Origami Butterfly

The next day, Mirenda got up early, freshened up, and left for Haward's International. Henry went to the hospital after dropping off Mirenda at Haward's International.

At South Ranches, Fiona had just finished dressing up and was about to leave for work when her phone buzzed with a call. She checked the caller ID and it was unknown. She answered it anyway and brought the phone to her ears.

"Hello?" she said sounding like a question rather than a greeting.

"This is Black. Confirmed. Jason's mother is alive. I will send you her location address," he said.

"Thank you," Fiona appreciated.

Once the call ended she received a text message. It had the address of Jane Wellington's location. She knew she needed to find a way to get that information to James, but she couldn't risk taking a trip to the prison again. She put her phone back into the bag and left for Haward's International.

At Jason's apartment, Jason was fully dressed and getting ready to leave for Wellington's company. He kissed Julia and the baby before leaving home for work in the company of four guards.

At Mr Wellington's apartment, Mr Wellington was dressed and ready for work. He walked into the living room waiting for Jane to come out of her room, but minutes passed and she didn't. He walked towards the guest room and knocked on her door.

"Jane, it's time to leave. I am already late for work," Mr Wellington said but was met with silence.

He held the door handle and turned it. The door opened. He slowly pushed it open, but he was still behind the door, and his gaze focused on the floor and his ears waiting to pick a sound.

"Jane?" he called out as he didn't want to walk in on her in an indecent state.

He slowly took a step inside hoping Jane was decent.

"Jane?" he called out to her again, but his eyes widened at the scene that greeted him.

He rushed to her side and checked her pulse. It was very faint. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and called Dr Andesh.

"Hello, please get the ambulance and come to my house quickly. I have an emergency. It's Jane," Mr Wellington said.

"Okay," Dr Andesh acknowledged without asking for details.

"Jane, Jane, wake up," Mr Wellington shook her but she was motionless.

He had been to her room earlier to ask her to get ready so he could drop her off at a place where she could get a cab back, and he would continue to work. He was not expecting to find Jane lying on the bed motionless. As he sat on the bed trying to wake her, his eyes fell on the pink origami butterfly lying on her side. He picked it up. There was a written on the wings of the butterfly, which read, To My love.

Jane was very good at folding papers into different kinds of shapes and designs. Seeing the origami and the words, To my love, written on it, fear gripped him. The obvious stared at him in the face, but he didn't want to believe it. He looked around and saw a glass of water half emptied and a plain torn open paper sachet lying on the side. There was a remnant of powder on the table. He heard the ambulance siren outside, and soon he heard Dr Andesh calling out to him from the living room. He rushed out of the room and got Dr Andesh. She came with the paramedics. He led them to the room and the paramedics quickly attended to Jane, who was still lying motionless on the bed.

"What happened?" Dr Andesh asked Mr Wellington whose eyes had turned bloodshot with tears threatened to fall.

"Do everything you can to save her. It wasn't easy living with the thought that she was gone for twenty-four years. Seeing her again, I don't want to lose her," he expressed.

"I will do my best," Dr Andesh assured.

Jane was carried out of the room with an oxygen mask and a drip placed on her.

"I think whatever put her in that condition may be in this water and this labelless sachet," Mr Wellington said to Dr Andesh, and she grabbed the glass of water and the paper sachet.

Mr Wellington exited the room with Jane, and they followed the ambulance heading for the hospital.

"Hello Jason, are you in the office?" Mr Wellington asked doing his best to mask his emotions.

"Yes," came Jason's reply.

"I have an emergency now. I may not come to the office depending on the situation. Just so you know," Mr Wellington said.

"Okay," Jason acknowledged and quickly followed it up with a question. "Are you alright, Dad?" he asked.

"Let's talk when I get back," Mr Wellington said as he didn't want to hide another thing from Jason that would upset him.

"Okay, take care," Jason said and the call ended.

They were soon at the hospital, and Jane was moved into the emergency. Dr Andesh gave Mr Wellington a place to wait while they attended to Jane.

While Mr Wellington sat in the small office space, he removed the origami butterfly from his pocket and tears filled his eyes. He carefully unfolded the paper and just as he thought, it was a letter.

My love,

I know I have wronged you and my son most terribly. Seeing our son and how cold and distant he is, I knew I made a wrong decision. In my anxiety, I didn't guard my decision with wisdom. I am regretful of my actions. I can't fix the past but I can do something about the present to create a better future. I am dying my love. It is best to leave now when it will be less painful then win the love of the family and leave. I don't deserve any of you and I don't want to hurt the family more than I already have. I had a dream. A beautiful dream to be free like a butterfly. I am flying away like a butterfly to be free. I love you and I wish you the very best of everything.

Love

Jane.

Mr Wellington read the content and shut his eyes in pain as his hands trembled and his heart began to race. He was mad at Jane for choosing money over family but it didn't mean he loved her any less. He was happy she was alive. Now she was dying for real.

"What did she mean she is dying?" Mr Wellington thought as the pain he felt twenty-four years ago when the death of his wife was announced to him, hit him again with an intense measure.

He stood up and exited the room to find out what was happening, but Dr Andesh was nowhere to be found. He returned to the small office and sat down. He pulled out his phone and dialled Jason's number.

"Jason, the emergency I have is your mum. She was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. I am yet to know what is happening to her," Mr Wellington said, his pain evident in his voice.

"Dr Andesh's hospital?" Jason asked for location confirmation.

"Yes," Mr Wellington replied.

"I will be there," Jason said and the call ended.

At Haward's International, Fiona and Mirenda were having a meeting on the best publicity to do for the company for an upgrade they intend to roll out soon.

"You come from a background of journalism. What do you think we can do?" Mirenda asked.

"I will need time to think things through," Fiona replied, her mind was occupied with a lot and hence her concentration was very minimal.

"I understand, but on the surface what comes to mind?" Mirenda asked staring at Fiona, as they both occupied what used to be Jason's office space.

"Errr, I think, errr, Let me think about it," Fiona said as nothing came to mind when she forced herself to concentrate.

"Fiona," Mirenda called out to her. "Are you alright?" she asked.

"I am fine," Fiona replied, averting her gaze.

"You look tired, and you look chubby. Like you have put on," Mirenda said and Fiona frowned.

Fiona stood up and stormed out of the office ignoring the calls from Mirenda.

"What did I say?" Mirenda asked herself throwing her hands in the air.

Fiona seized the opportunity and left the company with the Raiford Prison as her destination.
