Chapter 498: Clingy Like a Plaster (Part 8)
Su Anle was in the hotel room, her usual calmness replaced by unease, as she sat on the sofa, ignoring the sizzling of the coffee machine.
After a long while, she heard the sound of the door opening, and she suddenly stood up.
Shen Jiyan pushed the door open and came in, giving her a slight smile, "Still awake?"
"No, Ji Yan, what did you tell him?"
Su Anle looked at Shen Jiyan with calm eyes, and Shen Jiyan changed into slippers, merely chuckling, "I asked him for a favor, I’ve lost track of her again, and here, Jianan is more convenient for me."
Su Anle breathed a long sigh of relief; she didn’t want Sheng Jianan to know about those matters, fearing that if he did, things might become entangled again between them.
Of course, there was an even deeper reason, one she didn’t want to dwell on.
"Anle, what are you afraid I’ll say to him?"
Shen Jiyan suddenly spoke. Su Anle was taken aback, then shook her head, "Nothing."
"Anle, are you afraid I’ll tell him about the car accident? What are you afraid of? Afraid he’ll cling to you, sympathize with you, or...?"
The deeper reason in Su Anle’s heart was being spoken aloud, word by word, by Shen Jiyan.
"Or are you afraid if it turns out to be the doing of the Sheng Family or Shen Yao, and he does nothing about it?"
The thoughts buried deep in her heart were laid bare, and Su Anle’s expression changed slightly, but she quickly regained her composure, looking at Shen Jiyan with calm eyes, "I really don’t want to bring up what happened back then."
Shen Jiyan stepped forward, reached out to hold Su Anle’s shoulders, "Anle, muster some courage, regardless of whether you want to face the past, it has nothing to do with your feelings. You said you wish for peace and joy for the rest of your life, but if you’re not with him, you might have peace, but you won’t have joy."
Su Anle watched Shen Jiyan calmly, his more pronounced features shimmering under the light.
"In your heart, there’s a grave, burying those who never died. Nothing can torment a person more than that."
After Shen Jiyan finished speaking, he patted Su Anle’s shoulder and turned to return to his room.
The night was as cool as water. Su Anle lay on the bed, her eyes on the ceiling. Over the past few days, her temper was nearly worn out by a certain persistent presence.
She resisted his closeness and ubiquity but had to admit she didn’t dislike it.
She resisted because she didn’t want any entanglements with him again, yet the entanglement itself didn’t make her feel repulsed.
Her mind was in chaos, truly chaotic.
Sheng Jianan wasn’t with Shen Yao, yet they had clearly been apart for three years; how had they not ended up together?
Had Sheng Jianan really been waiting for her all these three years?
With countless thoughts in her mind, Su Anle finally fell asleep as dawn approached.
She had no idea how long she slept; by the time she awoke, Su Weiyi was no longer in bed.
Pushing open the bedroom door, she heard laughter. Sheng Jianan and Su Weiyi were sitting on the sofa, doing something unknown. As soon as they saw her come out, Su Weiyi hid what was in his hand behind him, while Sheng Jianan cooperated fully, the two of them being mysterious.
"Mom, Dad... Uncle, have breakfast."
Su Anle turned and went back to the bedroom bathroom to freshen up. While brushing her teeth, she walked to the bedside cabinet to check her phone. Her eyes shifted slightly, catching a glimpse of a bag in the corner. It was the one Sheng Jianan had given Su Weiyi on the day they were discharged from the hospital. She had seen it a few times since, with Su Weiyi holding something from the bag and laughing foolishly but refusing to let her see it.
