Chapter 31 The Dwarven Blacksmith Profiting from the War at the Trading Post 1
This is how the dwarf blacksmith spent his day.
He got up early and waited for the new miners to arrive for work. Then the two of them went to the charcoal kiln to buy the charcoal needed for the next few days of forging.
He and the charcoal seller were old acquaintances.
Therefore, the blacksmith would always pay the other party extra money.
After all, he knew that selling charcoal was not an easy way to make a living.
Sometimes, the blacksmith would personally go to the mining area to buy iron ingots that were in good condition and had undergone rough processing, but he had just gone a few days ago, so he could save himself the trip today.
The main task now is to complete the backlog of orders from our clients. Fortunately, the lord hasn't assigned any urgent forging tasks recently, so the work is relatively easy.
"Hey~ Iron Eyebrows! See if you can fix my battle axe."
In the afternoon, a greeting came from outside the door, and a dwarf walked in while talking.
It was his old friend, Bahrain 1.
Ironbrow is the name of a dwarf blacksmith.
"What, your team didn't take on a mission today?" Tie Mei took the axe and examined it carefully. There was a noticeable nick in the blade, but he considered it a minor issue.
"Didn't answer. Yesterday I was carried around on that guy Terra all day, so I need a break today. Besides, our captain, Ragon1, seems to have other things to take care of."
"That blocky guy... he's definitely a master blacksmith."
Although Iron Eyebrows was somewhat displeased that he had wasted a lot of time being held above his head yesterday, his tone was still full of reverence when he mentioned Terra.
He vividly described to Bahrain 1 the scene of witnessing the forging of Terra that day: "That blocky guy, first like this, then like this, and finally like that. Hey! An iron ingot came out, and a complete set of iron armor followed!"
"That's truly remarkable. Although I've always looked down on those fancy magic spells, if that incredible forging technique is magic, then I, Iron Eyebrow, would be willing to learn it."
"This is the first time I've ever heard that Terra can actually forge things." Balin1 took two glasses of beer from Iron Eyebrow's inner room, handed one to Iron Eyebrow, and then plopped down on a low table next to him.
Bahrain 1 swung his legs, which were dangling in the air, as he drank.
"That table under your butt, that's what that blocky guy left here. I guess he gave it to me? The workmanship is pretty good. I've shown it off to a few carpenters in town, and they all say that the blocky guy's craftsmanship is superb. I just don't know if he used some kind of magic, but I can't move this table at all. I can only leave it here."
"Wow, I didn't expect that Terra to know so much." Balin1 also started talking. "We went on that adventure in the ruins with him before, and it really broadened my horizons. He wiped out those thick magical vines in one go."
"And when he was digging the hole, he didn't need to dump the soil and rocks out at all; they just turned into blocks and were sucked into his stomach. I really don't understand what his body is made of. Moreover, the caves he dug didn't need any wooden supports, yet they didn't collapse at all."
Tie Mei's eyes lit up: "That's amazing! If we sent him to our dwarves' mines, he'd probably be a top expert too."
"That's not all," Balin1 added. "That guy pulled a pair of tattered boots out of the box, and as soon as he put them on, they turned into magical items that made him run incredibly fast. He also said some weird things like how a sweater's defense was higher than iron armor."
"How could a sweater be inferior to armor?"
"That's right."
"But then again, this Terra guy is unbelievably amazing. Maybe we're witnessing a living legend. He's a good guy too, it's just that... well... his brain doesn't always work so well sometimes," Iron Eyebrows concluded.
"It's true that you're not very bright."
The two gradually stopped talking, and only the clanging of Tie Mei's blacksmithing could be heard in the room.
There were also miners listening nearby, their jaws practically dropping to the ground in astonishment.
beep~
There was a knock on the door of the blacksmith's shop.
Tie Mei sighed and recited the tongue twister with practiced ease: "We are a weapons shop, we don't make farm tools. We only accept single-edged weapons, iron bows and crossbows, but we don't make magic staffs, unless you want a hammerhead welded onto your staff."
"If you want to commission a forging service, bring all the permission documents from the Lord's Mansion, the Forging Guild, and the Adventurers' Guild, and write down your specific requirements before you come."
"Prices depend on the craftsmanship. If you think it's too expensive, turn right and leave. If you're selling scrap metal, ask that guy over there to weigh it."
Bahrain 1 turned to look at the doorway. The newcomer was a man dressed as a hunter, but holding a staff.
"My name is Owen, a Jade-level mage from the Magic Academy. You must be Iron Eyebrow? Do you take mage jobs?" the man asked in his husky voice.
"Are you deaf?" Tie Mei frowned.
"We have a batch of staves that urgently need maintenance, and they're all made of metal. All you need to do is polish them again and then engrave the magical circuits on them a bit deeper, just like before," Owen explained his purpose.
……
Seeing that the dwarf did not reply immediately, Owen continued, "Money is not a problem. There are twelve of us in total, and we are willing to pay you a total of 5 gold coins. Here is the deposit, 240 silver coins from Michal City."
As he spoke, he slammed a large, heavy bag of coins onto the table.
Bahrain 1 raised an eyebrow and nudged Tie Mei with his elbow: "What, buddy? Not taking this one? The pay is pretty good."
Tie Mei finally put down the forging hammer in his hand, turned around, and carefully examined the mage.
"Ah, looks like you're willing to take it?" Irving smiled. "Shake hands, nice to do business with you."
Tie Mei didn't reach out to grasp it, but instead asked directly, "Where's the staff? When will it arrive? How much time do you need to finish it?"
Irving: "The situation is a bit complicated. We can't send all the staffs over, so I'll have to trouble you to come with me. The location is over on Corruption Street, in a red trading building."
Tie Mei crossed his arms, looking like a round, rolling boulder: "Sure. But since you want me to come to your door, the price will have to be increased by a third."
"Money is negotiable; my employer is quite generous in this regard."
Bahrain 1 chimed in, "I'll go with you and help you carry things. Just give me a little something for my hard work."
Tie Mei chuckled and tacitly agreed to let his good brother share the spoils.
"Let's go then."
*
A human mage led two dwarves through winding streets and alleys until they finally arrived at their destination: a red trading building located deep within the black market.
Bahrain 1 looked at the imposing building in front of him and muttered, "What's the purpose of this trading post? Why is it so conspicuous in the black market area?" He rarely came to the black market area.
The three entered the trading house through the back door.
The interior of the building was surprisingly empty, with only a few servants moving around.
At this moment, a well-dressed lady with an elegant demeanor, led by a male servant, came up a downward staircase.
Bahrain 1 glanced at her, and she noticed him too. The lady paused for a moment, then left as if nothing had happened.
