100 Ways to Solve a Murder

Chapter 87: Christmas Eve

Chapter 87: Christmas Eve

Marco laid on the sofa that evening, dozing off an hour after dinner. He was tired from his day at work. Both in his day job and part-time at Jackson Detectives. Cases didn’t care if it was the holidays, after all, oddly enough adultery cases increase during the Christmas season.

He woke from his nap with the sound of Lisa’s voice calling him, her tone was urgent and it sent him to alert mode immediately. He ran towards the source, to the kitchen. And he scanned his wife, checking if she was in any sort of danger.

Seeing that she was unscathed, he relaxed a little. Till it registered on him that she was on the phone, and the expression on her face he knew something bad had happened.

"What is it?" He subconsciously clenched his jaw.

Lisa shifted towards him, she was just tucking Liz in bed when the phone rang and she answered. Anna was on the other line, simple words were exchanged. Not much explanation, just information. The call ended quickly, and she returned the handset to its base.

"That was Anna, she said....Sam, she’s been abducted," she stated, and Marco’s eyes widened at the words.

....

An hour ago, December 31sT ||4:35PM|| Cardiff

Sam sat on the bed, facing the wide windows of her room. In the upper corner was a CCTV blinking red, recording everything.

Then the blinking stopped.

And the camera slowly powered down

She sat in the silence, in the darkness of her blindness. Behind her, she heard the door creak open, but she did not turn. What for? She cannot see it.

A pregnant pause filled the room, and the hair at the back of her neck rose...whoever it was, was watching her.

Moments after, she felt a hand on her left shoulder, a man’s hand. She could tell based on the size and the weight of it. Most of all, it didn’t have what people call a woman’s touch, the innate gentleness of a woman’s hand. No, this was rough.

Then she felt a prick on her neck and she lost consciousness.

...

Levi sat on his sofa, building card towers as per usual when he felt a familiar presence. The scent gave her away immediately, but Levi refused to acknowledge her. He was still pissed at her.

"She’s gone." Those words sent chills down his spine, and the tower collapsed on the table.

He whiplashed towards the platinum blond, standing by his door.

The older Jackson knew she had to tell him personally that things had gone absolutely wrong.

Levi gritted his teeth, and his eyes narrowed at the woman.

"What do you mean, she’s gone? She can’t be gone, she’s under your watch, Anna!" Levi seethed in disbelief.

And as if on cue, Marco enters the room.

The bearded man came over immediately, just grabbing his jacket and wallet. He knew he was needed.

Levi took note of Marco, "You informed him, of course," he commented.

"You do work best with an assistant. And I have more pressing matters in hand." Anna explained, Marco and Levi waited for her to explain. Her manicured hands reached over her throbbing sinuses, she’s getting a wave of migraine from the stress that things aren’t going as planned.

She turns to the two and she breaks into a fake smile,

"10 international hitmen had started to move across London, searching for her," she said.

"Ivan," Levi replied in realization, standing up.

"Yes, he had decided to take matters to his own hands. After we lost her an hour ago." Anna explained.

"YOU! Lost her." Levi corrected his face inches from her. Staring her down, clearly displeased.

Marco watched the siblings, wondering what they meant.

"What’s happening? Can someone please enlighten me." Marco asked the two Jackson, clearly up at each other’s throat.

Levi shifted to the bearded man for a moment but his glare fell back on the platinum blond.

"Her so-called suicide, her getting institutionalized, is part of their elaborate plan," Levi informed

Anna rolled her eyes, crossing her arms, "Her, plan baby brother. Let’s not forget that. Her plan." Anna replied with the same ferocity in her voice.

Levi scowled down at her,

"A Kamikaze plan! You should have never agreed with it!" he yelled,

The ruckus they were making was enough to wake Mrs. Whitehall from her slumber downstairs, holding a metal bat in hand she climbed up the stairs. Ready to rescue the slicked blond if the need arose.

Only it was Anna and Levi, and they were having a domestic.

Anna turned to the old flabby woman on the stairs,

"Go back to sleep, Mrs. Whitehall." She advised.

Anna turned back to Levi and said,

"We both know I took every precaution necessary, and she would have gone through with it, alone, if I didn’t agree," Anna stated.

Levi glared at her regardless that he knew his sister was right. Yes, Sam would have gone through with her plan alone if that’s what it took.

Marco furrowed his brows in confusion, "Whose plan? What are you two talking about?" he asked.

Mrs. Whitehall stopped by the door of his flat and looked at the psychologist,

"What’s--going on, Levi?" The older woman asked, concerned.

There was a staredown between the two Jackson, questions were ignored...left unanswered.

Anna tilted her chin, "time is vital, Levi. Will you be actively participating now?" she asked in clenched teeth.

Levi’s eyes bounce from his sister to the old woman,

"Sam had been abducted, Mrs. Whitehall and we’re going to find her," he said, grabbing his coat and running down the stairs.

Anna and Marco followed him out the door to the car waiting for them. Anna provided all the facts she acquired from the wretched call she received from her people.

"Can someone tell me what’s going on?" Marco asked, confused nobody was answering his inquiries. They were taken to a Helipad, where a Helicopter was waiting for them. Levi stepped out of the car and Marco followed after him, Anna called his attention.

"Do me a favor, Marco. It’s a rarity, but be his voice of reason. Emotion is clouding his mind." Anna said, earning a knowing nod from the bearded man.

Yes, of course, he’d stay. He was his friend after all.
