Chapter 280: Tang Yanqi’s Family Background (Part 10)
After leaving Shengshi Group, Tang Yanqi directed the way, leading Sheng Jianan to a small but brightly lit alley. Once the car stopped, Sheng Jianan had barely set one foot on the ground when his beautifully shaped eyebrows already furrowed.
Looking down at the ground, Sheng Jianan saw that there was no lighting, and the path was shrouded in darkness, obscuring his vision. However, Young Master Sheng distinctly felt something sticky adhering to his shoes, akin to the sensation caused by long-term oil grime.
Sheng Jianan’s expression darkened as he immediately guessed what kind of place Tang Yanqi had brought him to. Without further thought, Sheng Jianan decisively retracted his foot, which had already stepped out, before turning to look at the person next to him who hadn’t gotten out of the car yet: "Let’s go somewhere else."
Tang Yanqi smiled, "There’s a lot of delicious food here."
"Tang! Yan! Qi!"
Sheng Jianan articulated each syllable slowly. Was this woman doing it on purpose? He hadn’t forgotten the last time when he ate the gutter oil food she brought back, which made him have an upset stomach all night.
Tang Yanqi was clearly doing it on purpose too, watching Sheng Jianan’s expression as if he had eaten a fly, she couldn’t help but burst into laughter, momentarily casting aside all unhappiness. At the moment, all she could see was someone looking deflated.
Sheng Jianan squinted. Clearly, this woman was deliberately trying to provoke him. Did she think he wouldn’t be able to deal with her because of this?
He reopened the car door, ignoring the sticky feeling on his foot, and moved around to the other side to open Tang Yanqi’s door: "Food!"
Tang Yanqi still wore a smile on her face as she got out of the car, and the two of them strolled leisurely from one end of the alley to the other.
Having grown up with the best of everything, Sheng Jianan lacked nothing in such a wealthy family, especially not money. Thus, he never cared about material possessions. However, at this moment, Young Master Sheng was utterly distressed over his Italian handcrafted leather shoes.
Walking on such a road was akin to wearing an expensive evening gown while trudging through a muddy swamp.
However, it didn’t take long for Sheng Jianan to realize there was one advantage to such a place: no one recognized him. At most, he would just hear the vendors express their admiration for his appearance, though that was rare. After all, the people setting up stalls here were merely making a living; they only focused on making money to support their families, without caring about who the customers were.
"Girl, you’re here again? What are you having today? The usual?"
Along the way, Tang Yanqi paused in front of several food stalls but didn’t buy anything. It wasn’t until they reached a spot under a red umbrella further down that they stopped.
Sheng Jianan was startled by the vendor’s words. That tone... did Tang Yanqi come here often?
After realizing how Tang Yanqi had suffered from gender bias in the Tang Family, Sheng Jianan was used to anything about her that didn’t resemble a pampered heiress. Hearing this now, he was merely surprised, especially since this place was far from both K University and the Tang Family’s home.
Could it be that Tang Yanqi would go so far just for a meal?
Tang Yanqi smiled at the vendor, "Yes, the usual, um..."
As she spoke, Tang Yanqi turned to glance at Sheng Jianan. She initially wanted to ask what he’d like to eat, as the vendor only sold mala soup, but customers could choose their own ingredients. However, seeing him in his lordly manner, Tang Yanqi wisely swallowed her words.
Sheng Jianan probably never had this kind of street food in his life, so asking would be pointless.
"The usual, two portions, one with extra noodles."
"Sure, just a moment."
