitement turned into a burning fire of resolve as the red dragon positively burned with renewed determination after so many years of being forgotten.
"I will aid you Violet, The Last Wild Dragon and first Dragon of the Void." Vithrax spoke with a solemnity that reinforced his conviction in this task. "What is it that you require of me?"
Violet felt herself smile in satisfaction at his words, feeling a renewed sense of accomplishment. "Oh that is quite simple, I only need two things from you Vithrax."
"Fitst is the easiest, we need your help in defeating the boss of this floor, it is a powerful turtle beast that we will be unable to defeat by ourselves." She then paused long enough for the dragon to take in her words and nod in agreement.
"The second is also a simple matter. We simply need to take you back out of this dungeon!"
