Chapter 536 - 539 Why Did You Keep it From Me? _1
"Impossible, why would Jingru do such a thing?" Bai Wuqing’s sudden cold demeanor was enough to make one shudder.
Gu Shaocheng shrugged, patted his shoulder, and comforted him: "Maybe it’s just a coincidence."
But Wuqing couldn’t believe in such a coincidence. He didn’t utter a word for a long while, his expression was a mixture of surprise and anger, relieved and yet felt fooled like a fool.
"I have some matters to attend to and have to leave temporarily. You can think carefully about how you’re going to handle this situation. We’ll take my flight back to E city later."
Looking at his phone to check the time, he went over to Chenxing and instructed, "Stay with Jingru in the hospital for a while. I’ll be gone for a bit and I’ll be back in two hours."
"Does it involve a lead about mom?"
He nodded, wrapped an arm around her back and planted a kiss, "Behave yourself in the hospital, don’t give me any worries."
"Off you go, I never cause trouble."
Chenxing half-pushed him to the elevator. She waved as he stepped inside, "Bye..."
Back at the entrance of the ward, she sat on the bench chatting with Jingru’s secretary.
Her gaze landed on Brother Wuqing and she called for him but he seemed not to hear, walking straight into the room, locking the door behind him.
He pulled up a chair next to the bed and sat down, lost in his thoughts for a long time.
Jingru turned in her sleep, her arm hanging off the bed. He adjusted the covers for her and looked up to the hanging IV bag – half of the fluid left.
She lifted her eyes to look at him and closed them again in contentment.
"Jingru," his deep voice echoed next to her ear.
Thus she opened her eyes again.
"Have you ever kept any secrets from me over the years?" He stared into her eyes, as if trying to see into her heart.
His complex gaze left her feeling perplexed. Her body tensed up at his words.
"In life there are countless small matters. It wouldn’t be realistic to say that I’ve never kept anything from you." Jingru tried to keep the mood light. "Why are you asking this all of a sudden?"
"I mean big things." He didn’t know how to phrase his concern.
He was eager for answers but also feared messing things up.
"Our company’s sales dropped by 10% last month so I won’t have any days off for the next three months. But I told you our sales rose by five points and that we could have a relaxing holiday during the New Year and travel together, does this count as a big thing?"
He locked eyes with her, leaning forward slightly to close the distance, his voice a tender blend of gentleness and pain: "Why didn’t you tell me? You don’t need to work so hard for money, I’m capable enough to support you."
"I am my father’s only daughter. I can’t let the company he built with his own hands be ruined under my watch."
They’ve argued about this very issue multiple times throughout the past with no resolution. Wuqing wasn’t in the mood to argue about her company at this moment. His hand clenched beneath his suit, "Jingru, your secretary told me that you had gone to Toronto. Did something happen at your aunt’s house there? Did someone go missing? Do you need my help?"
Actually, what he wanted to ask more was: Jingru, is Jiajia the son you gave birth to for me? Why did you hide it from me?
