Chapter 40 Things just got a lot more complicated

Lea's POV

I wanted to run into his arms. Break down, shed all those tears, let all my worries go but I found my legs stuck on the spot. I couldn't even move.

It wasn't any different for Jake.

It seemed like our breathing had become difficult. Luckily, Phill came along just then, swinging his car key. Jake's gaze immediately turned hostile but Phill ignored it.

" They are allowing only one visitor at a time. Isn't that right, Jake? We should be moving! ”

He ushered the two of us inside as I walked towards the ward, head hanging, heart heavy, as if it was a walk of shame.

They let me go first. My heart shattered all over again as I watched Aunt in that condition. Weak, frail, tubes and wires tangled all around her body, barely breathing, her eyes closed, hands over her chest.

I ran beside her, fell over her legs and started sobbing.

" I am so sorry, I felt . I didn't have a choice. I didn't want to leave you alone. It's just that... it's just that I am. pregnant, " I whispered.

I knew Aunt would understand. " It's Jake's! ” I smiled as I took her hand and placed it over my baby bump.

" Pray for my little one! I am so scared. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to tell him ... ”

And then the machines started beeping. A nurse immediately came running and took Aunt's hand away from mine.

" I would have to ask you to please step outside, ma'am. The patient is in critical condition. She needs to rest. Please! ”

She didn't need to plead. I understood. I kissed Aunt on her forehead and slowly dragged myself outside.

Before I could step outside, Jake pounced on me,grabbed my hand and dragged me away from there. He pinned me against the wall around the corner, his eyes reading me, devouring me, taking me in.

His eyes travelled all over me finally stopping when they reached my pregnant belly. He gently placed one hand over it. My heart stopped and then started drumming at 3X speed. The baby turned immediately sensing his touch. My eyes were burning so bad , I couldn't hold back crying.

" Lea, did you run away because you were pregnant? "

I found no words. My mouth went dry. His fingers were moving over my dress, his other hand over my neck, holding me in a chock hold, but his grip was gentle.

I could see the tenderness in his eyes slowly turning into madness. Too many over powering emotions, threatened to take him. His Adam's apple was straight in front of my eyes. He was gulping, repeatedly as it went up and down.

" Whose is it? " He finally managed to ask.

His question cut through me like a knife, but I couldn't blame him for his doubt. My silence, my actions,my inconsistency had created this mess. I took a deep breath, summoning the courage I needed but my brain failed to come up with a worthy explanation that would not sweep away all that I had worked for.How could I tell him there was no one in the whole universe, except him, who could ever touch me.

Suddenly, Phill appeared from behind, once again. I was a little relieved but then everything turned upside down.

Phill grabbed me by my waist, squeezed me, pulling me away from Jake. " It's mine! ”

I felt like someone dropped an atom bomb over me. Jake almost stumbled behind. My hands immediately reached out to hold him. But he ignored me.

I could see his eyes turn blood red as he glared at Phill for a few minutes. Then he slowly turned towards me, "Are you going to just stand there and not even try to deny it? ”

It felt like bones were turning into boulders, pulling me down and I wanted nothing more than for the earth to split open and jump inside to hide.

" Lea, answer me damn it! " Jake barked. He was mad. I had never seen him so angry in my entire life. But not a single word left my mouth.

" Behave yourself, Jake! Why would she deny something that is not fake. Please respect her boundaries. ” Phill turned towards me and then asked, " Lea, shall we go? ”

I couldn't even nod. I just blinked.

How could I leave Jake behind in this tempest. I could see him struggling to even stand.

" Alright, Lea! Let's get going. We will come again to visit another day! ”

And then Jake grabbed Phill's collar from the back. He smacked his face with warning. Blood trickled down from Phill's nose. He raised his hand to hit him back but I stepped in between.

" Phill, let's go! " I pushed Phill out of there. I couldn't bear to see my Jakey hurt anymore than he already was.

I could see Jake's hands fall limp by his side from the corner of my eyes. He gave up as he saw me leave with Phill.

My heart threatened to revolt as the gap between up increased with every step that I took. My tears fell as if it was only but natural. I didn't stop or let Phill stop till we reached his car.

I slumped in the seat, motionless as Phill closed the door behind me, coming inside from the other side.

" What the hell, Phill! ”

My voice was barely above a whisper but it was louder than a rumble.

Phill let go of his keys and turned his entire body around to look at me. " I thought you needed help. If you want to tell him about the baby, it's not that difficult, you see, Lea! I know you still have his number in your phone. Just call him and tell him. ”

I knew I was deafeated. I wanted to do that very bad. Heaven knows, I did. But all I could do was sob between my hands, my entire body shaking.
