Chapter 284: Lost In Each Other

Chapter 284: Lost In Each Other

Xavier leaned against a pillar, shaking his head with amusement. Cali stood beside him, cheering them like hooligans, while Luna clapped softly to the rhythm.

Even the elders looked pleased.

Arthur and Liliana stood together, smiling like proud parents. Amon looked fondly at Elara, but scoffed the next second upon seeing Aegon.

Beside him, Samuel drank with a grin on his face. It wasn’t a grand royal celebration he was familiar with, just a small gathering. Yet the warmth in the courtyard made it feel fuller than any palace hall.

Samuel wished time would stop here so he could spend eternity in this peaceful atmosphere. This was more intoxicating and addictive than any alcohol he had ever tasted.

He wanted to drown in it, but the sense of emptiness, as if something was missing, gave him clarity. Arnold wasn’t here. His friend who had accompanied him in his worst moments wasn’t here.

He was fighting his battle somewhere else. A battle to save humanity, a battle to save this world from ending. The gravity of the situation wasn’t lost on Samuel.

However, being in this celebration strengthened his resolve and motivated him to face the troubles brewing beneath this peace.

He wanted this to last longer, and for that, his friend was already working hard. And he had to do his part. Years of being an Emperor had exhausted him, but now it was washed away by the warmth provided by every single individual in this celebration.

Samuel grinned at Aegon and Elara as they were lost in each other’s eyes. They were just kids who shouldn’t be involved in any of the bigger problems.

As their elder, he needed to shoulder the burden and responsibilities.

’I will do it happily for this.’

Something changed within him that day. A profound change, perhaps. But when a Demigod like him changed, the world remembered.

The world knew of it.

Meanwhile, at the piano, Xiu’s head bobbed slightly with the rhythm as she played, the alcohol getting the better of her.

At one point, she missed a note.

She scowled.

Then immediately corrected it with a flourish so smooth that nobody could tell it had even happened.

"Ha," she whispered proudly to herself.

The melody rose again.

And in the center of the room, Aegon and Elara continued to dance, completely immersed in the music, in the moment, and in each other.

Then the melody slowed down, turning soft and tranquil. The couple stopped dancing with bigger movements and simply leaned against each other, swaying left and right with the beat.

Neither said anything, simply enjoying the closeness and warmth of each other. They forgot the world around them, forgot the music, nothing else remained except for each other.

Nobody disturbed them.

After what felt like an eternity, Aegon opened his eyes and found a beautiful pair of emerald eyes looking back at him. He smiled. "How long were you watching me?"

"Days. Months. Or years, perhaps," Elara answered, leaning against his chest. "Have I told you how much I love your eyes?"

"Not really," Aegon hummed and said. "We got a pair of odd eyes, don’t we? Emerald and golden. What a combination."

"It looks beautiful together," Elara smiled at him.

"I’m wondering," Aegon pulled her a bit closer and whispered, "what eyes will our kids get? Golden or emerald? Or perhaps a combination of both?"

Elara punched him lightly, her face burying into his chest. "Don’t talk nonsense."

"Wait! You don’t plan to have kids with me?" Aegon gasped in fake surprise. "Are you playing with me, Miss Elara? Are you going to discard me after enjoying my body?"

This time, she hit a bit harder and growled, "Don’t even think about that. I’m not leaving you. Ever. And neither am I letting you leave me."

"Alas! So I’ve signed a contract now," Aegon smiled and kissed her head. "I guess I’m bound to you for my whole life now."

"I am too," she giggled softly.

Aegon wrapped both of his arms around her waist and asked, "Are you excited for tomorrow’s date? Or rather today’s? It’s already midnight."

"Very!" Elara squealed. "I worked extra hard on my training. You better make it worth it."

"Haha! Yes, Your Highness. I’ll give you the world’s best date," Aegon said, though he was a bit nervous.

He had some plans, but he didn’t know if Elara would like them. What if he messed up badly? He certainly didn’t want her to remember their first date as terrible.

Just then, the melody of the piano stopped, so he turned around to look at Xiu. There she was, sprawled over the piano in deep sleep. In this state, even gods couldn’t wake her up.

They also stopped as Aegon shouted, "Aunt, take her to some room. As for the others, you can go home. We don’t house guests here, and the party is over."

"As an Emperor, I’m taking this palace from you," Samuel was quick to announce. "So I can stay here as long as I want."

"I’m filing a complaint against you," Aegon clicked his tongue.

"To whom? Myself? See you at court," Samuel snorted.

Aegon rolled his eyes. Well, it wasn’t like he expected the party to end.

’It is just getting started.’

...

For the whole night, the party continued as nobody wanted it to end. The adults found an escape in it from their stressful lives, while the youngsters had met after quite some time, so they wanted to enjoy each other’s company.

They played many games, talked nonsense about each other and about other things. Each had many things to say, so boring was the last word for them.

By the time morning grew closer, the youngsters disappeared, taking their leave silently. Cali and Luna went with Elara somewhere secret, while Xavier dragged Aegon into the palace.

Inside, he spent his time planning the date, or rather confirming his plans. Xavier helped him as well, as he boasted that he wanted to be the godfather of Aegon’s kids. That did earn him a tight smack of refusal, but he wasn’t discouraged.

"I’ll pick a random beggar over you. At least my kid won’t have an idiot as a godfather."
