Chapter 1725 - 1722: I Don’t Eat Meat

Chapter 1725 - 1722: I Don’t Eat Meat

The reason Lin Tian frowned was because from the moment Wu Xiuluo appeared until now, her emotions hadn’t fluctuated at all. You had to know, neither Lin Tian nor Xiao Manxuan had told her that Ning Wenbin would be coming too.

Even when she saw that Ning Wenbin was there, she didn’t react at all. Just how deep did this person hide her thoughts, or rather, she simply didn’t care in the slightest.

Of course, there was another possibility—that she could foresee Ning Wenbin showing up. But that was way too far-fetched; even Lin Tian himself didn’t believe it.

"Since everyone’s here, let’s order." Lin Tian didn’t keep overthinking it and instead made a suggestion. Four people just sitting there doing nothing made the atmosphere way too awkward.

"I’ll do it." Ning Wenbin volunteered and stood up to press the call button.

After a moment, that same waitress from before walked in, put the menu on the table, and politely asked, "What would you like to order?"

Wu Xiuluo didn’t even look at the menu. She pushed it directly in front of Xiao Manxuan and smiled slightly. "Mr. Xiao, you order first." This was one of her rare smiles, probably to thank Xiao Manxuan for agreeing to appreciate the guqin.

Xiao Manxuan also didn’t look at the menu and pushed it in front of Lin Tian instead. "Lin Tian, you order."

This attitude of putting the man by her side first made Ning Wenbin feel a stab of envy. He thought, if only Wu Xiuluo would treat him like that. Of course, he was just daydreaming.

The two ladies deferred to each other and the menu ended up in front of Lin Tian. Lin Tian wasn’t the indecisive type. He opened it, glanced briefly, and decisively ordered, "I’ll have an asparagus with bacon, and a cream soup."

"I’ll have a sirloin steak, medium well, and a cream soup." Ning Wenbin also ordered straightforwardly, then the menu was passed back to Wu Xiuluo.

Ning Wenbin smiled as he recommended to Wu Xiuluo, "The sirloin steak here is pretty good, you could give it a try."

"I don’t eat meat, thanks." Wu Xiuluo rejected him outright, then without even opening the menu, said, "A fruit salad."

"I’ll have the same as Senior Sister Xiuluo." Xiao Manxuan said. She had already eaten back at the dorm; this was basically just ordering something for form’s sake. After the waitress finished taking their orders, she left.

Something stirred in Lin Tian’s mind. He looked at Wu Xiuluo and casually asked, "Senior, are you a vegetarian?" Ning Wenbin was also very curious. This was the first time he’d learned that Wu Xiuluo didn’t eat meat.

A lot of girls don’t eat meat to lose weight, but vegetarians are different; they never eat meat.

"I’m not a vegetarian, I just don’t like meat." Wu Xiuluo replied, her expression still indifferent.

"Haha, eating vegetarian is great. Eating vegetarian is good for your complexion and detoxing." Ning Wenbin praised her with a grin. Basically, as long as it involved Wu Xiuluo, he’d praise it.

Who knew whether, if he really ended up living with Wu Xiuluo in the future, he could stand a life with no meat dishes. Of course, Lin Tian was only hypothesizing; the odds of Ning Wenbin and Wu Xiuluo actually getting together were probably smaller than winning the lottery.

"Senior, let me ask something that’s not exactly personal. Last time you suddenly announced you were joining the Mysterious Association and taking charge of it. That doesn’t really fit your style." Lin Tian asked with a face full of curiosity, though his tone stayed pretty casual.

"Yeah, Xiuluo, isn’t the Mysterious Association all about gods and ghosts and that kind of thing? Girls are supposed to be scared of that." Ning Wenbin chimed in curiously.

"Who says girls are scared of gods and ghosts? I’m not." Xiao Manxuan immediately refuted, looking quite unconvinced. The little girl had seen vampires, Demon Exorcists, Ancient Martial Artists, and Gu Cultivators; she even had a Gu Worm of her own. Honestly, she really wasn’t afraid.

Wu Xiuluo looked at Xiao Manxuan and smiled. "Xuanxuan’s right. Ghost gods are just like that; what’s there to be afraid of? Heaven, earth, and man make the three talents; humans are the true rulers between heaven and earth. If there are ghosts, they should be afraid of people."

Lin Tian’s eyes flashed as he said, "Senior’s view of ghost gods is quite unique. Could it be you’ve seen them?"

"Junior is so interested in the supernatural; could it be you’ve seen them?" Wu Xiuluo met Lin Tian’s gaze and calmly shot the question back.

I really have seen them, but if I said it out loud, probably no one would believe me. It’s just that this Wu Xiuluo really was impervious, her words sharp enough that you couldn’t keep questioning her.

But this was Lin Tian we’re talking about; his face was thicker than a city wall. He didn’t avoid her gaze either and continued to meet her eyes. "Senior still hasn’t answered my question. Instead you threw one at me."

"It’s just that I haven’t had much to do lately, and I suddenly got interested. If you’re interested too, you can join the Mysterious Association. I’ll make you vice president." Wu Xiuluo replied very cleanly, even offering Lin Tian an option.

"Maybe next time. I’ve already joined enough clubs." Lin Tian declined lightly.

The probing in their conversation thus ended its first round. Xiao Manxuan knew that Lin Tian was testing her, but only Ning Wenbin was sitting there looking completely puzzled, thinking, how did we end up talking about all this spooky stuff on a date? I didn’t prepare for this at all.

At this moment, the waitress walked in and served each of their dishes. Probably because it was his first "date" with Wu Xiuluo, Ning Wenbin was too excited. When he cut his steak, the pieces almost flew off the plate.

Lin Tian could only shake his head as he watched. He knew very well that this guy probably really did like Wu Xiuluo. If he were just playing around, all those rich second-generation tricks for picking up girls and sweet talk would have been rolled out already. Only when you truly like someone do you end up this flustered and clumsy.

After that, Ning Wenbin talked on and off, trying to have a deeper conversation with Wu Xiuluo. But Wu Xiuluo barely spoke the entire time. It was obvious she wasn’t really into it, or rather, she simply didn’t want to have any deep exchange with him.

Lin Tian and Xiao Manxuan glanced at each other and both saw the helplessness in the other’s eyes.

The food wasn’t the main point. Before she even finished her fruit salad, Wu Xiuluo took the initiative to bring up the guqin. "Mr. Xiao, I’m about done eating. Why don’t we take a look at the guqin?"

Xiao Manxuan looked at Lin Tian. Lin Tian gave a slight nod. Ning Wenbin could only call the waitress over to have the dishes cleared away.

Lin Tian placed the long wooden case on the table, then opened the lid. The guqin was revealed before the four of them. The last time it had triggered that strange energy, it had returned to normal afterward and hadn’t shown any other anomalies.

Looking at it now, it still seemed no different from any other guqin, as if it were just an instrument. But Lin Tian knew very well it wasn’t an ordinary instrument.

"Senior, what do you think?" Lin Tian deliberately asked.

Wu Xiuluo didn’t answer. Instead, she reached out and gently ran her hand along the body of the qin, her eyes closing slightly. Her long eyelashes trembled faintly, as if she were sensing something.

Lin Tian had observed it with his super vision, but hadn’t found anything unusual. He seriously doubted that Wu Xiuluo could find anything just by touching it like that.

The three of them didn’t disturb her. After a full minute of sensing, Wu Xiuluo finally opened her eyes. Her expression seemed unchanged, but Lin Tian noticed a subtle difference in her gaze.

"Ning Wenbin, go out for a bit." The first thing Wu Xiuluo said after opening her eyes was to tell Ning Wenbin to leave.
