When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster

Chapter 298: Everyone’s Waiting to See the Joke

Chapter 298: Everyone’s Waiting to See the Joke

Upstairs, in the president’s office, Adrian Lancaster couldn’t help but keep browsing through the various absurd comments online, the more he looked, the angrier he got!

But he himself was the one who started all this!

Even though he was angry, he could only bottle it up! He couldn’t exactly beat himself up; presidents are supposed to be infallible! Even if a mistake is made, it must be someone else’s fault.

His anxiety stemmed from thinking about Faye Turner’s current feelings.

Yet his pride made him hesitate.

After much deliberation, he managed to muster enough courage to find her number, intending to call her, but he couldn’t figure out what to say when the moment came.

After hesitating for a full two minutes, he eventually didn’t press the call button, instead throwing himself onto the couch by the window in frustration, crossing his legs.

He took a deep breath and glanced at the clouds moving outside the window, then opened her WeChat.

He edited and deleted his messages several times.

After wrestling with himself for most of the day, Adrian still hadn’t made a call or sent a message, making his expression even more sullen.

Downstairs, in the large office of the design department, Faye Turner was genuinely very upset, but she didn’t show a hint of it.

She was strong and brave, neither servile nor overbearing.

She didn’t want to become a laughing stock.

She finally endured until lunchtime and turned off the computer, getting up and leaving the office. The situation hadn’t improved, though, since she was bound to encounter employees from other departments, and everyone in the company knew her.

"Hello, Mrs. Lancaster."

"Hello, Mrs. Lancaster."

Those who saw her greeted her as usual, but everyone’s gaze lingered on her for a few extra seconds, seemingly observing her expression or trying to discern her feelings.

Faye Turner would smile and nod to everyone as she usually did, as if unaffected by the news.

The Prestige Group’s cafeteria was like an outside restaurant, divided into a Chinese and Western section, with an elegant environment, thoughtful service, and excellent cuisine.

Faye Turner carried her tray to a booth and sat down.

On the plate were some rice, shredded potatoes, slices of beef, cucumber salad, corn ribs, a fruit serving, and a bottle of yogurt.

The cafeteria lady deliberately brought over a bowl of soup.

"Thank you."

"You’re welcome, Mrs. Lancaster."

After the lady left, Faye Turner ate her rice sadly, unconsciously zoning out; she couldn’t suppress the sadness in her heart.

Adrian Lancaster’s hurtful comments echoed repeatedly in her mind like a recorder.

She ate her meal in solitude until another tray appeared in her line of sight, softly placed across from her.

Faye Turner raised her eyes and saw Serena Sutton sitting down opposite her.

Their gazes met briefly.

"I heard today’s spicy shredded potatoes are really tasty," Serena Sutton smiled at her. "The lady mentioned they switched to a new chef whose specialty is this dish."

Faye raised the corners of her lips slightly, picked up a bit of shredded potatoes and put it in her mouth, chewing lightly, then gave her evaluation, "Mm, quite good."

Serena sipped her soup with a smile. "Pretty good, right! I like it too! Time to dig in, I’m starving—I woke up late and skipped breakfast!" She then joyfully focused on eating without opening up any more topics.

With someone accompanying her, Faye Turner wasn’t as awkward anymore.

The two of them continued eating, occasionally meeting each other’s gaze with smiles on their faces, creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

After finishing their meal and exiting the cafeteria, they hadn’t yet reached the company lobby when they encountered Adrian Lancaster standing facing them.

They stopped in their tracks and looked at him.

He didn’t have his hands in his pockets, wearing a perfectly tailored black suit, standing tall, exuding remarkable aura and unique elegance.

Completely ignoring Serena Sutton, his gaze fell on his wife.

Serena, being perceptive, didn’t even greet, promptly stepping away.

Faye Turner and Adrian Lancaster both came to a halt, standing less than two meters apart.

The headlines from the news and public scrutiny invisibly surged between them, filling both of their minds.

"Today..."

"Wait a moment..."

They spoke simultaneously, then both paused, causing Faye’s heart to skip a beat.

Gazing at each other without looking away, the atmosphere became somewhat... subtle.

"You go first," Adrian Lancaster said in a low voice, masking the turmoil in his heart.
