94: A Girls' Night
Yuyin brought Yingluo into her and Little Yuan's room.
"Who are you..." Little Yuan, wearing a cute, lace-trimmed pajama set, stood up from her bed. She looked at Yuyin, who had brought a woman back in the middle of the night, with a dazed expression.
"Ah, Little Yuan, this is my good friend, Yingluo, from high school," Yuyin said with a smile.
She explained Yingluo's situation to Little Yuan.
"I'm so sorry... I was thinking of taking a taxi back, but it's too late, and outside the campus is just the wilderness. I was a bit worried..." Yingluo said apologetically.
Little Yuan looked at Yuyin, then at Yingluo, and then narrowed her eyes with a cheerful smile. "It's nothing, really. I often hear Sister Yuyin mention you. Lately... the public security outside hasn't been very good. There have been several serious cases in Lingdu, especially... in this southwestern suburb."
"Then, Yingluo will be staying in our room for the night, is that okay, Little Yuan?" Yuyin looked at Little Yuan.
"Mm... of course, I'll do whatever Sister Yuyin says." Little Yuan still had that cheerful smile, but compared to her usual smile for Yuyin, it seemed a little more mature.
Because of Yingluo's arrival, the three of them weren't very sleepy.
After Yingluo finished her shower and changed into her blue-purple pajamas, she sat on Yuyin's bed with Little Yuan in her yellow pajamas and Yuyin in her white lace pajamas, chatting. They would occasionally glance out the window at the dark, vast lake and the distant mountains where Night Spirits appeared.
"I was doing an experiment by myself and probably got too absorbed, not noticing how late it had gotten. By the time I realized, the entire research building was empty... When I got back to my dorm, it was pitch black. Our dorm uses fingerprint recognition, so there isn't even a dorm manager... I don't even know how I walked along the lake path by myself." Yingluo still had lingering fears as she spoke. Along that road, she had kept thinking that she would see Yuyin soon, which gave her courage.
Yuyin could understand how she felt. After all, unlike Yuyin, she was a girl without much combat ability. With that little bit of Primordial Energy and no corresponding cultivation methods, it was hard to say how useful it would be in a real fight.
"Yingluo, from now on, besides our Dual Cultivation, you should practice more cultivation methods. Your dormitory is really too remote. Even though it's within the Academy grounds, it's better to be careful," Yuyin said.
"Mm." In any case, Yingluo felt that once she was by Yuyin's side, here, she was safe. She couldn't help but lean her body against Yuyin.
"Little Yuan, you said the public security in the southwestern suburb hasn't been good lately?" Yuyin asked.
"Yes, the news only reports a part of it. For example, that serious 'traffic accident' at the intersection of the western suburb and the Liangjiang Province. They say dozens of people died, but no specific photos of the accident scene were released. Whether it was really a traffic accident... is hard to say." Little Yuan shook her head.
"There have also been some other serious injury and fatality incidents that were quickly censored after being reported, and most of them were also in the suburbs," Yingluo added. "It's not easy to see them through the usual major news channels. When you do, they're just called traffic accidents, factory explosions, and so on... But there are no factories in those places at all. I paid special attention to the locations of the incidents. On the map, there's a large, unnamed blank area in the western suburbs, and the accidents all seem to happen around this area."
"I don't think I've heard much about these things," Yuyin said, puzzled.
"Yuyin, you've been so focused on your cultivation that you rarely pay attention to what's happening outside, right? The mainstream news channels don't report on it much, so of course you wouldn't have noticed," Yingluo said.
"What should we do? Quite a few of the accident locations aren't far from our Academy..." Little Yuan said, looking fearfully out the window. The originally beautiful and mysterious Yuehu Lake now seemed as if something was lurking in it. She hugged Yuyin's arm.
"There's no need to worry. With so many experts inside the Academy, this should be one of the safest places," Yuyin comforted them. However, their words left a question in her mind.
If all that information that was quickly censored and deleted was true, then as accidental incidents, they were happening a bit too frequently, and the locations were too concentrated.
"Even if something really does happen, I will protect you." Yuyin wrapped her arms around them, adding with a determined look in her eyes.
Right now, Yuyin wasn't sure what was happening in the far southwestern suburb of Lingdu, but she had a nagging feeling in her heart. How much time did she have left to prepare?
"Yingluo, why don't you just stay here with us for now?" Yuyin looked out the window. A corner of the research building was visible among the dense, towering trees on the other side of the lake. It looked unsettling. With so many people around during the day, it would be fine, but at night...
"Eh? This..." Yingluo had just been scared and had come to Yuyin out of desperation, not thinking too much about it. After all, this was a dorm for the Academy's top students. "Yuyin, is that okay?"
"Given the current situation, I'm not comfortable with you living alone on the other side of the lake. I'll figure out the dorm management issue. Senior Sister Liu Xing, who is in charge of managing the second floor, is also from our department. I'll go ask her for a favor."
Yuyin looked at Little Yuan. "But, Little Yuan, is that okay with you?"
"I already said, I'll leave it all up to you, Sister." Although Little Yuan felt a bit complicated about Yuyin letting another woman stay with them, with the frequent accidents in the suburbs lately, it would be bad if something really happened. Yingluo, after all, was different from them; she wasn't a Source Martial Practitioner and had much less ability to protect herself.
Yuyin smiled calmly. It was best that Little Yuan could understand her thoughts.
That night, the three girls pushed the two beds together and slept.
The next morning, Yuyin went to find Senior Sister Liu Xing. She also stayed at the school on weekends; otherwise, she wouldn't have been assigned as the person in charge of dorm management.
In Liu Xing's dorm, which was also by the lake.
"Mm... This is definitely not in compliance. If everyone did this, it would be unfair to the other students. But then again, who are you? You're Xia Yuyin, the great missy." Liu Xing sat on a chair by the window, propping up her chin as she thought. "Since you're so set on doing this, then let her stay for now. Just don't cause any trouble. If no teacher specifically objects, we'll just leave it as is."
"Thank you, Senior Sister Liu Xing." Yuyin gave a slight bow, her long hair floating gently.
"But let me say this first. If any problems arise, you will be held fully responsible," Liu Xing warned.
"Mm!" Yuyin agreed readily.

In the afternoon, in the beautiful villa on the hillside behind the lakeside villas.
In the dim, large room, Liu Xing was reporting to Lan Lianyue, who was sitting by an arched window.
"Senior Sister Lian, that Xia Yuyin made this strange request, but I don't think it's a big deal, so I took it upon myself to approve it. I'm truly sorry for not asking for your instruction in advance," Liu Xing said, bowing.
"You did the right thing. Although Xia Yuyin took the Direct Disciple position from one of our Student Council members, if we Student Council were to intervene in such a childish matter, it would seem too petty." Lan Lianyue took a sip of her tea. "Let this Xia Yuyin do as she pleases. It's more fun when she's a bit willful. By the way, help me arrange a meeting with this Xia Yuyin. I'd like to find some time to meet her."
"Senior Sister Lian, you want to meet her?" Liu Xing was a little surprised.
"I didn't expect that she could even defeat that what's-his-name, the big oaf. I underestimated her before. For a talent like this, it's better to have her work for us than to restrict her, don't you think? Hehehe..." Lan Lianyue looked at the pale blue Yuehu Lake and laughed in a delicate voice. It seemed she had discovered a new, interesting toy.
