Chapter 34: Jacobs POV.
The bull shark sped towards us like a gray rocket. It’s merciless eyes was more than enough to tell that it didn’t care about the fact that it was outnumbered.
From the looks of it, it just wanted to sink its teeth into something soft.
The manatee, usually so calm, finally seemed to realize it was in trouble. It tried to paddle its flippers, but it was far too slow to escape a predator moving at that speed.
I didn’t even have to think. My body moved on instinct, fueled by the strength of my shark half but guided by my human mind.
I reached out and grabbed the chubby manatee, putting my shoulder into it and shoving the creature toward Garin.
I didn’t mean to be rough, but the force was enough that he got knocked back a bit as he caught the large sea cow.
They tumbled backward through the water, away from the path of the charging beast.
As for the shark, it missed its target completely.
It snapped its jaws shut on empty water, the sound of its teeth clicking together echoing like a gunshot under the waves.
The force of its own momentum carried it past where I stood, and for a split second, it looked confused only to be angry the next.
Furious, the beast tried turning around. It whipped its tail, thrashing the water into a foam as it tried to loop back and attack the person who had just robbed it of its meal.
Its black, soulless eyes were locked onto me now. It saw me as the only thing standing between it and its dinner.
"And where do you think you’re going?" I muttered. I didn’t feel afraid. If anything, I felt a strange sort of coldness.
How dare this mangy mutt attack my chubby friend?
I moved faster than the shark could react.
Before the beast could finish its turn, I lunged forward. My hands, now tipped with sharp, sturdy claws, clamped onto the base of the shark’s tail.
The shark thrashed, trying to shake me off, but my grip was like a steel vice.
I kicked my own powerful tail and shot back several meters, dragging the massive predator with me through the water.
It was a strange sight, me pulling a full-grown bull shark backward as if it were nothing more than a piece of driftwood.
The shark had no way of resisting against my physical strength.
In this world, "shark folk" were built different.
Their muscles were denser, their power more explosive.
I could feel the raw energy fueling my arms as the shark struggled.
It tried to arch its body, snapping its jaws at the empty space, but it couldn’t reach me.
The moment I stopped my backward dash, the shark tried twisting around to bite at me again.
It was flexible and desperate, its body coiling like a spring. But its plan failed when I began to spin.
Using my own tail as a pivot point in the water, I started to rotate my body.
At first, it was slow, but then I put my full weight into the motion.
I began spinning the beast at incredible speeds.
The water around us turned into a dizzying vortex, bubbles and sand whipping around in a circle.
The unprepared beast was unable to do anything as it was spun over and over and over again.
The force took over, pinning the shark’s internal organs against its skin and making it impossible for it to move.
My arms felt the strain, but I didn’t stop. I kept spinning until the water pressure was roaring in my ears.
Only after a while did I finally let go, putting every ounce of my power into a final heave.
I flung it into the distance.
The shark shot through the water like it had been fired from a cannon.
It spun several meters through the open sea, unable to right itself, before finally colliding with the reef floor.
The impact was loud and messy. It hit a large formation of coral, the sharp branches snapping like dry twigs.
A pile of shattered coral buried it below, sending up a huge cloud of white dust and sand.
As for whether it was alive or dead, I wasn’t sure.
I stood there, my chest heaving as I breathed the water through my gills. The shark didn’t move from under the rubble.
Whatever injuries it received might’ve been internal, like broken bones or crushed organs, which made it harder to tell.
Luckily for me, right now, it wasn’t a threat.
But my joy was short lived.
"Looks like we stirred up the whole neighborhood," I said, my voice tight.
I wasn’t happy even after defeating the beast, because something else had turned up.
I frowned as I smelt even more scents of blood all over the place.
It wasn’t just the bull shark’s blood.
The scent was spreading, coming from different directions in the dark cracks of the reef.
It was like a bell had been rung.
The bloody tang in the water was becoming thick, almost sweet.
This could only mean that a huge number of sharks were coming. It wasn’t just one or two anymore; it was a pack.
"Garin, I need you and the others to leave now along with the manatee," I said. I didn’t turn around to look at them. I kept my eyes fixed on the darkness ahead.
With the arrival of even more blood in the water, my bloodlust surfaced once more.
This time, it was stronger than before. It felt like a hot iron was being pressed against the inside of my skull.
The blue veins on my arms weren’t just throbbing now; they were glowing with a faint, angry light.
My vision was turning a deep, dark red, and the urge to just tear into anything that moved was becoming almost impossible to ignore.
I was losing the battle to stay in control.
"What?! Why would we do that?!" Garin shouted, swimming closer. He looked shocked and offended. "There’s no way we’re leaving without you. We’re a team, Jacob!"
