Moving Out

"I just found out I was adopted," Jason began, and Julia sat up on the bed surprised by the news.

"What it means is nothing here belongs to me. It also means I have to step down as the heir and also means I have to leave everything. I am going out into the world like any other person to struggle and make it," Jason began.

"I know I forced you to move in with me by getting my guards to pick you up. My very presence, I know, frightens you and that made you do things you would rather not if given a choice. I came to tell you that you are free to go where you will be safe and never have to put up with me. I treated you badly from the beginning, and I am sorry," Jason apologized.

"James will take over, and he will make life difficult for you if you stay here. I will ensure the company pays you this month's salary, add it to the salaries you have received so far and make a living for yourself," Jason added, and Julia's eyes became tearer, realizing what his words meant.

They may not have started well, but there was something about Jason that made Julia want to be with him. She may have been scared of him and that was a reaction to how they met and the things he did to her, but staying with him, she had seen another side of him. A side of him that draws her closer to him.

"I don't have anywhere to go. I lost my mum and have no father. You are my only family now," Julia said. "From my payslips, I know I have enough money in my account. If we combine our resources, we can do something. Please don't leave me, you are all I have," she said, her voice trembling.

"I love you, Jason," Julia said before she could stop herself, making Jason turn to look at her sitting on the bed.

Julia's words hit Jason's heart, and he positioned himself on the bed in a more comfortable way. Her sad face with tears streaming down hit him hard in his heart. Jason cupped the side of Julia's face in his palm, wiping her tears with his thump.

"Please, don't send me away. Family stick together. You were there for me when my world fell apart. How can I abandon you now that it is your world that is falling apart," Julia said and placed her hand over Jason's hand which was still cupping her face.

"You gave me a home and became my family when I lost mine. Please don't send me away, give me a chance to give you a family too," Julia pleaded and Jason accepted.

Jason could not acknowledge Julia's confession of love for him, but it did move him to kiss her, and he hugged her tightly afterward. Julia wrapped her arms around Jason, her tears soaking his suit. He freed himself from the hug after a while.

"You can come with me. I have a few things I need to take care of before we leave this city," Jason said, and Julia nodded.

Jason called for an emergency meeting and informed the staff of the current development, with little to no details about what had contributed to the sudden change of ownership and why he was stepping down as Haward's heir and CEO to the company. A lot of the workers immediately became sad. He handed over everything to the board of directors, ensuring they had everything to manage the company and its branches across the world in his absence. He was soon done with his handing over, and he left the company with his six guards back to the apartment at 3 p.m.

Arriving at the apartment, he ran into James at the entrance. James stopped and looked at him and his gaze shifted to Julia, who quickly hid behind Jason.

"I wish she was part of the things I could take away from you," James said with a smirk, and Jason frowned.

"I will find you, and it will be easy now that I have the power," James said, looking at Julia before leaving the apartment using the elevator.

"Just ignore him," Jason said to Julia, who was now shaking like a leaf.

They entered the apartment, and he went straight into his room and packed his stuff and Julia also did the same. They both descended the staircase with a bag each but ran into Mrs Haward.

"The bag you are holding has the Haward label on it. So, you have to leave it behind," Mrs Haward said, and Mirenda, who had just entered the living room, raised an eyebrow upon hearing what her mother said.

"You can fold your clothing and put it in the trash bags," Mrs Haward said and handed Jason a trash bag with a smile. She was enjoying what was happening.

Jason stared at the trash bag in Mrs Haward's hand and shifted his gaze to her face. Without saying a word, he held Julia's hand and left the apartment, leaving the two bags with their clothing on the staircase.

Peter saw them coming out of the elevator and he followed them. The rest of the guards were on their apartment floor awaiting what would happen next now that Jason was leaving.

The family owned a fleet of cars, but the Maybach belonged to Jason. Peter took the keys from Jason and they all sat in the car.

"Sir, where would I pick up your bags?" Peter inquired when Jason and Julia exited the elevator without any bags.

"Don't worry about that, let's go," Jason replied as he sat in the back seat with Julia.

Peter nodded and started the engine, driving out of the compound to Orlando.

Back on the 6th floor, Mrs Haward sat on the sofa smiling ear to ear as if she had just received the best gift ever.

"If I had known telling him he was an adopted child, I would have made him step down and leave everything. I would have done that a long time ago, but anyway, it's still good," Mrs Haward said, smiling at Mirenda, but Mirenda could neither smile nor frown.

Mrs Haward, not caring about Mirenda's reaction in her excited mood, picked up her phone, dialled a number, and brought the phone to her ears, waiting for it to connect.

"Let the news go viral," Mrs Haward said as the call connected with a broad smile on her face.
