When 'God' Decides To Start Over

Chapter 711 288 Spring of Evil_2

Chapter 711 288 Spring of Evil_2

The statue of the postman in front of the post office depicts a mailman with one foot on a pedal, about to mount a bicycle, while another staff member sits behind a counter inside.

The group wandered around the post office but didn't find anything of value. It seemed that other Trial Takers had already visited, though these ones were quite orderly and didn't leave a mess.

"Do you think there might be any letters in this mailbox?" Chu Jun asked, eyeing the mailbox outside the entrance after they exited the post office.

"Even if there were, they must have been taken already," Wan Chaojue replied.

Unfazed, Chu Jun walked over to the mailbox. Peering through the letter slot, it was clear there was nothing to be seen inside.

"See anything?" Li Xiu walked over and inquired.

"Didn't see anything inside. Not sure if it's already been searched or if there was never anything there," Chu Jun said helplessly.

Li Xiu also leaned in for a look. Though the slot was small, it allowed a view of most of the interior, and truly, there was nothing visible.

"The mailbox itself is made of metal, perhaps it could fetch a price or two. Let's take it down and bring it back," Li Xiu said as he summoned the Black Death Demon to dismantle the mailbox.

Wan Chaoxin and the others watched with complex expressions. A Commander even going after a mailbox was the sort of thing usually done by ordinary Trial Takers.

The treasures of the Demon Kingdom are abundant, but ordinary items like these are worth very little. Those with some status wouldn't waste their time on such things.

In no time, the Black Death Demon pulled the entire mailbox out and slung it upside down over his shoulder.

"Hey, it sounds like there's something inside. I heard a noise," Chu Jun said as he approached.

Li Xiu instructed the Black Death Demon to shake the mailbox, and sure enough, there was a sound. Upon closer inspection, there was indeed a letter inside.

Extracting it from within, they found the envelope to be black, inscribed with white Demon Text, and a stamp affixed to one corner.

The stamp depicted a city gate, seemingly resembling the gates of Celestial City.

"What does it say on it?" Chu Jun asked, eyeing the Demon Text on the envelope.

This stumped the group. Apart from Zhou Wen, none of them understood Demon Text; they were all illiterate in it.

"This is a letter addressed to the City Lord of the City of Kindness," Li Xiu said after examining the Demon Text.

"Fourth Master knows Demon Text?" Wan Chaojue asked in surprise.

"If Fourth Master didn't know Demon Text, how could he have devised the Light Planting Technique? Use your brain," Wan Chaohua retorted with a sneer.

Li Xiu smiled, "There's no name on it, so we don't know who sent it to the City Lord of the City of Kindness. But considering the stamp, it might have come from Celestial City."

"Open it up and see what's written inside," Chu Jun said, curious.

Li Xiu unfolded the envelope, revealing just a single thin sheet of paper, but it was densely filled with Demon Text.

Everyone eagerly watched Li Xiu, the Demon Text symbols looking vaguely familiar to them, yet they had no idea what they meant.

After reading through it, Li Xiu said with a hint of confusion, "How strange."

"What's strange?" Chu Jun pressed him.

"This seems to be a warning letter to the City Lord of the City of Kindness, stating that the Bottomless Pit has dispatched a terrifying evil spirit to destroy the City of Kindness, urging the City Lord to prepare early," Li Xiu explained.

"The Bottomless Pit from the Four Major Forbidden Zones?" Wan Chaojue exclaimed in shock. "If someone is warning us, it must mean they knew beforehand. Could it be that there are spies in the Bottomless Pit among the Demon Kingdom people? But how could humans possibly serve as spies in such a mysterious land of evil spirits?"

"It shouldn't have been sent from outside the city; this mailbox is for city residents to post letters. It must have been someone within the city who put it in," Li Xiu reasoned.

"That's strange. If someone in the city knew about this intel, why not inform the City Lord directly instead of posting it here? Did the sender leave a name?" Wan Chaoxin asked.

"For something like this, it's unlikely they'd leave a name," Chu Jun remarked.

"Actually, there is a name, but it seems more like a code name. At the bottom, it's signed 'Butterfly,'" Li Xiu said, looking at the bottom of the letter.

"Does it say what kind of evil spirit has come to the City of Kindness? Could it be related to that Prince Statue?" Wan Chaojue inquired.

"There's no detailed information on the evil spirit; it just mentions that it's a very terrifying one, personally dispatched by the King of the Bottomless Pit. I guess the person who reported it didn't know what kind of evil spirit it was either," Li Xiu replied after another look.

"It seems the City Lord never received this letter, or else the City of Kindness wouldn't have ended up like this. It's odd; if these Demon Kingdom people were indeed turned into this state by the evil spirit dispatched from the Bottomless Pit, then having achieved its goal of city destruction, why hasn't it returned to the Bottomless Pit? Or could it be that the happenings around the Prince Statue have nothing to do with the evil spirit from the Bottomless Pit, and the City of Kindness wasn't destroyed by that evil spirit?"

The group pondered over this but couldn't come to any conclusions.

"If the happenings around the Prince Statue truly are caused by an evil spirit, and it can destroy a city, its power must be extraordinary, beyond what we can contend with. Staying here serves no purpose and might even be dangerous," Wan Chaoxin suggested, looking towards Li Xiu. "Fourth Master, we should return for now."
