Who Made Her an NPC?!

Chapter 191 : Fifth Enhancement, Officially Certified Sovereign of the Shadowed Night

Chapter 191 : Fifth Enhancement, Officially Certified Sovereign of the Shadowed Night

Chapter 191: Fifth Enhancement, Officially Certified Sovereign of the Shadowed Night

When all the Players disappeared from view, a familiar special prompt sounded in Bai Fu’s ears as usual.

【Plot Participation Confirmation in Progress (0%……10%……)】

【Current Plot Exploration of Origin Star: 13.4%】

【Current Plot Exploration of Indigo Star: 8.1%】

【Current Plot Exploration of Initial Gate Galaxy Cluster: 0.2%】

【Character Role Correction in Progress (0%……2%……)】

【Character Role changed from [Legendary Protagonist of Origin Star] to [Legendary Protagonist of Origin Star] + [Legendary Demon God of Indigo Star] + [Player Guide of Initial Gate Galaxy Cluster]】

【Character Profile Correction in Progress (0%……2%……)】

“Hmm?”

Bai Fu let out a surprised sound.

To her surprise, her character role wasn’t replaced outright by the new setting as before, but rather two new roles were added on top of her existing role.

“Will Legendary Roles always be retained?”

Bai Fu’s lips curled into a smirk. She suddenly thought of something — if she went through all the Newbie Planets one by one, wouldn’t she end up with dozens of Legendary Roles? When Players introduced her, they’d spend minutes just reading them aloud.

A little absurd.

But she liked it!

The more roles she had, the more impressive she appeared to the Players. The more impressive she appeared, the more they would follow her. The more they followed her, the more new roles she could earn — a positive cycle.

And since the officials had chosen to retain these roles, surely they came with benefits, right?

A few minutes later, the Character Profile correction completed, and Bai Fu immediately started reviewing each revision prompt.

【Correction 1: Your race has undergone a special evolution. Skill [Psionic Super Perception] changed to [Mind’s Eye]】

[Mind’s Eye] was a perception-type skill just like [Psionic Super Perception], but with a broader range. At Lv10, its detection radius reached one kilometer. What’s more, with this skill, Bai Fu could detect energy flows even without entering her Shadow Wraith form.

“Nice. A good one!”

【Correction 2: Skill [Miracle Resonance] changed to [Resonance of the Shadowed Night (Bai Fu)]】

[Miracle Resonance] was that ultra-rare skill akin to Yulia’s [Blessed Link].

Before the correction, it was a non-upgradable generic skill. Bai Fu could bind one target, and once bound, both parties would enjoy a 3% boost to all basic stats.

After the correction, it became Bai Fu’s exclusive skill — and now upgradable. At Lv1, it could still bind one target with the same 3% boost, but at Lv2, it could bind two targets and the boost increased to 5%.

Notably, [Resonance of the Shadowed Night (Bai Fu)] had a unique leveling method. Bai Fu couldn’t use XP to level it up. Instead, its level scaled with her Base Inspiration — every 500 points raised it by one level.

Bai Fu currently had over 1100 Base Inspiration, so she could bind two targets.

“Let’s go with Anya!”

With a light mental tap on the Attribute Panel, Bai Fu noticed an indescribable connection formed between her and Anya.

Perfect. Now she and Anya — and Yulia — were in two-way resonance. A bit more effort, and she could link up with Xia Shi and Hiye too, and then she’d evolve into the Four-winged Angel Bai Fu!

Bai Fu had another reason to be happy.

She noticed that every time she underwent an enhancement recently, she received an exclusive skill or exclusive talent. It seemed she was performing so outstandingly that the officials were deliberately molding her into a unique Boss filled with exclusive skills and talents.

No doubt, that was great news.

【Correction 3: Exclusive Talent [Extraordinary Trait (Bai Fu)] changed to Exclusive Talent [Evolution Body (Bai Fu)]】

Compared to [Extraordinary Trait], [Evolution Body] didn’t change much. It added just one line: Base Psionic Value Limit +10%, but this new bonus gave Bai Fu a considerable boost.

Who didn’t want greater stamina?

Well, Bai Fu certainly did.

The only downside was that Yulia, her mana support, would have to work even harder. But oh well, demand had increased after all.

Bai Fu flipped further — Corrections 4 and 5 popped up together.

【Correction 4: Template [Shadow Wraith (Star-praying Human)] changed to Exclusive Template [Sovereign of the Shadowed Night]】

【Correction 5: You have received the Indigo Star Legendary Certification [Sovereign of the Shadowed Night (Indigo Star) – Bai Fu]】

These two prompts made Bai Fu’s eyes light up.

Damn, an exclusive template, and a new legendary certification?

That alone was enough to bring joy. Even better, both the exclusive template and the certification were titled Sovereign of the Shadowed Night!

“The real Sovereign of the Shadowed Night was killed by me, and now the officials gave me a new certification. Heh, this is the officially endorsed Sovereign of the Shadowed Night! I, Bai Fu, just ask you — am I Fu enough or what!”

Bai Fu proudly placed a hand on her waist.

With this, she no longer feared Players digging deeper into her identity for a while.

Excited, Bai Fu opened the detailed descriptions of the new template and certification.

The [Sovereign of the Shadowed Night] template granted her an extra 10 Strength, 10 Agility, 10 Constitution, 15 Intelligence, 20 Willpower, and 20 Inspiration. It gave her an additional +5 to Inspiration-to-Psionic Value conversion and +150 points/min in Psionic Recovery Speed — more than doubling her recovery rate. Of course, with a super support like Yulia, she didn’t really care about that.

The bonus from [Sovereign of the Shadowed Night] wasn’t huge, but it was an exclusive template — one that could be further enhanced. Promising future indeed.

The [Sovereign of the Shadowed Night] legendary certification brought benefits similar to the [Card Queen] certification of Origin Star — two bonuses.

First, it boosted her Base Mental Resistance by +50%. With the 50% from Shadow Wraith, her total resistance was doubled, making her significantly more durable mentally.

Second, it affected the Faction of Sovereign of the Shadowed Night — granting all Players who joined it a +5% to all base resistances via a special buff.

Almost every major Faction had its own exclusive bonus. The difference here was that while most were fixed, Bai Fu’s Sovereign of the Shadowed Night Faction had a scalable bonus — a key draw for recruiting more Players.

“You did good, Developer!”

Bai Fu gave a thumbs-up.

Before this enhancement, her HP Limit was 30,703 and Psionic Value Limit was 40,210. Afterward, her HP Limit rose to 31,671, and her Psionic Value Limit skyrocketed to 52,390 — a more than 25% increase. Absolutely staggering.

Bai Fu continued flipping through the subsequent correction details.

【Correction 6: Character Power Classification changed from [Hidden Boss (Star Sea)] to [Regional Boss (Sea Lion System)]】

【Correction 7: Ichi and Teresa reclassified as [Sovereign of the Shadowed Night] [Indigo Star Branch] [Managers]】

【Correction 8: Xia Shi reclassified as [Sovereign of the Shadowed Night] [Repair Supervisor] [Mechanic]】

【Correction 9: The subordinate [Dark Moon Tide Private Armed Company] under [Sovereign of the Shadowed Night] will be revised into a well-known force in the Sea Lion System in version 1.4 [Final Tide]】

【Correction 10: Ulysses Star will be designated as the Player Main City in version 1.4 [Final Tide]】

【Correction 11: The [Sovereign of the Shadowed Night] Faction Management Interface adds the [Title] function】

The following six corrections were primarily role corrections, essentially the official’s recognition of her efforts in version 1.3, with only Correction 11 being particularly unique.

Bai Fu opened the Faction Management Interface and found that after the [Title] function was activated, she could now assign titles as mission rewards when issuing faction missions to Players.

This function had quite a few restrictions. The officials set a reference line—any title she issued couldn’t have bonuses surpassing this line. The number of titles she could issue daily was also limited. To raise the cap, she’d have to improve both her own power and her Faction Reputation.

But Bai Fu didn’t really care about all that. All she saw was a new way to harvest XP-farming Players!

Who said titles had to offer stat bonuses?

Players often collected titles not for the bonus, but for the “collection” itself—or to flaunt that sense of “uniqueness” when a title hung next to their name.

Exploiting this tendency, she could deliberately set limited edition titles with eye-catching names to entice Players.

Like [Friend of Bai Fu], [Most Trusted by Bai Fu], [Bai Fu’s Solid Support], and so on.

Oh, and she could also set [God of Wealth of the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night], [Chief Investor of Bai Fu], and similar titles to push Players to spend in the shops she opened—siphoning their Credit Coins fiercely. If there was something she wanted done but felt awkward about asking, she could also hint through the titles. This would help her maintain her image as a kind and righteous figure in front of Players.

It’s the title seducing you into mischief—has nothing to do with Bai Fu, okay!

“Once the new version launches, I must try this out immediately. If it works well, I’ll be able to extract XP even more efficiently.”

Bai Fu licked her lips with excitement.

Completing missions was exhausting—draining Players was better. When the drained Players were pleased, she was pleased. That’s what true domination looked like. If a party didn’t involve win-lose dynamics, it didn’t qualify as a real win party.

Bai Fu closed the Faction Management Interface.

That concluded her enhancements. Now, with around half a month remaining before the launch of version 1.4 [Final Tide], she didn’t have any pressing matters to deal with. Considering she had been running around the Sea Lion System for months with barely any rest, she decided to take a break.

But before officially starting her break, she still had a few small matters to handle—first, of course, was the ever-popular card fusion gamble.

After leveling up, she still had over 800 million XP left. With that much in hand, it was only natural to gamble a bit on her luck.

This time, Bai Fu chose to fuse toward the control and summon direction. After investing more than 50 million XP in succession, she successfully fused a pile of Low-grade Blessing Cards and Low-grade Weakening Cards. She couldn’t use these herself, but they were perfect for squeezing XP-farming Players.

Aside from these low-grade cards, she also fused two rare cards: [Dark Vortex] and [Phantom Fu-fu].

[Dark Vortex] generated a vortex that gradually drained the target’s stats and stamina. [Phantom Fu-fu] summoned a True Spirit that resembled Bai Fu and could use part of Bai Fu’s skills. Once the Prayer Card reached +10, the Phantom Fu-fu would be equivalent to a mid-tier A-rank Psionicist—quite powerful. The only problem was the Prayer Card’s crafting cost was steep, and poverty made Bai Fu too cautious to freely make +10 Phantom Fu-fus.

Not a big deal.

If she couldn’t make +10 Phantom Fu-fus, she could start with +1 or +2 Phantom Fu-fus.

What, +1 or +2 Phantom Fu-fus weren’t strong enough?

No worries. Bai Fu never planned to use them herself. She intended to open a rental store under the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night Faction, renting out Prayer Cards to Players who wanted the full cards but were strapped for cash. This line of summon-type Prayer Cards would be her first flagship products.

Let Players, as mercenaries, hire her Prayer Cards to complete mercenary missions!

Oh wow, how perfectly logical!

After finishing the card fusion, Bai Fu climbed down from the rooftop and found Hiye, who was still awake.

This trip to Indigo Star had earned her a massive amount of XP, but she hadn’t made a single Credit Coin—after all, Indigo Star’s currency wasn’t Credit Coins.

Whether purchasing Psionic Crystals, Prayer Card materials, or advanced knowledge, all required massive Credit Coin expenditures. The broke Bai Fu had no choice but to seek Hiye’s help.

But she wasn’t here to live off others. Not long ago, she had just scored a bank card from Hiye. Coming back to ask for money would be shameless.

Bai Fu had come to Hiye mainly to ask about the highly popular battle card game, “Cosmic Web”, which was huge in the Three Universal Civilizations. Relying solely on endorsements and ads was too limited—she needed more revenue streams.

“That’s right. Once you’re selected by ‘Cosmic Web’ and made into a card, you can receive a share of the annual card sales.”

“You’re asking how much I make annually? Not much—just over 300,000. But I’ve heard that those Psionicists who are famous across the Three Universal Civilizations earn tens of millions or even more Credit Coins yearly from sales.”

“That number isn’t exaggerated. Their supporter count reaches hundreds of billions. Even if only one in every 1,000 supporters buys a card, the revenue is astronomical.”

“It’s basically a form of indirect investment. ‘Cosmic Web’ is developed by a company under the most prestigious Eternal Investment Fund within Titan Industries. Through the card revenue, the Fund maintains strong ties with many Domination-level, and even Transcendent-level Psionicists.”

“With your current strength, getting picked by ‘Cosmic Web’ is still a bit tough. But your fame is already enough. Once you meet their minimum threshold, your revenue share will definitely surpass mine. Who knows, the Eternal Investment Fund might even give you an upfront payment. They often proactively invest in Psionicists they think have great potential.”

Hiye’s explanation answered all of Bai Fu’s concerns clearly.

More revenue shares and additional investment?

Looks like she had to keep pushing forward!

“Have a good rest. I won’t disturb you anymore.”

After parting with Hiye, Bai Fu returned to her own residence.

She set the hot water, slipped into the tub, and under the warmth, leisurely scrolled through the posts and videos that Tai’er Zhenren and others had published in the Community during her absence from the Initial Gate Galaxy Cluster, trying to stay updated on the situation there.

The good news was that although tensions between the Secret Tower and the various civilizations of the Initial Gate Galaxy Cluster had been stirred up, neither side had rushed into conflict—they were both preparing. She didn’t need to hurry back out of fear of missing major plot events.

The bad news: after she escaped Ulysses Star with Yulia and the others, the enraged Cersia destroyed all the buildings that she and the Players had constructed there.

“Damn that vile woman!”

Bai Fu was furious.

Once she became an S+ rank Psionicist, she absolutely wouldn’t let Cersia off easily. At minimum, she’d have to string her up and beat her a few times before finishing her off.

Fortunately, after Cersia finished venting, Manu, who had received Bai Fu’s notice earlier, stood up for her.

After careful preparation, Manu led a large group of Psionicists in a surprise descent upon the Crystalite Corporation. Caught off guard, the Crystalite staff tried to flee, but under siege, all attempts were futile.

In the end, Manu annihilated the entire Crystalite Corporation and even captured two envoys from the Secret Tower’s headquarters. Only Cersia, who wasn’t present at the time, managed to escape.

The fall of Crystalite Corporation caused Bai Fu’s contribution rate toward defeating the Secret Tower to jump to 0.6%—a satisfying boost.

“That’s what you get for scheming against me!”

Bai Fu wiggled her toes in delight.

Over the following days, she wandered around Indigo Star with Anya, Yulia, and the others. They visited many breathtaking sights and met many people, paving the way for the development of the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night’s Indigo Star Branch managed by Ichi and Teresa.

During the breaks in their travels, Bai Fu didn’t forget to seize the chance to have Yulia help her stack layers on the Heart of the Apostle.

After learning that Bai Fu’s race had evolved into a Shadow Wraith, Yulia had been very eager to experiment with her. The moment Bai Fu extended the invitation, Yulia agreed immediately.

Do it, do it hard—who would dislike doing experiments with Bai Fu?

“So it can be done like this!”

“What an amazing ability!”

Yulia exclaimed in awe.

Ever since meeting Bai Fu, every now and then Bai Fu would reveal a new side of herself that Yulia had never seen before. Studying Bai Fu felt like delving into a bottomless abyss—one that could never be fully explored, always offering new surprises. That thrilling sensation made her hopelessly addicted. She wished she could cling to Bai Fu every day, but even someone as composed as her had to consider Anya and the others’ feelings.

On the seventh day, with Yulia’s help, Bai Fu successfully stacked three layers on the Heart of the Apostle.

“Whew, finally I can take a break. If this keeps up, I’m going to damage myself.”

Bai Fu paused her stacking attempts, though Yulia still seemed a bit reluctant, which made Bai Fu roll her eyes.

Still reluctant? You should know your body’s not even as sturdy as mine.

On the tenth day, while browsing the Player Community, Bai Fu saw that the officials had finally released the final promotional video for version 1.4.

Version 1.4 was the penultimate version before the Star Sea Version, and its name was [Final Tide]. Just from the name, it was clear that most of the Newbie Planets’ main storylines would wrap up in this version. Version 1.5 would be the transition from Newbie Planets to the Star Sea.

The official promotional video heavily emphasized the climax of the main storyline in its first half. The passionate BGM got Bai Fu’s heart racing—let alone the Players’.

But the video’s comment stream still had a few discordant voices.

【I don’t care about the main storyline—I just want Fu-fu!】

【Can’t wait anymore. Once the new version launches, I’m immediately signaling the Star Sea. Digging‑Treasure, don’t forget to send Fu-fu to save us after receiving the signal.】

There was no helping it. Players on Origin Star and Indigo Star were enjoying too many perks—it was hard for Players on other Newbie Planets not to feel envious.

In the second half of the official promo, the developers gave a preview of the Star Sea Version, editing in a large amount of Star Sea footage.

As a prominent figure in the Sea Lion System and the officially designated Regional Boss, Bai Fu appeared frequently in the second half. Bai Fu did a quick count and realized she appeared three more times than the second most featured character.

Most screen time, longest screen presence—wasn’t this exactly how a protagonist was treated?

And with Ulysses Star designated as the Player Main City—even though the officials hadn’t stated it outright—it was clearly a recognition of her “protagonist” status in the Sea Lion System.

“Excellent, excellent!”

Bai Fu was overjoyed.

At this point, all she lacked was a mission exclusive to her, and she could stand shoulder to shoulder with Vik, Elron, and Sui Xi as co-protagonists of the Sea Lion System.

“Snatching someone else’s mission isn’t easy. Best to create a main storyline mission of my own—just like on Origin Star!”

The main storyline mission had to be grand and eye-catching. Only then could she outshine the other protagonists and bask alone in the spotlight. Once she became the “only protagonist” of the Initial Gate Galaxy Cluster, it would be hard for the officials not to make her the poster girl.

Bai Fu casually browsed the comment section under the video, reading through the praise and fan-crazed remarks directed at her.

As she scrolled, she saw someone shout:

【Digging‑Treasure has released a new video—an analysis of Fu-fu’s role in the Star Sea Version. Everyone, go watch it!】

Excavation‑Princess?

Oh darling, your timing is impeccable!

Bai Fu immediately clicked the link, eager to see how Excavation‑Princess was hyping her up this time.
