Chapter 30 "Exit"
Chapter 30 "Exit"
"So, what do you mean? You don't actually think that committing suicide by bullet is a way to leave the company? Do you have any evidence?"
Lu Chen said dejectedly that he had of course considered this possibility, but even if he had, there was no way to prove it. If he failed, it would just be a waste of the life-saving bullet.
Fang Jin also had absolutely no chance to prove that, so far, none of her teammates had been eliminated because of being shot, and even Jin Fugui, who was originally the closest, died because of the cafeteria rules.
"How is that possible? The outer shell of this blood bullet is very brittle. It's essentially a container for liquid. That red liquid is the key to killing vampires and is completely harmless to humans."
Fang Jin smiled and put away his gun. He had been testing bullets much earlier than Jin Fugui, which was why he wasted two of them on his first try.
"So the exit is not death at all, but the certificate itself, the 'consumption of bullets'."
Fang Jin's voice suddenly became solemn. She reached out and opened the magazine, pouring out the two remaining blood bullets, their vibrant and beautiful color almost breathtaking.
"Remember what that female office worker said at the beginning? This is a tour and experience; the pistol will be your pass, and the only credential for you to move around the company premises..."
"There are only six bullets, and red is our favorite color... We use them to exchange for different 'benefits' from different employees... to ensure a smooth and safe visit."
"What does this mean? It just reveals the instant-kill rule of bullets, but it's vague, overly rhetorical, and there are only a mere six bullets..."
Did she mention what would happen after it was used up?
Fang Jin suddenly interrupted, and Lu Chen was stunned for a moment, then his whole body immediately stiffened.
He had never considered this perspective. Being disqualified was only one aspect; no one wanted to waste such a life-or-death opportunity, and it was usually only used as a last resort.
The later the game went, the greater the pressure from the Blood Tide Blood Demons became, and Lu Chen cherished his last one or two bullets even more, not firing them even in the face of such an urgent situation on the ladder.
But now, reinterpreting the first sentence from a different perspective, who said that being stripped of visitor privileges would lead to death? If we interpret it in the most optimistic and superficial way...
Could I interpret this as... the pistol being a visit pass, and emptying the barrel signifying the end of the workplace visit, at which point they should log out of the instance and leave Beast Corporation?
"The idea of cherishing bullets, from the initial reluctance to waste them to the later subconscious refusal to use them, is what hindered us from discovering the truth about the exit. In fact, leaving the instance is very simple."
"Remember the riddle at the beginning of the meeting room? The five-minute trap was actually a hint at this fundamental question. The way to find the answer is just a simple word game."
Essentially, for Lu Chen and his group, this was still just a beginner's dungeon. Although the presence of the stowaways made the dungeon so difficult that even experienced players would likely fail.
But in order to help these unfortunate newcomers, difficulties and simplicity must coexist. The actual way to leave has always been at their disposal... you just need to "see" it.
Fang Jin realized this quite late. He faced an even greater level of cognitive manipulation than Lu Chen; the system subconsciously made him believe that the final test's difficulty was to be as it should be, and anything less would be abnormal.
This caused him to overlook the trap initially set in the rules, until Xu Rou fired the last bullet to kill Jin Fugui, at which point he truly confirmed the truth of his conjecture.
"So... Xu Rou didn't actually die?"
"Of course she's not dead. Although it was a fluke, she was the first player among us to successfully complete the dungeon. Right now, she's probably lying in the results room looking completely bewildered, wondering how she's still alive."
"..."
"call……"
At this point, Lu Chen was finally able to relax completely. Although the process had been quite bumpy, the ending was ultimately a happy one. As for the deaths of the Jin brothers... well, that was hardly a regret.
No wonder Lu Chen didn't see any anxiety or despair in Fang Jin along the way; it turns out he had successfully deconstructed the truth of the instance and could escape at any time.
"If you had known in advance, you should have told me sooner..." he said with a helpless smile, then stood up and reached for the pistol in his clothes, while scanning the Beast Corporation members around him.
Once I relaxed, my perspective on Beast Corporation changed. The despair I felt earlier seemed unreal, and I felt as if I were walking on clouds.
Moreover, this is the upper level of the instance in a free-floating state, where the quality of equipment and skills is incomparable to the previous levels. Furthermore, the staff from earlier showed no hostility towards them, and Lu Chen even considered going up to explore...
"..."
"Where's my gun?"
Lu Chen's fingertips trembled suddenly. He couldn't feel the familiar metallic texture, and even the blue cotton thread had disappeared from the seams of his shirt. His heartbeat quickened several times over.
Lu Chen even tore open his white shirt in public, exposing his bare chest to the air, but after searching every corner, he still couldn't find a trace of the pistol or bullets.
"...Little Fang Jin, do you remember what I just said? I haven't finished explaining the third point about the knowledge of free-state copies yet."
"I don't have time to listen to your nonsense right now. Where did my gun go? I had it in my hand the whole time when the protests hit the reservoir, how could it suddenly be gone..."
His growl abruptly stopped, because what Zhou Tongtong was toying with in her fingertips was a familiar blue rope, but the gun handle that should have been inside the coil was still nowhere to be found.
"you……"
"Do you remember Jin Fugui's last desperate struggle after we entered the cafeteria and chose the offering for the bakers? He shouldn't have had any impact on us..."
"But I helped him out a little. My position at the reservoir was perfect. I heated the coil behind you until it softened and fell off easily... It was very easy."
"He successfully knocked your pistol into the kitchen before gloriously sacrificing himself. What seemed like an insignificant move at the time has now become your death warrant."
As her face drew closer, a shadow fell over the girl's pure and beautiful smile. She gently brushed aside the strands of hair that had fallen by her ear, and Lu Chen's heart nearly stopped from beating with fear.
"You want to harm me? Why? What grudge do I have against you... against all of you?"
He categorized Fang Jin and Zhou Tongtong as being in the same camp, because the former showed no surprise whatsoever, only watching the scene helplessly with her arms crossed, before sighing softly:
"The third characteristic of detached instances is that they are dangerous, enclosed, and isolated. In team mode, they may also attract unidentified creatures."
"A disguised human, a mutated organism, a mind alterer, a puppet manipulated by a higher being..."
"And illegal immigrants."
