Chapter 234: Searching for the Lords
Chapter 234: Searching for the Lords
"So how are we going to find the local beast lords?" Asked Susan, evidently onboard with the plan but curious as to how they will actually go about finding any of the local powerhouses.
"Umm..." Violet started, only to pause as she actually thought about how to go about compiling that task. "We can umm, just find them?" She finished with a slight frown on her face.
Luna groaned at her companions brilliant plan. Still even with its lackluster details it truly shouldn’t be all too hard to actually go about finding any powerful beasts, assuming that they weren’t hiding anyway. If they were then things may get slightly harder.
"Should we all return to our beast forms then?" Asked Rhyana, obviously quite eager to return to her large draconic form after being stuck as a humanoid for some time.
"Hmm. Yeah we may as well, will probabally be easer to convince any other beasts to work with us when in that form than in this form." Luna agreed to a smiling Rhyana and Violet, both of them eager to return to their natural forms.
"Yay!" Exclaimed the lightning dragon as her body was enveloped in a blue glow as she shifted back into her true form. This was shortly followed by a blue and purple flash from Luna and Violet respectively.
Olivia stood back watching the changes with a look of awe and shock, having only seen Violet’s true form she had not expected, or at least not been prepared to witness the other two girls transform into beasts themselves, especially not seeing another dragon with Rhyana.
Soon enough Olivia and Susan stood staring up at the towering form of 2 dragons and a giant Arctic leopard stretch themselves out as they once more got accustomed to their true forms.
"Ahh this feels nice to be back as a dragon! Being a small humanoid is no fun!" Exchlaimed Rhyana.
Only for Susan to speak up in response. "But you look so much cuter in that form, much easier to hug!" With that statement Olivia was able to witness her first ever dragon blushing in embarrassment.
Seeing her friend look so embarrassed drew a deep chuckle from Violet’s large maw, the ground rumbling slightly from the action and eliciting a slight yelp of surprise from the still stunned Olivia.
"Alright then let’s get going then." Said Luna as she initiated a mental bridge between them all, it was possible for her to speak verbally in her beast form but it was quite a bit more challenging then just using her telepathy skill.
From there the girls moved out, Susan quickly hopping up onto Rhyana’s back whilst Luna offered Olivia a ride as well. It took a bit of persuading, but eventually the human was convinced to jump up onto her back.
With all the small people now atop a beast the group was able to move with much greater efficiency. They sped through the forest, yet the longer they traveled the stranger it was, they did not see a single beast even after traveling for close to 2 hours.
Along with that the environment did not change in the slightest, the ground remained unnaturally flat, their was not a single river or stream that they passed by. It was beginning to get a bit of putting for the girls when they finally came across something new.
Before them the forest opened up into a clearing of sorts. Within which lay a depression in the ground leading to a large open cave.
Yet it was what the girls felt from this cave that made them perk up, it was the feeling of pressure that they felt from a powerful presence. Not quite at the level of the giant turtle that they had encountered the previous day, but still significantly stronger than any of them.
"Looks like this is what we were looking for." Stated Violet.
"How should we go about this?" Asked Susan as she lowered herself down from Rhyana’s back, with Olivia soon joining her down on the ground a moment later.
The girls all stood in front of the cave enterance, even the large dragons felt diminutive in front of the vast cavern enterance. It was large enough for both Violet and Rhyana to walk in side by dies with their wings extended, with room left over.
"Should we go inside? Or try to call out to it from out here?" Luna further inquired. "Based on how big this cave is, the beast inside must be massive."
She was not wrong either, as this cave was not entirely natural. Large gouges were visable all over the walls of the cavern, clearly showing where a beast of some kind had actively dug out, or expanded its lair. Based off the size of the claw marks in the ground it must be a decent bit larger than even Violet.
The presence remained potent yet stayed in a mostly passive state despite the girls not exactly trying to remain silent during this discussion and investigation.
"I say we just make some noise and try to draw it out. I don’t fancy invading it’s lair where it will have the advantage." Suggested Violet to the group.
"Hmm yeah I’m in favour of that too. Do we all make some noise or just one of us?"
"I’ll do it, and maybe you all should stand back a little bit?" Replied Violet, always happy to be the inciting individual.
Seeing that no one else objected to that, the girls began to move out of the depression around the cave enterance to give Violet some space. Once they were a sufficient distance away Violet took in a deep breath, paused for a moment and then let loose an Earth shaking roar as she allowed her presence to explode out.
Nothing happened for a prolonged moment after Violet’s roar died down. Then, in a sudden explosion of pressure and noise an answering roar rang out.
Violet felt herself being pushed back away from the cave enterance from the sheer pressure of the presence that solidified from the roar, a shiver running down her spine as she felt the power emanating from it.
Violet instinctively took several steps backwards from the cave enterance, yet her eyes never left the darkness of its depths.
THUD.
The sound of a footstep echoed out from deep within the cave.
THUD.
A second arrived, swiftly followed by another, and another as the great beast drew closer.
Then Violet, along with the other girls all felt a mind bridge latch onto them, it felt powerful and ancient.
"Who dared disturb my rest." The voice was male, low and gravely.
Then a figure emerged. First came a scaled snout, fire red in colour. Slowly emerging to reveal two large eyes, split like a cat and sharing the same fire red as the scales that surrounded it.
This led to a long neck that flowed into powerful shoulders and a massive body, 4 legs held the creature up and atop its back rested two massive wings that were currently folded back.
When it fully emerged from the cave the beast towered over Violet, its powerful body and presence dominating the surroundings.
Its wings extended and it let out another roar that shook the ground and caused Violet to stagger back in utter shock as she bore witness to a colossal fire red dragon.
