Chapter 584 - 246 Light Foundation Establishment
"How come in such a big yard, you don’t even have a servant to tidy things up?" Li Xiu asked while munching on a lamb chop.
In Longevity City, having a servant isn’t a rare thing. Many people in Wansheng Town want to enter Longevity City, even if it means becoming a servant.
The four great families have plenty of servants, and Li Qingyi is at least the sole daughter of the chairman. How come she has no servants in her garden?
Li Qingyi poured herself a drink, downed it in one go, and played with her cup as she said, "When you’re alone, you can do whatever you want. Why let an outsider see my embarrassing side?"
"Let’s hear it, what embarrassing things have you done?" Li Xiu took a bite of meat followed by a sip of wine, genuinely feeling a bit hungry.
"There are countless things. What do you want to hear? I’ll make something up for you on the spot." Li Qingyi said as she poured herself another glass.
"Forget it if you don’t want to say it. What do you mean by making things up?" Li Xiu said.
"You should cherish someone willing to make up stories for you. If you were insignificant, who would waste so many brain cells to create stories for you?" Li Qingyi raised her glass towards Li Xiu. "Don’t just focus on eating; drink as well."
"I’m drinking, aren’t I?" Li Xiu clinked glasses with her, and they both drank it all.
As Li Qingyi was pouring wine, she said, "I would love to have someone tell me stories, but unfortunately, from childhood to now, there hasn’t been anyone to make up stories for me."
"What about your parents? Why don’t you live with them? Why do you live alone in this garden?" Li Xiu asked.
"I never met my mom. I heard she died during childbirth. As for my dad, even if I lived in the City Lord’s Mansion, I wouldn’t see much of him throughout the year, so what’s the difference in where I live?" Li Qingyi swirled the wine in her cup and smiled.
"Then you’re really free. Let’s drink to your freedom." Li Xiu clinked glasses with Li Qingyi again, and they drank it all.
"What about you? Do you have anyone in your family?" Li Qingyi asked, looking at Li Xiu.
"I’m an orphan," Li Xiu said.
"Then you’re freer than I am. At least I know who my parents are. You don’t even know who your parents are. You’re freer than I am. Come on, let’s drink to freedom once more." Li Qingyi poured him another drink.
"No, no, no, I am an orphan, but I know who my parents are. They just died, killed by a demon, so I’ve heard," Li Xiu said. "And I feel quite fortunate. Although I lost my parents, my sister has always treated me well, never letting me suffer."
"I’d like a brother or sister too—someone to take the blame when I’m wrong, someone to accompany me when I’m sad, someone to vent to when I’m angry. Unfortunately, I’m all alone," Li Qingyi lamented.
"That’s simple enough. Just recognize one. I did the same with my sister," Li Xiu laughed.
Li Qingyi was momentarily stunned. "Isn’t she your real sister?"
"She is my real sister, no one closer than my sister. She adopted me, raised me, protected me, and never let me suffer any grievances. There’s no one closer than her, so she’s my real sister," Li Xiu said earnestly.
"You are really lucky. I’d also like a sister like that," Li Qingyi said sincerely.
"That’s easy. Just acknowledge me as your brother, and I’ll cover you," Li Xiu chuckled.
"Yeah, right. More like your sister covers you," Li Qingyi rolled her eyes.
Li Xiu laughed, "Then I’ll recognize you as my sister. After all, I have many sisters; it doesn’t hurt to have one more."
"You liar. Didn’t you say you only have one real sister? Where did all these other sisters come from?" Li Qingyi pouted.
"I’m not lying to you. I only have one real sister, but my sister says she has several sisters and a brother. Her sisters and brother are naturally my sisters and brothers too," Li Xiu explained.
"That’s an odd way of putting it. Haven’t you ever met your real sister’s siblings?" Li Qingyi asked curiously.
"I’ve really never met them. My sister says they live quite far away, not easy to meet. She said she’d take me home to meet them when there’s a chance," Li Xiu said after taking a sip of wine. "If you’re short on sisters, I can share some with you."
"No, I’d rather not. They might not even accept you, let alone bringing someone else along," Li Qingyi dismissed.
"After all, I’m now successful and well-known, and you’re the young lady of Longevity City. How could they not accept us? They’d be eager for us to truly be their siblings. Why not come with me and let them be proud of my sister?" Li Xiu proposed, drinking wine.
"Alright, leave it to me to make your sister proud, but you’ll have to recognize me as your sister first," Li Qingyi laughed.
"That’s not for us to decide; it depends on who is older. How old are you?"
"A woman’s age is a secret. Don’t you even understand that?"
...
The two of them chatted and drank on the side. A little puppy, seeing this, drooled and got up, looking around. Seeing a wine bottle nearby, it crawled over, hugged it, and started gnawing on it.
The wine bottle toppled over, hitting the little puppy, which yelped in pain.
Li Xiu saw this and directly picked up the little puppy, placing it beside him, and placed a large steak in front of it, letting it gnaw on that instead.
