Chapter 85 -Little Lad

It was way beyond 24 hours and there were still no signs of any call from the kidnappers.

The reports confirmed that the blood on the rod was Kai's and from the amount of blood that they had found, the child had a serious injury. The cops weren't ruling out a murder angle to the situation but only Phill and Mercy knew about it. They didn't have the guts to tell Lea and Jake the about the development. " We will be looking out for unidentified bodies of toddlers, Kai's age. I know it's difficult but we have seen worst in our career! " Phill grabbed the collar of the officer who was briefing him but let go immediately. The officer patted his back understandingly. " I hope and I pray with all my heart that we are wrong and that the kids is safe. Rest assured to are juggling all possibilities here. We will not rest until we get his whereabouts. "

Lea paced the hall looking repeatedly at the phones.She was still waiting for the kidnappers to call. It was already night, the next day and she had received absolutely no news about her baby. Jake was there on the couch, hands clasped together, eyes staring at the floor.

Percy had taken his leave. He said he was going to use some of his contacts to try and work on the leads. Phill and Mercy stayed back. Mercy was in the kitchen making another batch of coffee for everyone because they couldn't get anything else down their throat.

Phill sat beside Jake for sometime before shaking his head and walking out through the front door. He pulled out his phone and dialled a number. The ring went through a couple of times before it was answered.

" Hello! "

" Tell me if you had anything to do with Kai's kidnapping! " Phill blurted without any courtesy.

" Who is Kai? What kidnapping? " The person on the other end sounded very baffled at the sudden accusation.

" There is no need to pretend. I won't believe you had no clue about your grandson! The old vixen that you are... are you going to take it out on the little lad? Wasn't it enough what you did to Lea's parents? " Phill couldn't stop himself from breaking into tears. He had only seen the child in pictures. But the thought of seeing his lifeless body was shredding his soul. He couldn't tell anybody else and it was a burden to suppress his emotions around the grieving parents.

" Phill! I don't know if you are on drugs or if your hatred for me is inflated due to any sudden revelation, but how on earth am I supposed to know you have children unless you decide to tell me about them. " Elizabeth Rodgers voice was stern on the other end. " Now calm down and tell me what happened? You do realise I am on the other side of the world! And my age is quickly catching up. Surprises like these over the phone aren't really appreciated , my boy! "

Phill fumbled to find his words. " He... He isn't mine. He is Jake's child. Jake and Lea's." That's all he managed to say. A frown appeared on Elizabeth's face. " Jake's child? Which Lea? Who is this Lea now? Damn! Lea Sully? Is she the one? Damn! Jake has a child with her? Was it why you brothers helped her instead of me? Was that why you guys sabotaged all the shares... "

" Mother! Are you really going to talk about shares when the kid is missing? He is only three. Badly injured. Besides, those shares weren't even yours to begin with. They belonged to Lea from the very beginning. You stole them.You took away her family.You should be grateful we took that load of sin off your shoulders. "

" My... my! I always thought you were the least emotional of the lot. Now I see, how wrong I was. Whoever knew you could be so passionately in love. So, are you and Lea together? " Elizabeth seemed rather intrigued.

" Damn it, Mother! Weren't you listening? Kai isn't mine. He is Jake and Lea's son. " Phill burst out.

" I got that. But aren't you and Lea together? No? Damn! You brothers are in love with the same woman? Damn!" Elizabeth sat up, her eyes sparkling. " Mother! I did not call you so you could enjoy yourself making fun of me. We are drained. We are worried sick. The child is missing. If you have anything remotely to do with his disappearance... "

" I can assure you that is definitely not the case. How can I be involved in kidnapping someone I didn't even know existed. Lea is a Sully. And from what I know she is talented. She was able to rebuild the entire Sully empire within a very short span of time. With talent and wealth comes power and with power, comes danger. Danger that nobody prepares us for. " Phill, who are you talking to? You have been talking for too long. " Phill turned around, shocked to see Mercy standing behind him with a cup of coffee. " I was waiting for you to come back but your coffee is getting cold. " Phill immediately disconnected the call and took the coffee with a little smile. " Thank you, Mercy. It was a call from the hospital. It's sorted. Nothing to worry about. Let's get back inside. " Mercy nodded as Phill slipped the phone inside his pocket and the two of them walked back inside.
