Chapter 393: The Third Meeting
Chapter 393: The Third Meeting
"I don’t understand what you’re saying." Eliza Hayes put the things back in the bag and casually threw it onto the table. "Did you come back just to pick a fight?"
Adrian Lancaster didn’t feel he was at fault, so he didn’t have any intention of apologizing.
"I will find out the truth." Adrian stared at her, gave a cold smile, "This is just the first step."
Truth be told, the words made Eliza nervous, but she tried to keep it under control.
The mother and son stared at each other, an air of incompatibility hung between them.
Soon, footsteps were heard, and Old Master Lancaster appeared at the doorway with two subordinates, "Adrian’s here?"
Adrian’s gaze softened a little when looking towards the older man, "Grandfather."
"You should apologize to your mom." The old man gave him a thumbs up, "No matter how things went down, it didn’t affect Faye or the child."
"Grandfather, you’re wrong," Adrian cut him off, "Faye was frightened, which might affect the child’s personality. I didn’t pursue legal actions, nor involve the police or lawyers. That’s already very magnanimous."
Grandfather was speechless.
So, what he meant was, an apology was impossible.
The words made Eliza’s face turn pale, leaving her feeling powerless and embarrassed.
Old Master Lancaster leaned on his dragon-headed cane, feeling a mix of emotions internally.
Adrian glanced at the report on the table and turned to the elderly man, "Grandfather, I’ll come back another day to visit you. Faye’s emotions are unstable lately; I need to spend more time with her. Sorry, I must leave now."
After speaking, he left without looking back.
Grandfather didn’t stop him, instead looked at Eliza and then at the bag on the coffee table, "What’s this?" he pointed.
The middle-aged woman felt guilty, quickly stood up, and grabbed his arm, speaking with grievance, "Dad, look at him, having grown wings now to treat me this way?"
"Look at the things you’ve done; you’ve indeed hurt his feelings." The old man angrily pulled her hand away, "Reflect on it!" He turned and left, leaning on his cane.
After the old man left, Eliza vented all her anger on Nanny Warren.
Nanny Warren didn’t expect Miss Turner hadn’t stopped him?
As evening approached.
Rachel Sherman and Chase Fletcher sat in a newly opened Chinese restaurant, having ordered a few dishes, the conversation between them was lively.
It wasn’t a planned meeting; they had just run into each other at the mall entrance next door.
"Mr. Fletcher, thank you so much," Rachel raised her juice glass towards him. The first time he helped was at the newspaper office entrance when Dylan Shaw was harassing her.
The second encounter was in Faye Turner’s hospital room; the editor kept urging her, but downstairs she couldn’t get a cab back to the office, and it was this man who drove her there.
Chase Fletcher also raised his juice, lightly clinking glasses with her, "It’s our third meeting, isn’t it?"
"Yes."
"Meeting three times and now having a meal together, our bond isn’t shallow," Chase smiled, quite happy, "Are you Mrs. Lancaster’s close friend?"
"We’ve been good friends since middle school."
The man smiled, put down the juice and picked up his chopsticks, "Small world indeed. I met Adrian in middle school too, hit it off pretty well over the years."
"How have you been lately? You look much better; has your relationship improved?" Chase picked up dishes, occasionally glancing up at her, "A good relationship can truly nourish a woman."
Rachel smiled slightly, "I’ve divorced him."
"..." The man was slightly taken aback, a bit incredulous but nodded, and said with a smile, "Quite fast, no haggling over it."
"Thanks to Evan Sharp’s help, introduced by President Lancaster." Rachel began eating as well.
"Evan Sharp?"
