Chapter 283: Dance
Chapter 283: Dance
"Love, will you allow me the honour to dance with you?"
Aegon was on his knees, looking upto Elara with a sweet smile. Her face, however, was turning red in being proposed before so many people. Yet, the rapid movement of her ears gave her emotions away.
While her friends cheered for her on the sides, she smiled and gave her hand to him without any hesitation. She whispered softly, "it is yours. Forever."
"That’s what I like to hear," Aegon grabbed her hand and stood up. Slowly, he took her to the stage...which wasn’t there a few minutes ago, but he didn’t care about the details. Not now, atleast.
He helped her get up, even though she didn’t need any help. It was just a gesture and Elara was clearly pleased with it. They stopped in the middle and he finally had a good look at her.
She had changed into a long Emerald green gown that suited her perfectly in every way. Long flowing sleeves, golden leaf embroidery, silk layers with translucent fabric. Everything looked so beautiful on her.
Her smooth blonde hair rounded up in a bun, a few strands falling on her face like a waterfall. Beautiful emerald eyes that he could never forget.
"You look so breathtaking," Aegon said, kissing her hand gently. "I can’t take my eyes off. You’re reminding me why I fell for you so quickly."
"You fell for my appearance first?" She asked, forgetting completely that she was surrounded by so many people.
In her eyes, all she saw were the golden orbs of the man she loved so dearly. There was nothing else in this world, only and his voice echoing in her mind.
"What can I say?" Aegon smiled and said. "I feel for everything."
He turned his head and said, "Xiu, you can start."
Looking back at her, he added, "I don’t know how she’ll play, but try to bear with it, okay?"
"It’s Aunt Xiu," Elara giggled softly. "Let’s trust her. I’m sure she’ll be cool even while being drunk."
"Can’t argue with that."
Just then, the hall fell into a brief hush as Xiu staggered toward the piano.
Her steps weren’t exactly straight. One moment she drifted slightly left, the next she corrected too much to the right, nearly bumping into the stool before catching herself.
Seeing that, Arthur let out a quiet laugh.
Xiu glared at him,"I meant to do that."
Her words slurred just enough to betray the amount of wine she had consumed tonight. Or rather the quality since even extraordinary wines would find it hard to make her drunk.
Arthur raised his hand in surrender, knowing very well it wasn’t wise to offend his sister in this state.
She dropped onto the stool with a soft thump and cracked her knuckles dramatically, swaying a little while she did so.
"You two better dance well," she muttered loudly enough for everyone to hear. "I’m not wasting my genius on bad footwork."
Aegon only chuckled, while Elara covered her mouth, giggling softly.
Behind Xiu, a few musicians, violinists and a cellist, exchanged nervous glances before preparing their instruments. They had never played along with a drunkard, but if they messed up here, their careers might as well be over. They just hoped it was their best performance.
Xiu lifted her fingers. For a moment, she squinted at the keys as if they were moving.
"...Why are there so many of you?" she muttered.
Then she shrugged nonchalantly,"Whatever."
Her fingers descended on the piano and the first note echoed through the hall.
Clear. Precise. Perfect.
The slight chaos from moments earlier disappeared as if it had never existed. Her hands moved across the keys with effortless control, weaving a melody that flowed like calm water under moonlight.
The violinists, though surprise, joined seconds later, their soft strings blending seamlessly with the piano.
A quiet murmur spread among the guests. Even drunk... Xiu was terrifyingly good.
Xavier folded his arms with a low whistle. He muttered, "That’s my Aunt! Show them the power of alcohol."
Cali nodded slowly. "She can barely walk straight."
Luna leaned slightly forward, watching the stage with sparkling eyes. "But listen to that."
Meanwhile, Aegon placed one hand around Elara’s slender waist. The other gently held her hand. Their fingers intertwined naturally, as if they had done this countless times before.
"Ready?" he asked quietly.
Elara smiled. "I was born ready."
The music swelled softly as they started moving.
Aegon guided her into the first step, his movements smooth and controlled. Xiu’s brutal training sessions flashed briefly through his mind, hours of corrections, endless practice, and several times where she had thrown shoes at him for stepping wrong.
While she loved him with all her heart, she didn’t ease things for him. Especially in their training.
Apparently, it had paid off.
Elara followed effortlessly as well. So Graceful. So Light. He was mesmerized looking at her.
Every motion carried the elegance expected from someone raised within Elf royalty. Her feet glided across the floor as if she barely touched it, the emerald gown flowing around her with every turn.
Aegon spun her gently.
The fabric of her dress fanned out like a blooming flower before settling again as she stepped back into him.
For a few seconds, neither of them noticed the people watching.
The world narrowed around them. Only Music, Movement and the warmth between them. That was all that remained.
"You’re better than I expected," Elara teased softly as they moved through another turn.
"I had a harsh teacher," Aegon replied.
Across the room, Xiu snorted loudly without missing a single note.
"Damn right you did," she muttered, still playing flawlessly.
Elara laughed.
The sound blended into the music beautifully.
Aegon pulled her slightly closer as the melody slowed, guiding her through a softer sequence of steps. Their movements matched the rhythm naturally, like two currents flowing in the same direction.
Her emerald eyes locked onto his golden ones.
"You’re staring again," she whispered, redness creeping on her cheeks.
"I warned you already."
His hand tightened slightly around hers.
"I can’t stop."
She blushed deeply as her ears flicked again.
Around them, their friends watched with wide smiles.
