Chapter 648:
Chapter 648:
This woman... this woman...
Dirk Carter blurted out, "Talia?"
The woman in front of him looked almost exactly like Talia.
Why did he say only her face was exactly the same?
Because her entire vibe, her clothes, her style, were completely different from what Talia used to be.
Talia used to have dirty braids with all sorts of colored streaks.
But the woman in front of him now had shoulder-length hair, slightly wavy, with a mature woman's hairstyle.
Her ears weren't adorned with flashy earrings, just a single expensive-looking diamond earring.
The outfit was also different.
The previous spaghetti-strap tank top was now a formal women's blouse.
The denim mini-skirt had transformed into a classic black pencil skirt common in the workplace.
Besides that.
Her fishnet stockings were gone.
Her feet that used to sport flashy sneakers were now in sleek high heels.
A poised and professional look.
The woman took off her sunglasses.
She reached into her bag for a pair of rimless glasses, putting them on her nose.
She coolly asked, "Hello, who are you calling?"
"Talia, aren't you Talia?"
Dirk questioned back.
The woman smiled faintly and said, "Sorry, you've got the wrong person."
With that, she closed the car door, swayed her hips, and headed towards the Municipal Government Building.
Dirk felt a sudden jolt of doubt in his heart.
Could it be he really was mistaken? It shouldn't be, that face was clearly Talia's!
He quickly walked a few steps.
He came back to the woman's side and quietly asked, "Excuse me, do you have a sister or a twin who looks just like you?"
The woman suddenly paused.
She looked at Dirk and said, "Sir, isn't your way of hitting on someone a bit outdated?"
Hitting on someone?
Dirk was about to explain.
Then he saw Mayor Vincent's secretary, Briscoe Young, hurrying out of the Municipal Government Building.
Seeing Dirk, he looked a bit puzzled.
First, he greeted him, then turned to the woman and said, "Ms. Vincent, the leadership is already waiting for you inside."
"Alright, I know,"
the woman nodded slightly, without looking back, and followed Briscoe Young into the Municipal Government Building.
"Isn't she quite pretty?"
Suddenly, a man's voice came from behind him.
Dirk turned around abruptly, seeing a face with a somewhat lecherous expression, his gaze also fixed on the woman's back.
"Uh... yeah, she's indeed quite pretty."
Dirk said.
The man chuckled, stretched out his hand to outline an "S-shaped" curve, and said, "Curvy in all the right places, and sways her hips when she walks. Wow, just so tempting. Imagine what it would be like to have her in bed, oh my!"
After fantasizing for a moment.
He looked at Dirk and asked, "Are you new here?"
Dirk nodded.
The man continued to ask, "Which department are you in?"
"Uh... the Municipal Government Office."
Dirk replied.
Hearing this, the man got excited.
He eagerly extended his hand to Dirk and said, "We're colleagues then; I also work in the government office. I'm Bradford Lewis, working in the Conferences Section. How about you?"
"I..."
Dirk hesitated slightly.
Bradford immediately understood and said, "You just started and haven't been assigned yet, right? No worries, come on, I'll take you inside."
He finished speaking.
Enthusiastically grabbing Dirk's arm, he led him into the Municipal Government Building.
"Colleague Bradford, is that woman also part of our municipal government?"
Dirk asked curiously.
Bradford smiled, leaned closer to Dirk's ear, and said, "You like her, don't you?"
"No, I'm just asking..."
"Asking means you like her, come on, we're all men here. I openly admit I like this woman a lot. Sometimes at night, when I'm comforting myself, I imagine her naked in my mind. But alas, folks like us at the bottom could never have a woman like that beneath us."
Bradford said, both yearningly and regrettably.
"You still haven't told me who she is!"
Dirk mumbled again.
Bradford said, "She's Eve Vincent, a lawyer and a partner at Rexton City's Henglen Law Firm. Plus, she's also Mayor Vincent's daughter."
"What? She's Fabian Vincent's daughter?"
Dirk stopped dead in his tracks and asked.
Upon hearing this, Bradford looked around nervously.
He exclaimed, "Man, what's your position compared to Mayor Vincent! You lack work experience if you're addressing him by name. How old are you?"
"Thirty,"
Dirk answered.
Bradford drew a long breath and said, "No wonder you speak so unreservedly. I'm 31, a year older than you. In the Municipal Government Office, I'll watch out for you, but you must promise me not to speak carelessly, got it?"
"Got it."
Dirk responded.
"If you got it, call me Brother Bradford."
Bradford patted his chest and said.
"Brother Bradford."
Dirk called out.
The sound was music to Bradford's ears.
He affectionately ruffled Dirk's hair.
And said, "Smart kid, mention Brother Bradford's name and it's useful in the office."
"Brother Bradford, how many years have you worked at Rexton City Government Office?"
Dirk asked with interest.
Bradford pondered for a moment and said, "How should I put it? I passed the civil service exam at 25, so it's been roughly six years."
"And you're still just a staff member after six years?"
Dirk asked.
Bradford sneered and said, "You're just a newbie in the political world, totally clueless. Do you honestly think politics is so easy? Six years is just the beginning; without some family connections, where could you possibly get? Brother Bradford's sharp eyes rarely get it wrong, and for someone like you, six years might not even get you to my level. I'm not boasting here; in two more years, I might even be a deputy section chief in the Conferences Section."
"Well, congratulations in advance, Brother Bradford."
Dirk smiled and said.
At this moment.
They had reached the ground floor of the Municipal Government Building.
Bradford pointed at the building and said, "This building has eleven levels; the top floor is the city's meeting room, but people of our rank never get there. The tenth floor is the mayor's office and reception rooms, with deputy mayors and various departments below."
"What about our government office?"
Dirk asked.
Bradford pointed to the higher floors.
He said, "The government office is a big department here; the entire ninth floor is our workspace. Come on, I'll take you upstairs."
He finished speaking.
Very enthusiastically leading Dirk into the elevator.
Since it was lunchtime.
There weren't many people coming and going.
When the elevator reached the ninth floor.
Bradford led Dirk into the government office's work area.
"Where is the Secretary-General's office?"
Dirk asked.
