Witch's Daughter And The Devil's Son

Chapter 790: Order For Slayer

Chapter 790: Order For Slayer

Drayce and Seren had returned to Megaris, back to their home. They appeared straight at the Crystal Palace of Theodora instead of going to the main palace.

They had arrived late in the night but didn’t inform anyone. They rested in the chamber meant for them. In the morning, they finally made an appearance and asked a servant to inform the old lady of their arrival.

Theodora hurried to see them, where the couple was outside in the garden, relishing the familiar air and surroundings they had been missing for the past year.

Sensing her presence, Drayce turned to her, offering her a smile. "Grandma."

The old lady couldn’t contain her happiness. She looked weaker than before.

"Let me see if you are truly here or if I am dreaming like I always do."

She touched Drayce’s face with her trembling fingers. "You are truly here."

"I am," he said, and she turned to Seren.

Seren held her hand and said, "It’s not a dream, Grandma."

Theodora’s eyes turned moist. "It’s good you are back, or I was afraid I would be gone before you two returned."

"Don’t say that, Grandma," Seren hugged her, "and we won’t leave you again. Everything’s over now."

"Is it?" the old lady asked, caressing Seren’s head.

Seren looked back at her, her own eyes moist. "Yes. Now, we can live peacefully without anyone causing us trouble."

Drayce and Seren didn’t explain to her what exactly had happened, as matters of other realms were not to be shared with mortals, and it was better for her sake.

"As long as you two are safe and live a happy life, that’s what I want," she commented.

While they spent time together, Drayce had passed a message to the palace about his return. By noon, Slayer and Jasper had arrived at the Crystal Palace.

"Greetings, Your Majesty."

In response, Drayce walked to them. He looked at Slayer. "How have you been?"

"Everything’s been fine," Slayer answered. "Good to see you back."

Drayce hummed and heard a complaining voice, "Someone enjoyed a long vacation while leaving poor servants buried under work. All I hope is these servants get a break as well."

Drayce turned to him. "Granted."

Jasper blinked in surprise. "What did you say?"

"A break for as long as you wish to have," Drayce answered, meeting his surprised gaze with calm.

Jasper quickly stepped forward and hugged him. "My friend, I can’t tell you how delighted I am to see you back. I missed you so much I was about to go crazy..."

"Drop the act," Drayce pushed him away. "You can keep those lines for your woman. And, yes, behave, or I will have to take my words back."

Jasper quickly stepped back as he let out a nervous chuckle. "You are a great king, Drayce Ivanov, a man of his words. He won’t go back on his words."

"Depends," Drayce said, "Going back on my words won’t make me less of a man."

"Alright! I behave," Jasper relented, "I need that break. I want to get married and have kids now."

Just then, Seren arrived there, and Jasper got back to his usual professional self. Both of them greeted her.

"What are you talking about?" Seren asked.

"We are heading back to the palace tomorrow," Drayce told her. "Today, we spend it with Grandma."

Seren agreed with it.

Another guest arrived at the palace once they received the news. Keiren, his wife Edith, and their son Thaddeus.

"Seren," Edith called the moment she stepped out of the carriage and spotted her in the garden with Drayce and the others.

"Edith?" Seren mumbled with delight and walked towards her.

Keiren followed quietly while carrying his son, letting his wife hurry to her friend.

The two hugged.

"I missed you so much, Seren. You were gone for so long. A year passed by," Edith said, finally releasing Seren from her hold.

"Now I am back. I won’t be leaving anywhere," Seren assured, and looked towards Keiren to greet him.

"Thaddeus has grown up so much," Seren said as she approached him. Keiren handed her the baby. "Oh my God, he is so soft like a bunny," Seren chuckled and hugged him, making sure not to squeeze him. "You didn’t forget your aunt, right?"

The baby just stared at her, observing her face.

"If he had forgotten, that’s his aunt’s fault," Edith commented.

Drayce reached them, and the brothers greeted each other. Drayce took the baby from Seren and carried him in his arms.

"He is going to be a handsome young man," Seren commented.

Drayce hummed and he caressed soft chubby cheeks of his nephew, "After all he is a prince of Megaris."

Grandma arrived there as well. "I invited them here, so we can have some family time together."

"You did well, Grandma," Seren assured. "Now I can play with Thaddeus to make up for this lost year."

The family had lunch together.

Edith and Seren busied themselves together while Grandma headed to rest.

"You look much healthier than before, Edith," Seren said as she observed her. She was beautiful, no doubt, but she looked radiant and lively, unlike how weak Seren had seen her before.

"I think the weather here suits me," Edith said. "Since I gave birth, trust me, I feel my body is entirely different. I don’t fall sick anymore, unlike how sickly I used to be for so many years. This place is magical. And same with Thaddeus. Unlike other kids of his age, he doesn’t fall sick either. I am so relieved, as I had spent my childhood days being sick."

Seren offered her a smile. She was happy and aware it was the effect of her powers she had used when she helped deliver the baby. But she didn’t have to tell this to her.

"I am glad to know it. Then how about you always stay here?" Seren asked.

"I want to, but that’s up to Ren," Edith said. "And I am fine with whatever he decides. If he thinks we should leave, then we will."

"Edith, you do know the truth now. You are our family," Seren said.

"I know, and I am happy to know that I am related to people like you and that my son carries the blood of the Ivanov family, but nothing is more important than what Keiren wants. And I am not going to influence whatever decision he wants to take. I am just happy to have him and my son with me. It doesn’t matter where we live."

Seren could understand her sentiments. "If he decides to leave, we will still stay in touch."

"We will. You are the only friend I have."

Meanwhile, the two brothers busied themselves discussing matters related to the kingdom that had happened in Drayce’s absence. Slayer and Jasper joined them as well.

"...I don’t think Thevailes will dare look at us ever again," Jasper commented.

Drayce looked at Slayer. "The barrier I set there?"

"King Samer found the help of dark supernatural powers and managed to break it, but then couldn’t stand for long, as it didn’t work on me," Slayer answered.

Jasper and Keiren knew about the supernatural matters now, though not in detail, but they didn’t probe much into it unless Drayce wished to reveal it.

"Also, thanks to His Highness Prince Keiren’s strategies, we could easily defeat his massive military without causing much damage to our soldiers. And he agreed to sign a lifelong peace treaty with us," Jasper added.

Drayce looked at Keiren. "I am not surprised at all."

"I just fulfilled the responsibility I was given in your absence," Keiren said politely.

"And, our commander of knights, once more managed to avoid going to his estate," Jasper added as he smirked at Slayer. "He ignored your order, Your Majesty."

Drayce looked at him, "You didn’t go there?"

"There were serious matters to handle here in your absence, especially Thevailes," Slayer replied in serious tone. "My departure would have ceased trouble."

"Now everything’s settle, you can plan to leave," Drayce instructed.

"As you have retuned just now, it can be delayed for a while more," Slayer said.

"There he goes again," Jasper let out a deep sigh and said, "I am telling you, Calhoun sanders, I work for the King, not for you. I am not going to look after your estate matters anymore. Handle it yourself."

Before Slayer could say anything, Drayce added, "I will take care of whatever matters are left. You should focus on going there."

Slayer couldn’t disobey him.
