Chapter 1036 - 1039: She Is His Last Sanctuary 3
During that phase, the Gu Family was a jungle where the strong preyed on the weak. Everyone wanted to remove any potential heirs who had a chance to inherit the Gu Family’s assets. Consequently, the most capable members of the family met with misfortune. If not for such circumstances, it would have been impossible for a bastard like him to be brought into the household by Grandfather. That position, who wouldn’t want it? Who wouldn’t climb over a mountain of corpses to reach it?

When Chenxing brought his mother back, the rain had already stopped.
The weather was neither gloomy nor sunny, and the wind felt slightly cool on the skin.
Gu Shaocheng was half-reclining on a sun lounger, holding a cup of top-quality Tieguanyin tea, with a book about pregnancy resting on his knees. He was wearing a light-colored modern Zhongshan suit, embodying the epitome of idle comfort.
Next to him, Hua Hua was sprawled on a single-seater sofa, crossing her legs and ostentatiously wearing sunglasses, chatting about something or other. He stretched out his leg and gave Hua Hua a light, neither gentle nor rough, kick.
"Hey, little sister-in-law is back," said Hua Hua, dodging and speaking at the same time.
Gu Shaocheng turned his head to look, put down his teacup, placed the book on a low table beside him, and walked over to Chenxing, steadying his mother-in-law who, although her mind was muddled, always had a slight smile on her lips every time she saw him, indicating a close bond, "Was the journey smooth? Our mother didn’t give you any hard time, did she?"
Chenxing shook his head, guiding his mother into the inner room and letting the nurse who followed take care of her.
Gu Shaocheng was about to follow when someone came to report that Gu Buyu had traveled a long distance from City A to bring him a gift. He laughed upon hearing this, but as an elder was visiting to give him a gift during the Mid-Autumn Festival, it would be impolite not to show his face, he waved his hand, "Let’s go, let’s meet him."
Hua Hua glanced at her departing big brother and then at Chenxing, who was in the inner room. Finally, she comfortably stretched out on the sun lounger that her brother had just vacated, which still retained the warmth of his body. She didn’t usually drink tea, preferring coffee, but now she took an interested sip of the tea her brother had left halfway finished.
After settling her mother, Chenxing came back to find only Hua Hua there. She looked around in all directions, and Hua Hua said from the side: "Stop looking, brother was just called away."
"Oh," Chenxing said, sitting next to Hua Hua and eating the fruit on the low table, "Hua Hua, you’re all by yourself, why don’t you join us for the Mid-Autumn Festival tonight?"
Hua Hua pushed the sunglasses up on her head, glanced at her with a slight smile, "Sure, big brother just mentioned we’d spend the evening together. Chenxing, I want to ask you something."
"Hmm? What is it?"
"Has Shaocheng been unwell lately?"
Chenxing pursed her lips, then shook her head, "No, he’s in good health."
"You better not lie to me."
"Why would I lie to you? Who told you that Shaocheng is unwell?" Chenxing asked.
Hua Hua chuckled softly, pushing her sunglasses back down, leaning over to pick a grape from the fruit plate, peeling and eating it, "Just a wild guess, it’s good if nothing’s wrong."
Chenxing took a deep, silent breath. Actually, Hua Hua really did care about Shaocheng, but the fact that she asked, could it mean she heard some rumors? Chenxing pursed her lips, pondering, while Hua Hua beside her had already stood up, yawning, "I was up all night playing games, I’m dead tired. Chenxing, could I use the bedroom to lie down for a bit? Wake me up for dinner."
