Chapter 31: Devouring Luck 2.0
Chapter 31: Devouring Luck 2.0
Two days after Liu Ye's family visited the set, Uncle Long's family also came.
The people who came were Jackie Chan's wife, Lin Fengjiao, and Chen Zuming, whom Guan Shengbai had met once before.
When the mother and son arrived at the film set, Jackie Chan was filming an action scene, shirtless with his jacket off, sparring with the stuntmen.
Lin Fengjiao stood next to the director, a hint of amusement on her face.
Chen Zuming stood behind his mother with his hands in his pockets, his posture much more restrained than before.
Guan Shengbai saw Chen Zuming from afar, but his heart was not greatly disturbed.
His "friendship" with this fellow Daoist Ming was limited to a brief encounter on the set of the film "Tiny Times".
Guan Shengbai wanted to pretend he didn't see it and continue doing his own thing, but Chen Zuming spotted him immediately when his gaze swept across the set.
Chen Zuming's expression changed visibly.
His gaze lingered on Guan Shengbai for a second before shifting away, then he couldn't help but glance back at him again.
Dao Youming stood there for a while, whispered something to Lin Fengjiao, and then walked towards Guan Shengbai.
"Teacher Guan Shengbai, it's been a long time."
Chen Zuming walked up to him, smiled, and extended his hand.
Guan Shengbai saw him extend his hand, so he reached out and shook it back, nodding: "The team has been busy, so I haven't had a chance to greet you."
"Of course, filming is the priority."
Chen Zuming smiled politely, his tone of voice completely different from his arrogant demeanor during their last meeting.
"Um... thank you for taking care of me on set last time."
His words were rambling and incoherent, but Guan Shengbai understood them.
The "last time" he was referring to was probably the matter with Ke Teng.
That sounded somewhat like a provocation...
After all, others may not know the inside story, but the fellow Daoist in front of me certainly does.
I gave his underlings three solid punches.
But this fellow Daoist Ming's current attitude, at least on the surface, is very polite.
You could even say they were being overly polite.
The two chatted casually for a few more minutes.
They were all just polite questions like "How have you been lately?" or "Are you tired from filming?"
Throughout the conversation, Chen Zuming maintained a polite smile and chatted for about a minute or two before making an excuse to turn around and leave.
Guan Shengbai watched his retreating figure and secretly thought to himself that this fellow Daoist's acting skills were quite good.
If he remembers correctly, this person is quite flamboyant in private.
Now, in front of her father, she acts all obedient and sensible, speaking softly and gently.
Moreover, Guan Shengbai had a vague idea that this fellow Daoist was planning to strike up a conversation.
He probably came to test my attitude, to see if I knew about his dirty secret...
Guan Shengbai was actually too lazy to provoke him.
Even if he does nothing, it will only be two years before this guy retires from the entertainment industry after the incident.
When Chen Zuming returned to Jackie Chan's side, Lin Fengjiao was talking to Jackie Chan.
Seeing her son return, Lin Fengjiao's gaze swept over his face, then she said to Jackie Chan without saying a word:
"That young man, is he the very promising young man you mentioned?"
Jackie Chan followed her gaze to Guan Shengbai, smiled and nodded: "Yes, Shengbai is handsome, hardworking, and quite talented in acting."
Lin Fengjiao said "oh" and glanced at Guan Shengbai again, but didn't say anything more.
But she had a vague "illusion" in her heart.
She felt that something seemed off when her son went over and greeted the young man.
The young man was about the same age as his son, but his son seemed to be half a head shorter than him, and his son spoke and acted with a cautious and timid manner.
Lin Fengjiao was a little curious, but she didn't think about it too much.
After all, it's not appropriate for an elder like her to pry into things that happen between young people, so she just pretended not to have seen it.
Jackie Chan didn't notice these details. He simply patted Jaycee Chan on the shoulder and asked with a smile, "You know Ah Sheng?"
"I visited the set in Shanghai before, and we met once, so we can say we know each other."
Jackie Chan smiled with satisfaction.
"It's best to associate with people like Ah Sheng, rather than making friends with all sorts of shady characters outside."
Upon hearing this, Chen Zuming's smile froze for a moment, then he quickly nodded, "Okay, Dad, I understand."
Jackie Chan was satisfied with his reaction, patted him on the shoulder again, and then turned around to continue discussing the blocking for the next scene with the director.
……
……
In the following days, the crew received even more visitors.
First was Guo Caijie.
When Guo Caijie arrived, Guan Shengbai had just finished filming a scene and was sitting in a chair drinking water.
She was wearing a smart black suit, her hair was up, and she looked like she was discussing business.
Clearly, at this point, she had been completely "possessed" by Gu Li.
"Hey, Teacher Guan, filming a movie?"
Guo Caijie walked up to him, her eyes crinkling with a smile.
"Jie-ge, what brings you here?"
Guan Shengbai put down his water glass, somewhat surprised.
"I came to Beijing to discuss an endorsement deal, and I happened to hear that you were filming here, so I came to check it out."
Guo Caijie spoke casually, but Guan Shengbai noticed that her assistant was carrying a lot of milk tea and snacks, which were obviously carefully prepared.
The two chatted for about half an hour, mostly about their recent situations and work.
Guo Caijie said she is currently considering shifting her career focus to mainland China, saying there are more opportunities and a larger market there.
Guan Shengbai nodded in support.
Later, Guo Caijie's assistant came over to remind her that it was almost time, and she got up to say goodbye.
Before leaving, Guo Caijie's gaze lingered for a while on Jin Tian and Gulnazar, who were looking this way from a distance.
Finally, with a half-smile, he extended his index finger and lightly tapped Guan Shengbai.
"I'm leaving now. Treat me to a meal next time you're free."
Guan Shengbai watched her back and thought to himself that this woman was also a woman of her own mind, who acted immediately without any hesitation.
Moreover, it seems she has already made up her mind to develop her career in mainland China.
Just two days after Guo Caijie left, an even more enthusiastic group of people came to visit the set.
Yang Mi led the team this time, with Xie Yilin following closely behind.
Now, the entire mahjong quartet has come to "collect stamps" from Guan Shengbai.
Many people in the crew began to wonder about the "background" of Guan Shengbai, the newcomer.
Because Yang Mi's arrival was accompanied by a huge entourage.
Not only was there a black nanny van accompanying them, but a minivan followed behind, loaded with all kinds of food.
As soon as the car door opened, the aroma filled the entire film set.
"Honey Sister came to visit the set!!"
"Hi Honey!"
"Wow, this is a lavish lunch!"
The staff members put down what they were doing and peered out.
Yang Mi's assistants unloaded insulated boxes from the van, each containing a box of expensive-looking meals.
Yang Mi herself had a smile on her face and waved to Guan Shengbai from afar.
"Xiao Bai, you must be tired from filming. I've come to see you."
The sheer scale of the event was as if they were declaring, "This man in front of me is mine."
She walked up to Guan Shengbai, patted him on the shoulder, then turned around and shouted to the entire film set.
"Everyone's worked hard, it's my treat today, eat whatever you like!"
"Thank you, Honey!"
"Sister Honey is so generous!"
The entire set suddenly became lively. The staff members all crowded around to get food, their faces beaming with smiles.
Even Jackie Chan, who had just come out of the dressing room, was amused by the scene.
He walked up to Guan Shengbai, patted him on the shoulder, and said with a smile, "Shengzai, not bad. I'm basking in your glory."
Guan Shengbai quickly waved his hand: "Uncle Long, please don't make fun of me."
Jackie Chan laughed a few times, didn't say much, turned around and grabbed a steak, which he ate with relish.
Yang Mi then pulled Guan Shengbai to a quiet corner and chatted with him for a few minutes.
"Senior sister, why are you making such a big fuss..."
"What are you afraid of? I'm going to let everyone in the industry know that from now on, my sister Mi is going to give you, Guan Shengbai, her full support!"
Clearly, Guan Shengbai's signing with Zeng Jia's company and renewing their "sibling relationship" is...
Yang Mi was very happy.
Moreover, Yang Mi's move was not without reason. After all, Guan Shengbai was signed by Zeng Jia's company at the time and was a rising star promoted by their "Yang Mi Studio". Naturally, she had to come and support him.
But how much of that statement is true, and how much of it stems from the "warning" that arose after hearing that Guo Biting and Guo Caijie had visited the set one after the other...?
That remains to be seen.
Guan Shengbai was clearly a little helpless...
"How's filming going lately?" Yang Mi asked.
"It's great. This production team is very professional. I've learned a lot."
Guan Shengbai answered truthfully.
"That's good."
Yang Mi nodded, then emphasized the reminder to Guan Shengbai.
"I came here specifically to tell you, don't take on any other projects in your schedule after 'All Quiet in Peking,' because the company might be planning something big soon."
Guan Shengbai's heart skipped a beat.
If he remembered correctly, Huanrui Century's "big production plan" should be about to begin at this time.
Within this plan, there's one particular drama series he's been focusing on...
That is "Gu Jian Qi Tan".
He knew perfectly well how popular that show later became.
It made Feng Ge (a character from a popular Chinese TV series) famous, boosted the popularity of Chen Weiting, and even made the second male lead, Qiao Zhenyu, gain a lot of fans that year.
Even the term "top influencer" was originally used to describe Feng Ge, who became famous throughout the country because of this movie.
Later, after the other members also became famous, the so-called "Four Top Celebrities" pattern was formed.
The production company behind this drama is H&R Century Pictures.
Guan Shengbai lowered his eyes and remained silent, but he had already begun to make plans in his mind.
He knew that what he needed to do next was to grab his share of the pie before it landed.
And "Gu Jian Qi Tan" was his first target.
