Nevertheless, Tang Yanqi did not show any weakness as she met Shen Yao’s gaze, smiling slightly, "Sure."

Since it was a matter to discuss, they naturally wouldn’t meet at the company cafeteria. Just past noon, Tang Yanqi received a call from Shen Yao, inviting her to a Western restaurant on the top floor of a large mall next to Shengshi.

When Tang Yanqi arrived, Shen Yao was already there, with a cup of coffee before her, looking elegant and composed.

"Miss Tang, please have a seat."

Tang Yanqi smiled and sat down. The server came to take their order, and Tang Yanqi, not wanting to waste any words, got straight to the point, "Miss Shen, what did you want to tell me?"

Shen Yao elegantly took a sip of the coffee in front of her and smiled slightly, "Miss Tang, there’s no need to be so tense. I just wanted to talk about some matters regarding Jianan. Let’s eat first and talk as we eat."

The lunch hour wasn’t long, so both Tang Yanqi and Shen Yao ordered dishes that were served relatively quickly. Shen Yao cut into the steak on her plate, took a bite, chewed it, and commented, "This steak is overcooked."

Tang Yanqi wasn’t sure why she suddenly mentioned this. She wasn’t picky about steak; as long as it was edible, it was fine.

"He likes his steak medium-rare, prefers filet over sirloin."

Tang Yanqi paused, her eyebrows furrowing slightly. She watched as Shen Yao took another bite of salad and continued, "He likes salads, all sorts of salads, but he doesn’t like cherry tomatoes in them."

"He likes espresso, not cappuccino."

"He prefers Western cuisine over Chinese, doesn’t really like hot pot, and especially doesn’t like Sichuan peppercorns."

After listing about seven or eight preferences, Shen Yao finally looked at Tang Yanqi, "Miss Tang, these are all Jianan’s preferences. I hope they can serve as a reference for you."

Tang Yanqi’s frown deepened as she spoke directly without hesitation, "Miss Shen, what do you mean by telling me all this? Are you trying to intimidate me?"

Shen Yao maintained her gentle smile, "Miss Tang, you’ve misunderstood. There is no need for intimidation between us. Back when my family faced difficulties, I had no choice but to leave when he needed me most. I know he’s been upset with me, and I also know he won’t forgive me."

As Shen Yao spoke, a bitter sadness appeared in her eyes, and a self-mocking smile curled her lips, "Miss Tang, your marriage to Jianan was arranged by his grandfather. He can’t defy it, and I suppose neither can you. I don’t blame him, nor do I blame you. I’m telling you these things in hopes that you can understand him better and take good care of him."

Shen Yao’s words were lofty and righteous. Tang Yanqi’s eyes were clear, her tightly furrowed brow relaxing. She smiled without losing ground and said, "I am his rightful wife. Do you think it’s appropriate for Miss Shen to intentionally come and tell me these things?"

"What’s inappropriate? You are his wife, and I am his beloved. Miss Tang, there’s no need to overthink things. Since you are already married, I won’t ruin anything for you. Besides, true love cannot be destroyed. Jianan doesn’t forgive me, and I only wish to make amends. You may choose to listen to what I say or not, as if I never said it."

Shen Yao’s voice was as gentle and composed as her demeanor, yet it sounded quite unsettling to Tang Yanqi.

It was as if she were actually Sheng Jianan’s lawful wife and Tang Yanqi was merely the third party disrupting their love.

"Miss Tang, even though Jianan is your husband, you cannot erase his place in my heart. If you insist on believing that I am trying to intimidate you and it displeases you, feel free to report me. I don’t mind."
