When Earth Awakened, I Became a Sword Saintess

Chapter 1 : Flower of the Other Shore

Chapter 1 : Flower of the Other Shore

Volume 1: Fairy of the Magic City

1: Flower of the Other Shore

In the night of the metropolis, lights bloomed like a sea of flowers, roads flowed like rivers of light, and the streams of cars weaving back and forth were like elves in the twilight.

Yet in the night sky, a crimson sedan chair, carried by eight mighty vicious ghosts, seemed to have come from the world of the Other Shore, strolling among the skyscrapers.

Strangely, in this bustling market street, no one noticed the sedan chair, nor did they hear the urgent yet ethereal panting of a woman from within.

Xia Yuyin, at this moment, was sitting in the sedan chair. Dressed in white with a few strokes of vibrant red, she was like a peerless fairy who had descended from the heavens into the Magic City, yet she did not possess the air of one detached from the mortal world.

At this moment, her face was flushed. The towering chest that had nothing to do with innocence occasionally obscured her vision. Beneath the semi-transparent long skirt, her legs far fuller, rounder, and longer than her past self's constantly reminded her of an unbelievable fact.

Xia Yuyin had been reborn.

In the more than half an hour since she regained consciousness, she had tried every possible way to rule out other possibilities. Yes, she had been reborn. Moreover, she had been reborn as a woman. A tall woman, whose body exuded a faint, mature scent of angelica.

She remembered everything about herself before her rebirth; she was just an ordinary, frail, and delicate-looking young boy. The only thing she couldn't be sure of was whether she had the same name before her rebirth.

But this was clearly not important.

At this moment, she felt none of the excitement that reborn characters in novels should have buying stocks in advance, betting everything on the World Cup… How could she have the mind to care about such things?

A woman like a Fairy of the Other Shore, being carried by ferocious and brutal vicious ghosts, and seated in a sedan chair, could that be a good thing?

"What should I do? I was just reborn, I can't just wait here to die, can I?"

First, she must not attract their excessive attention. Then, jump out of the sedan chair if she could; if not, try to call the police or call for help.

She didn't dare to pull open the front curtain of the sedan chair again. Without seeing them up close, one could not imagine how ferocious those vicious ghosts were.

She took a deep breath. The unfamiliar, heavy weight on her chest seemed to make her heartbeat even heavier. Trembling, she carefully lifted a corner of the curtain.

Outside the window was clearly the metropolis she was familiar with. On the flashy and modern commercial square's giant screen by the street, the trailer for "Avengers: Infinity War" once again reminded her that it was early May 2018, a year ago.

However, what puzzled Yuyin was that the advertisement for "Infinity War" did not hold the most prominent position. There was also an advertisement for a domestic, large-budget Xianxia film set to be released around the same time that seemed even more eye-catching, yet Yuyin had no memory of such a film from last year.

"Hmm?"

Yuyin's eyelashes, damp with evening dew, trembled slightly. Her starry-night-like bright eyes revealed a look of astonishment. In a corner above the giant screen, several white apes, as tall as men, were squatting, as if they had jumped out of a Xianxia movie, looking toward the sedan chair.

Yuyin blinked and focused. No, these were not inside the screen or promotional models, but real white apes. Why were there wild beasts in this city? No, they didn't seem like ordinary beasts; they seemed to exude a certain agile and ancient aura.

"Vrooom~~~!"

A roar from an engine interrupted Yuyin's gaze. She risked a glance downwards. A red Ferrari, belonging to some rich young master, was speeding down the street full of vehicles. Yet the crowds on both sides of the street mostly just glanced up before continuing on their way in a hurry or looking down at their phones.

With thousands, tens of thousands of people on this street, could not a single one see the eight-carried sedan chair held aloft by vicious ghosts from hell above their heads!? And yet, those white apes seemed to be able to see her? Yuyin suddenly realized her chances of successfully calling for help might be very low.

Whoosh, whoosh...

Just as Yuyin was lost in confusion, an illusion of orange-yellow light, like wings, drifted past the window with the sound of a gentle breeze.

Drawn by the light, Yuyin pulled back the curtain completely and looked out.

She saw that, above the street, a large, red-gold fish, shaped like a boat, was swimming by, wagging its head and tail. This large fish had a human-like face and a snake-like tail, appearing both illusory and real, and its body faintly revealed the spires of tall buildings.

"What on earth is this? Is this truly the eastern metropolis, Lingdu, where I once lived? Is this truly the world I lived in before my rebirth?"

Yuyin couldn't help but look around urgently.

On the back of a gloomy, old-style high-rise, a giant cat, as long as half the building itself, was hiding. This cat had extraordinarily long ears, its eyes glinting fiercely, one paw resting on the "New World" neon sign, while multiple tails like peacock feathers swayed behind it. The so-called "New World" was just a ballroom for the wealthy from the city's first heyday in the 1930s, but at this moment, the sign was particularly fitting. This was a New World, one that seemed similar to the world she had lived in, but was in fact vastly different!

She saw that the large fish from moments ago leisurely swam around a crossroads, and then a flock of large white birds flew out from the depths of a skyscraper. Each of these large birds had only one wing, and they seemed to fly in pairs, male and female, leaning on each other, emitting a high-pitched cry of "Yao Ru, Yao Ru," as if singing the praises of their own name.

Above the bright yellow streetlights, a snake with bat-like wings was circling. Upon seeing the sedan chair, it darted vigilantly into the shadows between the buildings.

In the distance, the river of traffic was congested, a sea of brilliant lights.

As far as the eye could see, in this concrete and steel forest that never sleeps, countless strange spirit beasts, which Yuyin had never seen before, were wandering, lingering, and watching over the streets where men and women hurried about...

Thousands of demon spirits roamed the Magic City at night, as if no one else was around. And the people of this city, some were in love, some were lonely, some were rushing to catch the subway after work, some were beginning their decadent nightlife, yet they acted as if they were completely unaware of the existence of the demon spirits... Was this the Magic City?

Yuyin hesitated.

Before she knew it, the eight vicious ghosts had carried Yuyin to a relatively secluded green area, where the sedan chair stopped.

Still reeling from shock and in a trance, Yuyin felt a sudden chill wash over her body. What were they going to do? Eat her? Or, do something else? In any case, a newly reborn Yuyin had no way to resist!

A gigantic ghost claw, so large it felt enervating just to look at, pulled open the front curtain. In that moment, Yuyin felt as if she would suffocate.

"Calm down... stay calm... If these fellows wanted to kill me, they could have done so long ago. Why bother with the trouble of carrying me in a sedan chair? The best thing to do now is to act as if everything is normal..." Acting as if nothing was wrong seemed simple, but how could it be easy? But a strong will to live began to seep from every part of Yuyin's body, stirring her self-control.

A pair of vicious ghost eyes, enough to make Yuyin's heart leap out of her throat, glared at her, as if doomsday had arrived. However, the ghost then moved aside, as if to let Yuyin out.

Yuyin didn't know how she summoned the courage to stand, but the tiptoes of her high heels nearly caused her to trip.

High heels? Wearing these things at a time like this was killing her!

Suddenly, Yuyin felt a foreign object slide between her warm inner thighs, scaring her so much she almost lost control.

Plop, something fell to the ground.

A phone? Yuyin looked at the vicious ghost. The one that had pulled the curtain for her showed no reaction.

Yuyin tried her best to appear natural, suppressing the tremors of her tall, delicate frame. She didn't know where the inspiration came from, but she swept a head of jet-black hair to one side, bent down, picked up the phone, and secretly held it behind her back. She was scared, but fear would lead to disaster.

Could it get any worse?

In this moment, Yuyin controlled her body. The memory inherent to it allowed her to walk smoothly even in high heels. She bent over slightly and stepped out of the sedan chair.

The legs of the vicious ghosts were like thick black pillars. The thick, unbearable smell made her feel as if she would suffocate. She felt as if she were walking the longest few steps of her life.

"I heard that you shouldn't look back when you encounter ghosts. Since they let me out of the sedan chair, I'll just pretend I don't know anything and walk straight ahead, toward a crowded place..."

Yuyin's heart hammered heavily against her chest. Her legs, as if guided by some supernatural force, maintained a balance that could collapse at any moment as she walked. "Don't look back, don't you dare look back..."

"Xia Yuyin!"

A coarse, booming voice made Yuyin feel as if she had fallen into an ice cave.

She turned around in a panic. She saw that among the eight vicious ghosts, the one with the deepest black mane and the largest stature spoke to her: "Three years from now, we will come for you again."

"What?" Yuyin's chest heaved deeply. Gazing at these mighty and terrifying vicious ghosts, she felt that she had no room to argue at this moment. But why? Why did these vicious ghosts carry her here in a sedan chair, only to look for her again in three years?

The eight vicious ghosts lifted the sedan chair again, as if they really intended to leave just like that.

"Why..." Yuyin's jet-black long hair fluttered in the deep, night wind. She didn't know where she got the courage, but she blurted it out. Perhaps it was a surge of resentment and anger that had built up in her heart under the constant terror.

Those vicious ghosts stopped. The one leading them turned its head. Beneath its imposing figure, a pair of bloody eyes that made one's soul tremble gazed at Yuyin.

"You are, after all, the Ghost King's bride."
