Chapter 124: The Might of the Sovereign, an Episode of Bai Fu's Popularity Surge

The assassin’s sudden intrusion triggered a new quest for Bai Fu.

【Emergency Evasion】

【Quest Description: An unknown assassin has suddenly stormed into Bai Fu Town, directly targeting you】

【Quest Objective: Survive this hunt】

【Reward: 200,000 XP】

【Hidden Reward: ?】

The base reward of this quest could only be described as pathetic. As for the hidden reward, since she couldn’t see any specifics, Bai Fu could only hope for the best.

But even if the reward wasn’t great, it didn’t matter—right now, she just wanted to hit someone.

She had been passionately rallying the players when this fool decided to pick a fight. If she didn’t beat this guy to a pulp today, she’d do a headstand and wash her hair live on stream—with her feet!

Bai Fu had already used Psionic Vision to check the assassin’s stats.

Total level: 47. Main class: 【Shadow Assassin】, level 32. That was one level higher than her own main class. Judging by level alone, this assassin was a well-known figure across the entire Origin Star.

But fame could be vastly different.

Some people were called famous just because others wanted to trick them into working. Others were called famous because they truly were badass.

Compared to this assassin, Bai Fu’s stats were on a whole other level.

The assassin’s HP was 1,820, while hers was 3,440. His highest stat was Spirit at 123, but even her lower Constitution stat had already reached 124. Her base Inspiration was an astounding 173.

Fight me?

Bai Fu thought this was a great chance. She could use this assassin to test how high her refined damage output had reached—and let players witness what it meant to be the human Gundam, Bai Fu-class!

Ever since the monument ceremony, the player livestreams from Garden of Silence had racked up over a million total views. Even though a good portion of that was repeated traffic, there were still hundreds of thousands of eyes watching.

If she could put on a good show, she’d definitely attract even more players to Garden of Silence.

Now that the Origin Star Reconstruction Project had started, Bai Fu no longer held back. However many players came, she could take them all. Even if every single player on Origin Star joined Garden of Silence, she had ways to handle it.

She who aspired to be the one true protagonist—how could she be afraid of a mere flood of newcomers?

“Fu-fu, run!”

“Circle the pillar! Circle it—he can’t hit you then!”

“Steady Fu, don’t you dare fall here!”

Unlike Bai Fu’s calm, the surrounding players were panicking.

They couldn’t see the stat comparison between Bai Fu and the assassin. All they had was instinct—and right now, that instinct screamed danger. Usually, when the story reached this kind of point, it was time for some wild twist or broad-minded savior to appear.

What if the script really was that stupid? What if Bai Fu actually died...

Several players leapt in front of Bai Fu the instant the assassin raised his sniper rifle, hoping to block the bullet with their flesh and blood.

The assassin’s finger rested on the trigger, lips curling into a sneer.

His gun wasn’t ordinary. His bullets weren’t ordinary. And the bonuses he had stacked onto them were beyond what any average fool could imagine.

“You lot think you can stop my bullet?!”

In truth, the higher-ups hadn’t ordered him to kill Bai Fu—just to delay her and buy time for others.

But as a high-level esper, he had his pride.

That so-called new queen of the underworld? Only because he hadn’t joined the rankings. Now that he was here, queen or princess, they’d all kneel!

The bullet, loaded with layer upon layer of buffs, unleashed overwhelming pressure the moment it left the barrel. Players nearby even felt like being grazed by it would tear them to pieces.

What kind of monster was this?

That shot could demolish a building.

The players were overwhelmed. They didn’t even have time to worry about Bai Fu. In the next moment, a flash of white light burst before their eyes, and a deafening boom erupted at the center of the square.

As the dust from the explosion settled, every player watching was stunned—including the assassin who had fired the shot.

No one knew when Bai Fu had appeared in front of the few players who tried to shield her. There wasn’t a single scratch on her body, not even a wrinkle in her clothes. When she withdrew her outstretched right hand, a warped and twisted bullet slid from her palm, landing with a crisp clink on the ground.

“So this is your so-called finishing blow?”

Bai Fu swung her right hand and instantly pulled out five Prayer Cards.

Fond of sniping?

She could play that game too!

The cards flung out, transforming into five Void Energy Orbs.

After releasing Hei Fu and twenty-three Tiny Hei Fus, along with three Tiny Bai Fus, Bai Fu’s Inspiration had gained a 29-point boost. Now, her Inspiration had reached 202.

Each Void Energy Orb dealt a theoretical 202 damage. With five attacking together, that was 1,010 damage!

Black beams pierced through space, shooting at the assassin. He reacted quickly, dodging, but still got hit twice. Just as he found an opening between the orbs’ attacks and was about to counter, Bai Fu already had more Prayer Cards in hand.

Void Energy Orbs were limited to five summons—but Penetrating Spears had no limit!

Swish, swish, swish——

White streaks sliced through the air.

Penetrating Spears rained down one after another, forcing the assassin to roll and tumble in panic. When he finally dodged most of them, another wave of Void Energy Orbs was upon him, driving him into a flustered retreat.

【Holy crap, I was just praying Fu-fu wouldn’t die, and now the whole fight turned around】

【Same! I was calling him a monster earlier—but Fu-fu is the real monster here!】

【So this is advanced Psionic Class gameplay? This is the gold standard for Psionic Class mentors?】

【Absolutely badass! No need for micromanagement—just boom boom boom, throw skills. It’s a blessing for button-mashers!】

Originally, Bai Fu had just wanted to crush the assassin to show off her power and attract some players looking to latch onto a powerhouse. But things had developed beyond her expectations.

Bathed in the glow of five Void Energy Orbs, she strode calmly, flinging Penetrating Spears at the assassin with composed grace. This image—beating her opponent black and blue while walking like she was in a garden—ignited a frenzy of player chatter.

Elegant. Incredibly elegant!

【In the sovereign night, beneath the black moon, the spear of justice—Fu’s judgment!】

There were countless class options for players in the game, but most classes required a certain level of skill to fully unleash their damage potential. This left many players troubled—after all, skilled players were always the minority.

But now, thanks to Bai Fu’s performance, many players saw a new path.

From the livestream’s perspective, the Psionic Class wasn’t a support class at all—it was clearly a wheelchair class. No, a stretcher class!

Even players so bad they couldn’t dodge properly at least knew how to summon orbs, how to throw light spears, right?

Knowing that was enough. With just that knowledge, they could join other players in Challenge Instances or hunt wild monsters. They’d stand in the back and finish the damage rotation. Whether they lived or died afterward didn’t matter—if they survived and squeezed out an extra round of damage, great; if not, oh well.

【That’s it, this is my dream job class!】

【Want to learn Psionic Class? Come to Bai Fu Town in Goli Desert and find Bai Fu!】

【Wait for me, I want to join Fu Sect too!】

The live‑stream comments were going crazy, and the assassin was about to be driven insane by Bai Fu as well.

He was focused, perceptive, and fast. This allowed him to barely keep up despite the triple assault of Void Energy Orb, Penetrating Spear, and Extra-dimensional Erosion, narrowly dodging and holding out.

But this kind of dodging wouldn’t last. Sooner or later, he would be worn down to death.

Since he couldn’t escape, he might as well go all in. With his high burst damage, as long as he reached Bai Fu, he could surely turn the tide!

When the Void Energy Orbs hit a lull in their attack rhythm, the assassin charged through the Penetrating Spears, charging at Bai Fu with flashy S‑tier movement.

He was incredibly fast. Within seconds, he had repositioned over a dozen times and closed the distance to just three meters from Bai Fu.

“Stunning Soul!”

A bizarre psychic shockwave spread out like a giant net toward Bai Fu.

But Bai Fu acted even before he did.

That bastard had stepped right onto the monument etched with player names during his charge, making it shake. Thankfully, the monument was solid enough not to crack.

Even so, Bai Fu was furious. She had spent more than half a month getting that monument set up!

Dare touch my monument?

I’m freaking done with you!

She launched a Psionic Burst with her left hand and cast Dark Burn with her right.

【You’ve been hit by Psychic Shock. Received 272 damage. 20% of the damage has been redirected to Hei Fu. You are now under [Intimidated] status for 5 seconds.】

Intimidated reduced movement speed and defense.

As Bai Fu took the full brunt of Stunning Soul, her Psionic Burst and Dark Burn hit the assassin simultaneously.

Four consecutive damage hits slammed into the assassin’s face, reducing it to a bloody pulp with bone showing.

In just one second, the total damage numbers floating above his head broke 1,000.

Thanks to a Special Talent, 15% of the damage Bai Fu dealt was reflected back to her and applied an Explosion Mark on her, meaning the assassin’s next attack would deal extra damage.

But none of that mattered anymore.

After taking Bai Fu’s full burst combo, the assassin’s HP dropped below 400. Next to his name, debuffs like 【Dark Burn】, 【Severely Injured】, and 【Weakened】 appeared one after another, tanking his stats.

He collapsed, basically crippled.

Bai Fu signaled the Void Energy Orbs to pause: “Who sent you?”

The fallen assassin’s eyes were full of terror and disbelief. He had never imagined such a huge gap between him and Bai Fu. Weren’t they both high-level espers?

“With that level, you thought you could kill me? Wishful thinking.” Bai Fu spread the fingers of her right hand.

The assassin clenched his jaw. He could no longer launch a new psychic attack, so he simply roared, “Truth is eternal!”

“From the Truth Society?”

Bai Fu curled her lips. A torrent of psionic energy erupted from her palm, blasting the assassin in the face. His head dissolved instantly under the force, leaving only a headless corpse lying cold and alone in the plaza.

【You killed assassin ??? and gained 350,000 XP】

【You completed the quest [Emergency Evasion], gained 200,000 XP】

【Hidden objective to kill assassin ??? completed. Additional reward: 300,000 XP, and Blueprint [Hidden Stinger]】

Hidden Stinger was a Mechanic blueprint. Once learned, it allowed the crafting of a purple-quality sniper rifle. Bai Fu couldn’t use it, but she could definitely add it to the shop to attract players.

The fight on this end was over, but elsewhere in Bai Fu Town, several more explosions erupted.

They didn’t last long. After all, Bai Fu had already stationed Hei Fu, Tiny Hei Fus, and Tiny Bai Fus in ambush positions around the area. Those lurking in the shadows weren’t nearly as strong as the assassin she just defeated. The moment they approached Anya's Mysterious Shop, they were taken down on the spot, then escorted over by Hei Fu and a bunch of Tiny True Spirits.

Staring at the bruised and battered assassins, the players were speechless.

Just how many seconds had passed? A whole assassination attempt was resolved that easily. They all knew Bai Fu was strong—but they had never imagined she was this strong. This was dimensional suppression.

So this was the power of a main story protagonist?

Joining Garden of Silence was definitely the right move!

Bai Fu’s battle footage began spreading through the Community.

【Power of a Class Mentor】

【Power of the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night】

Bai Fu clapped her hands calmly and walked up to the assassins restrained by Hei Fu: “Who sent you?”

Just like the previous one, all of them responded with the same phrase: “Truth is eternal!”

“That’s your answer?”

Bai Fu had no interest in playing interrogation games. One Psionic Burst each—she finished off all the captives.

She didn’t really believe their words anyway. After all, she herself had impersonated the Truth Society before.

If she could do it, so could anyone. The Truth Society was a catch-all scapegoat.

Judging by their strength, they were definitely from one of the Five Major Factions. Was the Truth Society really here for revenge, or was another faction trying to drive a wedge between her and the Truth Society?

Bai Fu’s assessment: Who cares.

Even without provocation, she would fight the Truth Society. As for the other factions, she planned to fight the Gene Primordials too. The Old Republic might be different, but if she uncovered anything, she’d wipe them out for the sake of the Origin Star Reconstruction Project.

She had already beaten up three of the Five Major Factions. The remaining two, even if they wanted trouble, better think twice about whether they had the strength.

Bai Fu returned to the center of the plaza. After that battle, her popularity skyrocketed. Even removing duplicates, there were definitely over a million players crammed into the livestream rooms. With five strongholds mostly completed, she could now settle Branch 3 and Branch 4 of 【Elegy of the Watchers】. So she decided to officially issue missions for investigating the Truth Society and the Gene Primordials.

War was coming—how could she stay out of it?

These assassins’ arrival gave her the perfect excuse to target the Truth Society.

With her announcement, all Garden of Silence players received a new faction quest.

【Investigate the Truth Society】

It was here. Version 1.2’s main storyline was finally beginning!

The players were thrilled.

But that wasn’t all. After the assembly, Bai Fu sought out those with especially high faction reputation and gave them secret missions. They were to infiltrate the Gene Primordials and investigate everything from Xia Shi’s status to Psionic Research Institute No. 3 Subdivision’s condition, and the whereabouts of the third Obsidian Shard.

“These quests are extremely important. Do not leak any info. Got it?”

Sword Qi Soaring and Black Bastard exchanged a glance, their eyes locking in passionate determination.

“Got it.”
