The young man glanced at Old Nissen, who introduced, “His name is Sean. He used to be a resident of Shelter Number 11. That was an insurmountable chasm.
The Truth Society barely lifted a finger and trampled their lifelong dream into the dust, leaving no hope of recovery.
Truly pitiful.
Bai Fu consoled the emotionally overwhelmed Sean. Being appreciated like this wasn’t a bad feeling—but now wasn’t the time to indulge in it.
“I have something I want to discuss with you,” she said to Old Nissen.
Old Nissen replied, “Let’s go to the second floor. Sean, please watch the tavern for me.”
The two of them headed upstairs, one after the other.
Bai Fu got straight to the point. “I want to invite you to join the Garden of Silence.”
Old Nissen hesitated for a long while, then shook his head. “I’m a useless man abandoned by the old era. All I wish now is to run this tavern well and for Yulia to return safely. It was my fault she was taken. If I hadn’t invited her to join the Watchers, she wouldn’t have been captured by the Truth Society.”
A lie!
Bai Fu saw through it instantly.
“Really? If I told you joining the Garden of Silence could realize the Watchers’ unfinished dream, would your answer still be the same?”
Old Nissen’s mouth parted slightly.
Bai Fu said, “At first, I came here just to fulfill my deal with Yulia. But now I’ve decided to stay longer. My plan is to first complete the deal with Yulia, then eliminate all disobedient Wanderer Camps in the Goli Desert. After that, I’ll rebuild the abandoned settlements and use them as bases to gradually wipe out all nearby Mutant Creatures. It’s a grand plan. As a former Watcher, are you not even a little tempted?”
