When Earth Awakened, I Became a Sword Saintess

Chapter 190 : The Obsession of Rain

Chapter 190 : The Obsession of Rain

190: The Obsession of Rain

Yuyin, the Ghost Princess, and the Green Ghosts raced at full speed, arriving in the depths of a mountain range perpetually shrouded in dark clouds.

Here, it was either raining or overcast; there was never a clear day. The air was gloomy and heavy, yet Primordial Energy was incredibly abundant. Still, not a single powerful alien beast occupied this land.

Yuyin, the Ghost Princess, and the Green Ghosts walked through the gloomy mountains. Even the Ghost Princess and the Green Ghosts felt themselves shivering.

"Although the Primordial Energy here is extremely dense, it seems to contain an utterly chilling Yin coldness. Cultivating with it for a long time could harm oneself. All of you, be careful not to absorb too much of the energy here," the Ghost Princess warned, unconsciously folding her arms across her chest.

For a Ghost Clan girl at the Late-Stage of Void Truth Realm to feel cold was telling. In reality, the temperature here was still above that of Lingdu; it wasn’t physically cold, just extremely Yin.

"You…" the Ghost Princess just noticed, looking at Yuyin with surprise. "How are you unaffected? Aren’t you cold?"

"Huh?" Yuyin had been walking through this extremely Yin land this whole time and felt nothing, only a pleasant coolness. "I’m fine."

"…" The Ghost Princess looked suspiciously at Yuyin’s graceful back. She’d heard that women with overflowing femininity were full of fiery heat, but even the male Ghosts, brimming with Yang energy and fiery vigor, felt the cold. Why was this woman completely unaffected?

The deeper they went, the more the chilling cold seemed to penetrate to the very marrow of their bones. It was a good thing it wasn’t raining, or their vitality would truly be damaged.

Yuyin and the Ghost Princess led the way, with the Green Ghosts following, until they reached the end of the deep mountain pass. They were surrounded on three sides by towering, dark mountain walls. Below, a vast white mist churned. Through the mist, they could see the faint entrance to an ancient tomb in the middle of the lower part of the cliff face.

"The tomb of Rain Concubine. We have arrived," the Ghost Princess said, her breathing deep.

The two women and the Ghosts approached the tomb entrance. It was built from giant white stones, exuding an aura of majesty, revealing a touch of elegance within its nobility.

The Ghost Princess immediately performed a secret technique to investigate. Mystic, glowing runes floated in her hands. After a moment, she said, "As expected, the seal guarding this tomb has vanished. We can enter. However, even without the seal, this tomb is surely filled with danger. We must be extremely cautious. Although Rain Concubine is the she-demon goddess we worship, her temperament was notoriously difficult to approach, capricious and fickle. She must have set up all manner of deathtraps within her tomb."

"Your Highness the Ghost Princess, allow me to take the lead and scout the path for you," the tallest Green Ghost, a Late-Stage of Void Truth Realm warrior with a red mane who stood over four meters tall, stepped forward.

"Halt!" the Ghost Princess commanded.

"Everyone, first join me in paying respects to Rain Concubine."

The Ghost Princess moved to the front, with Yuyin standing beside her and the Green Ghosts behind. They all knelt before the tomb entrance and paid homage to Rain Concubine.

"Goddess Rain Concubine, my clan, in order to protect our people and prevent the Prison Abyss from being trampled and plundered by the Li Su alien tribes, has come to request your inheritance. My clan has worshipped Rain Concubine for generations; we are your descendants. Please aid us, the children of this Prison Abyss. If we have offended you, we pray for your forgiveness, Goddess Rain Concubine."

As she spoke, the Ghost Princess kowtowed with sincere devotion. Though she was usually willful and headstrong, she was now utterly meticulous.

"Senior Rain Concubine… Yuyin has never even heard of your legends, but I have always respected beautiful, proud, and independent powerhouses. The more I discover the truth of this world, the more uneasy I feel and the more I realize my own powerlessness. Yuyin wants to protect herself, to protect my sisters. I need strength. Please, Senior, grant it to me." Yuyin also kowtowed deeply, her heart sincere.

"Your Highness the Ghost Princess, a large number of powerful Primordial Energy signatures are approaching from behind! They are extremely fast!" Pang Shan, the red-maned Green Ghost at the Late-Stage of Void Truth Realm, rose to his feet, his gaze fierce as he looked back, giving a low warning.

"It’s the Li Su. They are after the inheritance as well," the Ghost Princess said, rising to her feet with a frown. "They’re moving so fast. It must be an advance party of Li Su elites. We must enter the tomb at once."

Yuyin also rose and followed the Ghost Princess into the tomb entrance. It was even gloomier and colder inside. A Yin chill that could make one’s soul tremble made even the fierce ghosts uncomfortable. These Green Ghosts, born in volcanic, hellish heat, feared the Yin cold of this she-demon goddess.

"Profound Yin… this is an incredibly powerful Profound Yin energy. Rain Concubine is truly no ordinary being. Even after countless years of death, the Yin energy in her tomb is still this potent. It seems to contain a powerful obsession," Yuyin sensed secretly. However, although this Profound Yin power was formidable, it seemed to cause Yuyin no harm at all.

"Your Highness the Ghost Princess, the Li Su are coming! The three of us will hold the entrance. You must go and retrieve the inheritance!" Three brawny Green Ghosts, led by one at the Mid-Stage of Void Truth Realm, bared their fangs, their faces ferocious.

The Ghost Princess’s gaze faltered for a moment. She nodded. "You are the finest warriors of my Ghost Clan!"

With that, she turned and rushed into the tomb.

Yuyin couldn’t help but glance back at the three Green Ghosts. These guys were crude, fierce, and lecherous; they hadn’t stopped staring at her on the journey. But when it was time to risk their lives, they didn’t hesitate. Even three Void Truth Realm Green Ghosts would surely die facing the Li Su army. These ghosts, for all their brutishness, must have known that. In that moment, Yuyin’s opinion of the Ghost Clan seemed to shift.

The Ghost Clan was honorable to the bone.

Yuyin flicked her long hair back and charged into the tomb.

There was no light inside the tomb. The Ghost Princess lit a lantern, and a few of the Green Ghosts lit torches. Yuyin walked among them. This was a long tomb passage built from stone.

Following the passage for several hundred meters, Yuyin and the Ghosts entered a large burial chamber. This chamber was semi-circular, and the middle was empty. Ahead, there were three branching tomb entrances.

"These three entrances are identical," the Ghost Princess said. "There’s no way to tell which path we should take."

Just then, the sounds of battle could be heard from the tomb entrance behind them.

"Your Highness the Ghost Princess, there’s no time! Ba Shi and the others won’t last long," the red-maned Green Ghost, Pang Shan, reminded her.

"We’ll take the middle path together," the Ghost Princess decided immediately, charging in first.

Yuyin and the Ghosts followed closely behind. With three paths, even with pursuers, they had to split up.

As they rushed into the middle passage, the cold ahead intensified. The Ghost Princess and the Green Ghosts were forced to circulate their Primordial Energy to protect their bodies.

A bone-chillingly cold wind blew. It was so strong that it slowed everyone down. All the torches were extinguished, except for the Ghost Princess’s lantern.

"Hee hee hee hee…" a proud, arrogant woman’s laugh, seemingly from a long time ago, echoed. "Little ones who have entered my tomb, you wish to steal my treasures? Dream on! You are nothing but spirit food for my tomb!"

The voice carried a terrible threat, yet why did it also hold a hint of sorrow? Yuyin felt a pang in her heart for the laughter.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.

Ahead in the tomb passage, braziers flickered to life, one after another, their flames a pale, chilling white with a touch of bewitching purple.

From a burial chamber in front came a series of rumbling sounds, as if something had awakened.

"There’s no Primordial Energy, but they’re emitting a powerful Source Spirit chill. They must be the tomb’s guardians. Follow me!"

There was no turning back now. The Ghost Princess led the charge into the burial chamber ahead.

Crack!

Suddenly, part of the floor gave way, and a male Ghost fell into a deep pit. But he was a strong cultivator at the Early-Stage of Void Truth Realm. He used his weapon to smash through the rock wall, stopping his fall, and was pulled up by the other Green Ghosts. The Ghosts’ bodies were incredibly strong, but they were also heavy and not adept at moving through the air.

Swish, swish, swish!

Arrows burning with purple flames shot out from the mechanisms. The Ghosts immediately raised their weapons and heavy shields to block. Two Green Ghosts used large shields to protect the princess in front.

But some Ghosts were still injured by the arrows. However, these arrows were meant to repel ordinary intruders; against Void Truth Realm ghosts, they could at most cause light injuries.

In the middle of the chamber, some stone slabs on the floor were pried open. There was also movement on the rock walls. Some dark, mechanical statues that had lain dormant for thousands of years descended from the walls or climbed up from the ground. They held jet-black weapons, their forms looking ancient. Each statue had several spots on its body where purple fire burned.

The mechanical statues, holding various weapons, began to close in on the Ghosts.

It was to be expected that the tomb of a demon goddess would have guardians.

"Attack!"

The Ghost Princess flipped her hand, drawing her dagger. Her immense Late-Stage of Void Truth Realm Primordial Energy erupted as she led the Ghosts into battle against the mechanical statues.

The statues’ attack power wasn’t particularly strong, but they weren’t living beings. Their entire bodies were made of hard ore or metal, as sturdy as weapons. It was very difficult to destroy one.

Some statues stood in the back, holding crossbows or inscribed magical artifacts, firing arrows or casting blinding spells at the Ghosts. The destructive power of these spells was quite strong.

At this moment, Yuyin also moved. She drew her Yue Maiden Longsword and charged forward in a few steps, striking a one-and-a-half-meter-tall but very stout and solid mechanical statue with her sword.

Bang!

Sparks flew. Yuyin’s sword strength was immense, leaving a deep gash in the hard statue. While this couldn’t completely destroy the statue, her sword contained the Sense of Rain, and a terrible trembling force was transmitted to its interior, damaging many of its joints. The statue’s mobility was greatly reduced, and the purple spirit flames on its body were also significantly depleted; two of them went out.

Yuyin struck several more times in succession, using the Sense of Rain in her slashes to extinguish all of the statue’s spirit flames. The mechanical statue went still.

Just then, Yuyin sensed a shadow behind her.

A towering mechanical statue, several meters tall, was raising a massive black sword right behind her.

"Not good!" These statues had no aura, making them hard to detect in the dark. Yuyin immediately turned and raised her sword to block.

However, the giant sword raised by the towering statue did not fall. Instead, as if Yuyin weren’t there, it bypassed her and moved to attack a Green Ghost in the distance.

"What’s going on?" Yuyin was confused. Had it not noticed her?

Dozens of paces away, under the light of purple-flame torches, two mechanical statues nocked their hard bows, aiming directly at Yuyin. Just as Yuyin was about to dodge, she saw the two statues ignore her completely, turning their bows to fire at several Green Ghosts to her side. One of the Ghosts was hit in the shoulder.

At this moment, Yuyin realized that she was standing in the middle of the burial chamber. The mechanical statues, holding all manner of weapons, all seemed to be ignoring her. Even when they passed by her, they showed no reaction, instead turning to attack the other Ghosts.

"These tomb guardians… they won’t attack me?" The incomprehensible thought suddenly surfaced in Yuyin’s mind.
