Who Made Her an NPC?!

Chapter 225: Race Evolution, Void Prophet

【You begin reading 《Advanced Techniques for Qi Manipulation》……】

【You begin reading 《A New Method for Refining Qi》……】

After spending just over ten minutes, Bai Fu finished studying the two A-rank Body Cultivation stream advancement manuals sent by Andras.

The moment the progress reached 100%, the system notified her that the advancement quest for her 【Moonchasing Dancer】 class had also been completed.

【You have completed the class advancement quest [Martial Arts Specialist], received 3 million XP, a random Talent or Passive Skill *1, and qualification for Class Transfer】

【Drawing random Talent or Passive Skill】

【Drawing complete】

【You have acquired the Talent [Abundant Qi]】

The Talent Abundant Qi was quite practical for Body Cultivation classes, increasing Qi capacity by 10%, but for Bai Fu, who specialized in Psionic classes, the Talent had little real utility.

The only reason she bothered leveling a second class was to get the bonus Attribute Points granted upon leveling.

Bai Fu skipped the message and directly opened her Attribute Panel, tapping the plus sign next to the class tab.

A pleasant system chime followed.

【Class Transfer Successful】

【You have unlocked a new class [Shadow Attendant], current level Lv1, Strength +1, Agility +4, Constitution +1, Spirit +3, Attribute Points +5】

A-rank classes could be leveled up to Lv25, requiring 300 million XP in total.

Since this was a secondary class, an additional XP cost was required per level—around 70 million extra.

In total, 370 million XP. Was that a lot?

Bai Fu, flush with XP, didn’t mind at all—after all, she currently held 1.03 billion XP.

Just dump it all!

She instantly leveled 【Shadow Attendant】 to Lv25, then continued learning S-rank advancement knowledge, completed the class transfer again, and continued leveling up. She only stopped once the newly unlocked class 【Shadow Master】 reached Lv22.

At this point, she still had 30 million XP left, which wasn’t enough to gain another level.

Though the cost was high, Bai Fu’s gains were equally significant. The passive and basic skills unlocked through leveling up needed no elaboration. Upon transferring to 【Shadow Master】, her Constitution to HP conversion rate even gained an additional 5 points, making her significantly more durable.

In addition, due to the sharp increase in base Spirit attribute, she was astonished to discover that her race gene compatibility with the 【Prophet】 lineage had reached 100%.

Race evolution!

Bai Fu became excited.

【As your current race is [Shadow Wraith (Star-praying Human)], after completing the race evolution, your race will change to [Prophet (Bai Fu)]】

Void races were highly specialized; under the broad Void category existed countless subtypes, each possessing vastly different racial abilities.

This was because most Void beings were transformed through infection by Void Blood. True original Void lifeforms were rare.

The benefit of such special races was that even after evolution, previous racial traits were not entirely erased.

Of course, no advantage comes without drawbacks.

First, Void Transformation easily led one to become a mindless monster. Second, many areas were extremely hostile to Void lifeforms—so much so that they would attack on sight. Lastly, Void beings had much lower compatibility with various professions compared to humanoid carbon-based lifeforms. Some unique classes were outright inaccessible.

But none of these were issues for Bai Fu.

First, she could actively control her evolutionary direction. Second, though her chosen classes weren’t mainstream, they weren’t so rare that Void lifeforms couldn’t learn them.

Evolution, evolution! If not now, when? Especially since evolution came with bonus Attribute Points!

【Race Evolution in progress……】

Bai Fu tapped the confirmation button.

Whoosh—

In an instant, she felt like she had plunged into the peak of summer.

Scorching heat waves assaulted her from all directions—and even surged from deep within her body—making her instinctively want to stuff herself with ice cubes just to cool down.

Fortunately, this strange burning sensation didn’t last long. Just as she felt she might start rolling from the heat, the waves receded like the tide, leaving behind a feeling of long-overdue release and a stream of game notifications.

【You have completed Race Evolution. Your race has changed to [Prophet (Bai Fu)]】

【Race changed. You have received Attribute Bonuses——

Strength +13, Agility +33, Constitution +17, Intelligence +95, Spirit +31, Inspiration +82】

【Exclusive Talent [Void Infected] removed】

【Racial Trait [Wraith] removed】

【You have gained new Racial Trait bonuses——

Gained exclusive Skill [Prophet’s Mark];

Gained exclusive Talent [Void Prophet];

Gained exclusive Talent [Void Nest];

Gained exclusive Talent [Void Walk].】

"This is a complete transformation of lifeform."

Bai Fu removed her Combat Suit and meticulously examined her body from outside to inside.

The good news was, despite becoming a Void lifeform and undergoing some structural changes, all sensations remained intact, her abdominal lines were still there, and her stamina had greatly increased.

"This body is now better suited for combat—in every sense."

Bai Fu beamed and began inspecting the new skills and talents from the race evolution.

【Prophet’s Mark】 was an active teleportation skill. She could use it to place a mark in space and teleport to it instantly. Currently, the range could span several astronomical units.

Very nice. Whether escaping or ambushing, this was a god-tier skill. Moreover, it had no cooldown—just a high stamina cost, which limited usage frequency.

【Void Prophet】 was a complex talent. Simply put, after turning into a Void being, her power now carried Void traits—20% of her damage would convert into Void damage, which ignored normal resistances and effectively became true damage in most scenarios.

【Void Nest】 allowed her to build a nest in the Void. It was essentially an advanced version of the removed 【Portable Space】 talent but with much greater space. The effect of 【Void Walk】 was that she could enter a Void form and traverse the Void—somewhat similar to the removed 【Wraith】 trait, but even harder to detect.

"More life-saving skills are always better!"

Bai Fu couldn’t help but sigh with satisfaction.

With these new traits, she didn’t need to worry even if surrounded by a mob. Worst case, she could just escape.

It was only a pity that this race evolution didn’t unlock any active offensive skills. If it had, she’d have both shadow-based Psionic abilities and Void powers—opponents wouldn’t stand a chance.

Still, the Attribute bonuses from this evolution were extraordinary—double what she gained from evolving into a Shadow Wraith.

After allocating all her Attribute Points into Inspiration, Bai Fu’s data panel saw a massive leap——

【HP】: 59089/59089

【Psionic Value】: 106345/106345

【Qi】: 11470/11470

【Attributes】: Strength 282, Agility 670, Constitution 767, Intelligence 570, Spirit 758, Inspiration 1933

Even her Strength had increased by nearly 100 points. Attributes like Inspiration had skyrocketed by nearly 400.

Bai Fu believed that with her current power, she could take down at least two and a half versions of her pre-upgrade self. Once she advanced to the Calamity level, she could take on three of someone like Centurion!

And now she was just 67 points of Inspiration away from advancing to Calamity level.

That wasn’t much. All she needed was to elevate her Heart of the Apostle by one more layer—to the fifth layer—and the requirements would be met.

Was it hard?

Not at all.

Bai Fu had already thought things through before this operation.

After angering the Master of the Secret Tower, her commission work wouldn’t be running normally anytime soon. The base on Onandi Star couldn’t be developed further either. Other than squeezing some XP out of Players from time to time, she had nothing else to do.

Since she had free time, why not do experiments with Yulia?

It would kill time and help her stack more layers of Heart of the Apostle for Attribute growth—truly killing two birds with one stone!

“Stop researching Cersia’s cells already and help me with Mana Recharge.”

A hand suddenly reached from behind, resting on the back of hers, accompanied by the faint scent of camellias and warm breath against her ear.

A succubus, for crying out loud!

In the spaceship’s lab, Yulia jolted so hard she nearly fell.

She didn’t need to look to know who it was—only Bai Fu and she knew the lab’s passcode.

“You sure you want to do this now? We’re on a spaceship. Even if the soundproofing is great, Fei Ye and Cersia are nearby.”

Bai Fu circled to Yulia’s front and rolled her eyes: “What are you thinking? I meant a proper Mana Recharge.”

Yulia feigned ignorance. “Mana recharge is just mana recharge. What’s the difference between proper and improper?”

Bai Fu replied, “Don’t think I don’t know that your body can help me recharge even without physical contact. Cut it out, I’m handling serious business. First help me level up the Heart of the Apostle. Once I successfully advance to Calamity-rank, I’ll accompany you in a three-day-and-night mana recharge. Whoever gives up or runs is a dog!”

Yulia: “……”

You’re doing this on purpose, right? A three-day-and-night recharge once you’re Calamity-rank? Are you trying to kill me? You may be made of iron, but I’m not an ironworker.

While silently grumbling, Yulia maintained a calm expression and nodded.

“Let’s begin.”

……

Four days later.

The spaceship smoothly arrived at the Star Covenant’s Initial Gate Galaxy Cluster Branch.

Just after disembarking, Cecia, who had been deep in thought, immediately approached Yulia.

“I need to talk to you abou—huh?”

Looking at Yulia, who was bracing herself against a wall, face pale and legs trembling, Cecia showed a stunned expression.

“What happened to you?”

“Nothing much. I just overused psionic power over the past couple of days and now my body’s a little weak.”

Yulia wasn’t lying.

She was well aware that Bai Fu had caught the attention of the Secret Tower and was in a precarious situation. So she had been pouring all her effort into helping Bai Fu recover psionic energy and stacking levels on the Heart of the Apostle.

It was exhausting, yes, but the results were promising. With another ten days or half a month, Bai Fu could very well advance to Calamity-rank.

Now, she and Bai Fu were in the same boat. If Bai Fu thrived, so would she.

Cecia mulled it over, suspecting Yulia was lying, but now wasn’t the time to dwell on Yulia’s state. Her top enemy was Hiye, who had already advanced to Calamity-rank. Until she regained the upper hand, everything else was trivial. At worst, she’d come back to interrogate later!

With that in mind, Cecia stepped forward and supported Yulia, showing concern.

This sudden shift left Yulia completely baffled.

What are you doing?

It wasn’t until Cecia said she wanted to collaborate on researching her own powers in hopes of taming the spider within her that Yulia finally understood.

So that’s how it is—Cecia had been provoked by Hiye!

Yulia calmly nodded.

She had zero interest in the conflict between Cecia and Hiye, but Cecia willingly cooperating with her research was undoubtedly a good thing.

Through studying Cecia’s cells, she had already developed a potion that could aid in healing injuries.

Thanks to this research, the Quiet Garden no longer needed to spend heavily on external healing potions, saving a substantial amount of resources.

But in Yulia’s eyes, that still wasn’t enough. The current potions were too weak. They worked well on the Undying Ones, but for Bai Fu, they were practically useless.

Cecia’s cooperation would significantly increase the chances of developing a high-efficiency recovery potion that could benefit Bai Fu.

And so, she gladly accepted Cecia’s goodwill.

……

The same day Bai Fu returned to the branch, she received word from Star Covenant headquarters.

Hiye, who had successfully advanced to Calamity-rank, had already been internally designated as the next Minister of the branch. The official appointment would come once the current Minister, Lemang, was promoted.

This was good news.

The Initial Gate Branch wasn’t massive, but it was still a formidable force.

Once Hiye took over as Minister, her faction would find it much easier to conduct operations within the Initial Gate Galaxy Cluster.

Bai Fu sincerely offered her congratulations to Hiye, then declined a slew of interview requests from Starweb and other outlets, and initiated an online meeting with Andras.

Andras had invested in her with such fervor—it was only natural that he wanted something in return.

In truth, Andras wasn’t in a particularly favorable position within the Origin Consortium. As with all large investment groups, internal factions were rampant. Though he was the helmsman, he constantly faced challenges from all sides.

Some of those challenges were harmless. Others could very well unseat him as the helmsman.

Currently, the greatest threat came from an alliance of three internal factions.

This alliance had deep ties with the well-known Taim Civilization in the Edge Worlds. They advocated for the Origin Consortium to fully side with the Taim Civilization and thereby latch onto the colossal force that was the Supernova Legion.

This stance completely contradicted the long-held neutral position of Andras and his family, which led to fierce confrontation between the two sides.

In the past, Andras and his family had always held the upper hand, but as the external situation changed and the investment returns of the Origin Consortium declined in recent years, that advantage began to shift.

In recent internal meetings of the Consortium, the Taim faction had gradually gained the upper hand. More and more people were willing to bet on the Taim faction.

It was impossible for Andras not to feel anxious.

He had no interest in becoming involved in the power struggles among the Three Universal Civilizations.

The risks borne by conflicts of that scale were simply too great. Even if the Origin Consortium won the bet in the end, it would only earn them a ticket to the final stage.

But his personal will meant little in the face of overwhelming momentum.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, once war broke out between the Taim Civilization and the surrounding civilizations, his position as helmsman would likely become untenable.

However, now the unexpected had indeed occurred.

Andras never dreamed that Bai Fu, whom he had invested in, could grow so quickly.

If Bai Fu really could, as she claimed, advance to Calamity-rank in a short time, then he would have something substantial to present at the next internal meeting.

Even if this achievement couldn't completely bridge the support gap with the Taim faction, it would at least keep some fence-sitters in a wait-and-see state, rather than having them defect outright to the Taim faction.

“Taim Civilization? War? Supernova Legion?”

Bai Fu pondered. She suspected this might be part of the main storyline in a future version of the game. But since version 2.0 hadn’t officially launched yet, there was no point in dwelling on it.

After detailing the internal situation of the Origin Consortium, Andras shifted the conversation to a warning.

Recently, Bai Fu had performed extraordinarily well. Her fame had already spread beyond the Initial Gate Galaxy Cluster, drawing attention from many, including members of the Taim faction within the Origin Consortium.

Andras was concerned that the Taim faction might harbor ill intentions, taking advantage of the current setbacks in the Dark Moon Tide’s commission business to poach her talents.

Hearing this, Bai Fu couldn’t help but laugh.

Well, funny thing—she’d been worrying about this very issue lately.

But her concern wasn’t that someone might poach her people; it was that no one would. If no one came to poach them, then her plan to send some Players as undercover agents into other factions to gather intelligence would fall through. Andras’s words were music to her ears.

“I’ll be careful.”

Bai Fu readily agreed.

After ending her conversation with Andras, she immediately had the Digging‑Princess inform the Players in the Secret Tower to ramp up their intelligence gathering.

The Players on the Secret Tower’s side were quite dependable.

No sooner had Bai Fu sent her message than they reported several Secret Tower base locations and noted that the Secret Tower had been intensively drilling them lately, as if preparing for a major operation.

Bai Fu didn’t rush to report those base locations to the Starweb.

The Secret Tower headquarters was still unknown, and she was worried that alarming them might cause them to go into hiding. If that happened, she would lose out on a lot of quest rewards.

“Everything is ready. Now I just need to advance to Calamity-rank!”

Bai Fu cleared her backlog of company tasks, then actively contacted Sui Xi of the Sanctification Order.

Before heading out to rendezvous with Hiye and the others, she had taken on a commission from Sui Xi: to seize the True Spirit Pillar held by the Secret Tower.

Now that half a month had passed, it was time to reconnect with Sui Xi and get an update.

“I figured you were tied up on Red Ring Star, so I didn’t reach out. Since you’re free now, come to the Sanctification Order. Let’s discuss the specific action plan.”

“No problem.”

Bai Fu immediately gathered Players from both her ships and set course for the headquarters of the Sanctification Order.

Due to the Secret Tower’s interference, the number of commission quests available to Players had dropped significantly. Most had gone off to do Vic’s main quests. This was a perfect opportunity for her to give idle Players something to do, and maybe even squeeze more quests out of the Lucky Star NPC, Sui Xi.

Players needed to stay busy to gain experience. When Players earned experience, she could siphon it. And with that experience, she could keep leveling up.

Every link mattered—there was no room for sloppiness.
