Chapter 50 Pieces of puzzles

Author's POV

" Brother! "

Phill pulled Percy into the dimly lit cabin, the musty scent of old wood filling the air. He hugged Percy tightly, a mix of emotions swirling within him.

" Whoah! What's up? " Phill rarely called him brother and he was definitely not someone who easily showed his emotions.

"Nothing! I wanted to show you what I found out. About Jake... and us."

"What about it? What did you find out?" Percy asked nonchalantly.

"Jake and I... we might be brothers." Phill answered after taking in a deep breath.

"What?! How is that even possible?" Percy looked stunned.

Phill handed the papers over to Percy." But that's not the entirety of the news. There is more. So much more. You need to sit down and listen carefully." Phill pulled a chair for Percy.

"Greg found out. Jake and you were born in the same hospital, same day. There was some mix-up with the records. It's all here.It sheds some light but a lot remains shrouded in darkness. "

Percy's eyes scanned the papers with growing disbelief, his brow furrowing with each line he read. The revelation struck like lightning on a calm day, electrifying the air with a mixture of emotions—confusion, frustration, disorientation and an overwhelming sense of longing for answers that had eluded him for so long. "We were born in the same hospital, on the same day ?" He repeated Phill's words.

Phill explained quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.Percy's throat tightened as he struggled to comprehend the implications of this newfound truth. Memories of a childhood marked by subtle exclusions and unspoken doubts flooded his mind, each piece of the puzzle falling into place with painful clarity. Finally he let go of the papers as Phill finished briefing him up. A scoff replaced his confusion.

"That explains why they never treated me like I belonged," Percy muttered bitterly, his fists clenching at his sides. "Like they knew I wasn't theirs."Phill reached out, placing a reassuring hand on Percy's shoulder. "You've always been my brother, Percy. Blood or not."

Percy smirked bitterly "Yeah, guess that's something."

"We need to confront Mom and Dad about this. Get to the truth." Phill suggested, his face was damn serious. " We just can't come to conclusions on speculations. They need to tell us everything they know! "

Percy nodded, "Let's do it. They owe us that much.It was about time I got some clarifications."

Then there was absolute silence. Neither of them spoke. That cabin held so many fond memories from their shared childhood.Memories that seemed distant at the moment.Amidst the whispers of the wind and the distant call of a solitary bird, they found solace in each other's presence.

" Shall we head out? ” Phill finally asked after what seemed like ages. Percy nodded and they hurriedly walked out. They climbed into their cars, engines humming to life beneath the blanket of stars that shimmered overhead, guiding them on their journey toward the truth.

Unbeknownst to them, Percy's forgotten phone, abandoned amidst the rush of emotions inside the cabin, had inadvertently dialed Mercy's number.

A manual error, a random touch or perhaps the mysterious work of destiny,it was anybody's guess.

In the quiet of her own home, Mercy's phone buzzed softly, drawing her attention away from the book she had been trying to lose herself in. With a furrowed brow, she answered the call, she wasn't expecting Percy to call at that hour.

Her heart skipped a beat at the familiar voices that drifted through the line, oblivious to her presence.

"Brothers?" Mercy murmured to herself, her mind racing with a whirlwind of emotions. The phone slipped down from her hand and fell and shattered as she heard it all. But she couldn't be bothered.

Shock, confusion, and a gnawing sense of betrayal crawled through her chest. "What's going on? Why haven't they told me?"

She tried to listen intently putting her ear against the cracked screen, piecing together fragments of conversation that painted a picture far more complex than anything she had ever imagined. With every word she heard, the threads of their shared history unraveled before her, revealing truths buried deep within the fabric of their family's past.

"I need to find out what this is about," Mercy resolved quietly, her voice firm with determination. "They can't keep secrets like this from me."she prepared to confront her brothers and demand the answers that had been kept from her. The keys of her car glinted on the table.

She rushed out without calling her driver. She couldn't care less about legal formalities. She hit the accelerator and was headed straight towards the Rodger mansions. She needed to confront her brothers before they confronted their parents, together.

This could well be their last meeting as a family. The family she had grown up with. The family that she knew forever.
